Let’s say someone created a Wikipedia clone with Activitypub support, so you can freely read and edit articles on other servers. Basically the same way that Lemmy works. What would be a good name for such a project? Bonus points if the name goes with a cute animal mascot....
It doesnt have to be a federated “wikipedia” it can be a federated wiki. Look at the fandom controversy right now where a bunch of games are now moving to their own wikis. A federated wiki software would let all those game wiki host their own wikis but still contribute to eachother without making an account on each wiki.
I want to subscribe to the minecraft and the terraria wikis from my garrys mod wiki account to get notifications on new pages and i want to contribute to them without making an account on each. Federated wikis would be cool
Also i DEFINITELY want a full fledged wiki page available on lemmy so each community can have a wiki with multiple pages and nice linking and a WYSISWYG editor like wikipedia

What phone do you hve? What computer? What shoes? What milk do you buy? Ads dont work by showing up and making you go buy it like a drone. You see the ads a thousand times and then you start believing its better than other products
If someone calls you and theres a missed call notification can they just click it to call back without unlocking the phone?
Oh i didnt notice they went through other apps. Maybe they were watching you and saw you input your pin and then stole it and checked your stuff to see if they can get something useful and then returned it?

Can someone test this extension i dont have android but curious to know if it works on mobile. It lets your see Lemmy comments on any website …mozilla.org/…/reddit-comments-for-youtube/
Doesnt seem to be active yet, looks like that feature is still closed beta.
I really hope they include an option to customize the For You feed. I don’t want pure recommendations I want a chronological feed with every 3rd post be a recommended one. I don’t understand how zero platforms/apps have a merged feed to have the best of both in one feed
Really glad they’re making an official app. Interested in seeing what the potential redesign will look like.
As weird as it might sound I want to join an instance thats focused on or only short form content. I love getting Blender tutorials on tiktok and them being straight to the point with no intro/outro, like and subscribe, memes, etc. Which youtubers use so videos can have midroll ads and longer watch times. Blender tutorials on TikTok are just a minute or two explaining the cool feature or trick in blender and its done and then a video reply to a comment asking to get more in depth about a specific node or segment.
This progress bar is on the bottom of join-lemmy.org Does it automatically update when people donate to either the Liberapay, Patreon, or Open Collective? Is this progress bar open source so lemmy servers can implement it to show their donation\costs amounts?
Thats awesome! it would be great if you could make a post about it so instance admins would be aware of it and know they can implement it on their homepage so users can ensure their instance is sustainably funded
This might be a limitation of Lemmy or voyager, but is there some option for me to “watch” or “subscribe” to a post and be notified of new comments?...
This is my most wanted feature but sadly it’s not a thing yet. Maybe until lemmy introduces it, apps can implement rss since rss works on threads out of the box iirc

Apple Music isnt much better and giving even more power to such a huge corporation sucks. Regardless though, there’s this thing thats been understood with services/products where most people don’t switch unless the competition is 10x better.

Updated the OP to include a description of the extension. I want to be able to browse Lemmy threads/comments on any YouTube video (ideally any website). The extension in the picture is called Reddit comments for youtube and it shows you the comments of threads that have the same link of the youtube video you’re on
When you’re on YouTube/piped it automatically embeds the comments under the description. I think it’s obvious why that’s better than manually searching all of lemmy for each thread that has the same link
Its not working on a project “for me” or “for nothing” its for the lemmy/fediverse community as a whole. Like every other lemmy open source extension, most clients, lemmy itself.
The developer said they don’t have much time so they’re not sure they can do it for now but they’ll try to when they have free time and that if anyone sends a PR they’ll merge it. github.com/Xyl-AU/…/2#issuecomment-1811783026

I hate that I always compare Lemmy to Reddit, but Reddit used to have (not sure if they still do) guidelines called “Reddiquette” that included guidelines about upvoting and downvoting. I don’t remember the specifics (and sending too much of my browser traffic to Reddit makes me feel dirty) but one of the guidelines was...
I doubt thats the only video. My entire feed is 80% videos about israel committing war crimes, history of palestine, how israel is funded by the US for its interests in the middle east and to build a canal to no longer rely on egypt
I know its not possible on Lemmy itself yet but it would be great to be able to subscribe to threads. Sometimes theres a thread im interested in keeping up with any new comments (like how we did on forums). So it would be great to be able to subscribe to a thread and get notifications on any new comments.
Still sucks you will need a phone number to use it though. Hopefully they adopt meshnet type technology similar to berty.tech so people can communicate even when the internet is shut off across all platforms with end to end encryption
This is definitely an issue with AI and is why it shouldn’t be used to replace people.
The real value of AI in my opinion is for a non coder like myself to be able to use it to quickly create a blender addon in python to help me do small things like delete keyframes on every other frame or add a button to the ui that automatically adds a shrinkwrap modifier to the object I have selected. Small things that are really convenient to have but not worth the effort of learning python and the blender codebase to do.
