rekabis, I think the better comparison would be the number of billionaires per capita. Say, per million people. Not that this isn’t a good infographic - keep the overall count. But include the per capita as a frequency-of-occurrence stat.
CPMSP,
Lemonyoda, I didnt knew this Graph but damn…
RememberTheApollo_, And this is why you could tax them at 80 or even 90% and they would still have more money than 90% of the rest of the population of earth.
Blaubarschmann, Is this based on nationality (defined as: has that nations passport) or billionaires actually living in that country? Because probably many billionaires don’t live in their home country or pay taxes there
lou_profile, Portugal’s only billionaire might be Abramovich, who gained PT nationality through a very dubious program
nodimetotie, Am I the only one who finds the color scheme unintuitive? (a comment more suitable for DataIsBeautiful, probably)
corship, It’s a barrier free color scheme. I like it tbh
nodimetotie, Sorry, what is “barrier free”?
Don_alForno, No barriers for handicapped people. In this case it means that people who can’t tell e.g. red from green can still see the differences in this scheme.
wldmr, It’s a false friend/too literal translation from the German term “barrierefrei”. The more common word in English would be “accessible”.
nodimetotie, Got it, thanks!
AI_toothbrush, Surprising that monaco “only” has 3 billionaires.
Imgonnatrythis, Ehh, those are just the ones being honest on their taxes.
AI_toothbrush, Pretty sure honest monegasques still dont pay taxes because of the laws there. Stopped there once on a trip to spain and the place gives off a strange ass vibe. Also most monegasques are just normal people(people who actually help society unlike billionaire royals) with normal jobs that were born in a strange place.
vsh, Greece is an interesting one. Are they self-made greek billionaires or are they immigrants?
barsoap, Shipping tycoons I think. Dunno how they got their wealth but Greece was a fascist dictatorship for quite a while so it stands to reason.
Sterile_Technique, Trickle down economics works like a piñata. Once you break it open with blunt force, the stuff you want starts to trickle down!
tdawg, blood?
Sterile_Technique, blood.
captainlezbian, It’s important to remember that while all billionaires are bastards, some are just evil because they take value they neither earned nor need, meanwhile others got rich off being the family whose spat between cousins was WWI and are actively working to undermine left wing and pro equality movements literally today including conspiring to push bigotry towards lgbt people to distract from the class war
Vinny_93, Another reason why Portugal is doing it right
pgp, Not really, we might have only one billionaire, but all the millionaires are very greedy, as well as the upper clear as a whole. Combining that greed with the sky rocketing cost of living, mainly due to digital nomads and airbnb, we’re certainly not an example. Just a collapse waiting to happen.
Rocha, Having almost no billionaires doesn’t mean we have any less wealth inequality than the other countries.
We’re just poor af as a whole.
MrMakabar, We need an EU wide 100% wealth tay for any wealth over say 15million€. I am willing to negotiate about the second number.
xigoi, So anyone who gets a certain amount of money might as well close all the companies they own?
Kiliyukuxima, Or give them to the employees or something. Probably 15M is a too low threshold to enforce that but it would work. It would basically distribute the wealth amongst the people who produce it
storcholus, Maybe not 15 million, but let’s say at 100 million you get a dog park named after you with a statue that says you won at capitalism
ohlaph, Tay them all!
Kornblumenratte, What do you mean by wealth?
Frittiert, These are eatable numbers
botorfj, didn’t know we had so many billionaires!
Acters, How the fuck is there so many and can we eat some?
Sterile_Technique, can we eat some
You can try to eat just some, but you’ll likely find that once they start to pop, you just can’t stop.
HenriVolney, One could title this map “number of potentially exceptional net contributors the their country’s finances”
Philolurker, That’s a very elaborate way to spell “leeches”.
MrMakabar, I believe that was a way of wanting a near 100% wealth tax for them, to help finance some usefull stuff.
JohnSwanFromTheLough,
Marsupial, You can’t be a fucking contributor by stealing the value of work done by those in your employ.
HenriVolney, One can be made a net contributor by some well adjusted money squeeze 😉
