As we all know there’s surge of LLM-powered comments, ranged from chatgpt-esque style to downright rude comments infesting reddit. It makes the place from unpleasant to extraunpleasant place. The problem I’m worried the most is if they’re starting to invade lemmy and friends. Any development to combat this? Like maybe akin...

Since lemmy.world is having trouble for the second time in three days, I decided to switch back over to my lemmy.ml account. Unfortunately I don’t have all of my communities back over here in my .ml account, and it took me over an hour to manually subscribe to the ones I had over on my .world account....

I feel like in a lot of ways, app.net was ahead of it’s time. It’s whole goal was to build a “social backbone”. A social account and network of linked users. On top of that backbone you could build out services, and all your friends were already there. In a lot of ways, it did what the fediverse is trying to do with...

Old habits die hard, but there’s Reddiquette which needs to be revived, and some which needs to die....

We have bookwyrm.social, which does an excellent job at replacing the need for goodreads (which is owned by Amazon). But is there an alternative to imdb.com?

How do you feel about meta hypothetically pressing the phase 2 button, which updates threads to have a reddit-like mode that federates and uses lemmy content as free seed content?...

With the vlemmy situation ongoing, i feel like it would be useful to put this here (i did not make either of these tools)...

The best part of the fediverse is that anyone can run their own server. The downside of this is that anyone can easily create hordes of fake accounts, as I will now demonstrate....

Additionally, In order to not overwhelm the largest Lemmy instances, I opted to register with a smaller one. Should I apply the same logic to mastodon.social and the other large instances?...

Hey, i’m a software developer and i’m considering trying to build a site using ActivityPub, but i have a few concerns about it. My first concern is that if the platform is open source someone can host a malicious version of it, where certain requests may be ignored (such as deletion)....

The issue with e-commerce is mostly the same as that of social media, there are only a couple of platforms hence they can dictate everything for the users. So do you think the fediverse could also benefit e-commerce or could there be something resembling the fediverse but for e-commerce?

Can someone help me with how peertube P2P works? I can understand how ActivityPub is used for all the "social" parts but I'm a bit confused about the actual video player....

For those who don’t know, a.gup.pe is an independent service that brings group behaviour (somewhat like communities here) to mastodon. It’s kinda nice and quite a few use it on mastodon....

I really want to nip threads in the bud. Besides blocking threads.net itself, defederate from any instances that do not. This is blatantly an EEE strategy and a united front is the only way to save what have been accomplished. Here is how Indivudals can do it on mastodont as an example to follow....

I don’t really have the money to do self hosting which otherwise, I would do it....
