THE GREATEST ELIZABETHAN MYSTERY—who killed Amy Robsart, wife of the Queen’s favorite, Robert Dudley?—explored in this intriguingly framed novel that breathes new life into a much-told story. Richly envisioned. B PLUS

Regrettably, I Am About to Cause Trouble, by Aimee McNee

Interesting YA set against the backdrop of the Tudor Court. I had a hard time liking Maude for most of the book, but we obviously weren't supposed to. Yes, growth.

Themes are found family, loyalty, courtesy, and allowing people to be who they are.

LGBTQIA+ positive with hints of societal disapproval.
Race positive with racism in the text.

“Michael Dunn has created the characters that bring the 19th Century's Mine Wars to life for today's readers. Anywhere but Schuylkill will remind readers of John Sayles and Tillie Olsen and the best in the long tradition of labor literature.”

'A Volga Tale' by Guzel Yakhina is a richly imagined and beautifully written novel that tells of a people, of a little man in Big History, of relationships between fathers and children, of the love and dangers of language, and of a river that runs through it all.

ANYWHERE BUT SCHUYLKILL

This is a great labor novel, as good as any I have read. Given the current revival of pro-union sentiments, from Starbucks to Amazon to General Motors, I hope it will be widely read.

“In the tradition of Upton Sinclair and Jack London, Michael Dunn gives us a gritty portrait of working-class life and activism during one of the most violent eras in U.S. labor history. Anywhere but Schuylkill is a social novel built out of passion and the textures of historical research. It is both a tale of 1870s labor unrest and a tale for the inequalities and injustices of the twenty-first century.”

An instant international bestseller: a suspenseful, sweeping historical epic for readers of Natalie Haynes and Madeline Miller, which boldly reimagines the origin story of the woman who inspired one of Shakespeare’s most iconic characters, Lady Macbeth.

Hey there!

Figured I'd create a handy little video about some places to find indie novels for free.

If you know of any other places to support indie authors for free, please drop them in the comments!

#indieauthor #indiebooks #indiefantasy #selfpublished #webnovelist #writing #novel #writers #book #books #bookstodon #webnovel #fantasy #mystery #thriller #scifi #paranormal #historicalfiction #romance #YA #comedy #poetry #fiction #nonfiction #isekai #adult #xianxia #progressionfantasy #cultivation @bookstodon

The video begins on a graphic created using a picture of a black book on a red tablecloth. The picture has been edited to replace the cover of the book. The edited cover is an illustration of a landscape that is dark, a sprawling castle with a kingdom surrounding it, misty clouds twisting between structures. In the sky framing the tallest center spire is a vast circular halo made of glowing flame and light. The captions in these frames of the video read: "Places to find indie books for free!" The next frames include a real life video of mountains with a dark cloudy sky in the background, large pines and other trees in the foothills and midground, and a field of wheat with a rusted farm-grade rolling sprinkler in it on the foreground. The captions in this portion of the video read: "Webnovel! You can find novels, webcomics, and fanfic on this website. Isekai, LitRPG, Fantasy, SciFi, Comedy, Slice of Life, Fanfic, and Romance are just a few popular genres! Royal Road! This website is a great place to find novels and book series with asian and/or anime influences. Isekai, Xianxia, LitRPG, Progression Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, SciFi, and Comedy are just a few popular genres! Scribblehub! This website is also good for finding novels and book series with asian and/or anime influences. Isekai, Xianxia, LitRPG, Fantasy, SciFi, Comedy, Supernatural, Fanfic, and Adult are just a few popular genres!"

I've paused as I've decided it's too heady for my tired body, but damn am I engrossed in this as a vampire conceit. I even had some wine. Turns out, it's a family dramedy about the rich. I'm at the point where the Nun/accountant looks at the books. Might put on the new before my slumber. before they eat you. :ablobcatneon:

Written with kaleidoscopic verve and delirious wit, Brooklyn Crime Novel is a breathtaking tour de force by a writer at the top of his powers. Jonathan Lethem, “one of America’s greatest storytellers” (Washington Post), has crafted an epic interrogation of how we fashion stories to contain the uncontainable: our remorse at the world we’ve made.

One thing the "Empires of Bronze" series does really well is not glorify war. The gruesome, awful details are laid out to make it clear that war is not something noble. It also does a great job of humanizing both the Hittite and the Egyptian sides as being motivated by things we could conceivably agree with (namely, avenging a close one's death).

Seeing that other people have read something and also what they think about it will entice prospective readers. Interact with them and their social media posts! Share and comment on their posts, participate in Q&As, make fanart/fiction and post it with a tag, recommend them to other readers, and more! Indie authors rely heavily on their community, so the more you get the word out, the better!"
