The US subsidizes the world’s demand for military and protection as well as the world’s healthcare. There’s no excuse, we could have this world fully renewable if we had the will to do so.
Your take and my take are not mutually exclusive. I want to work at a worthwhile career, but I also want to work hard at activism and unionizing so that one day we can achieve better.
I find the first world problems in my life literally inescapable. I mean I am stuck being lonely and stressed because of political policies. More broadly though, Americans are bolstering the progressive leftism we will need to change our conditions, so in my lifetime these most immediate problems will be fixed. Is america bad? Yes, it is, and American’s are angry about it enough that we have prevented a lot of those shitty laws from getting passed and put into effect. We’ll be okay.
I think the glasses provide a place to rest the eyes in either looking at the rims or unfocusing the eyes looking at the lens. My prescription lenses for near-sightedness seem to help me focus my eyes better at all distances, even though the visual clarity improvement only occurs at a far distance.
While my gut reaction is “yeah, make them pay for this art and these articles they’re stealing to train the model” - I don’t think copyright is going to actually win the creators any money for their work this time.
I’d rather it remains a wild west. and copyright loses.
These issues are so big, therapy isn’t gonna be viable. Men have specific and painful societal issues. In the longterm, we need to change the way we socialize boys. The way we talk about expectations of their role, the way we talk about patriarchy and masculinity. There’s a lot of toxic masculinity, and far too little positive masculinity. Boys need far better role models than they currently have (youtubers? music artists - rappers? politicians?). Men of all ages need more third places to make friends, and date without apps that are frankly designed to make insecure men feel less valuable than women.
Would men be open to therapy? Maybe, but not all of them need it. Most men can point exactly towards what in society is peeving them. The system needs to change, rather than the individual.
