Your reality, sir, is lies and balderdash… and I’m delighted to say that I have no grasp of it whatsoever!

Groan.

The Second Doctor’s sonic screwdriver… removed screws and put them back. Sonically. Couldn’t we please just go back to that?

Try Remotely Save plug-in.

github.com/remotely-save/remotely-save

It syncs with Dropbox, Onedrive, S3 and WebDav. It has lots of settings like folders you can ignore, filetypes, etc. A number of experimental fearures that have worked when I tried them. You can set it to manually or automatically sync.

I’ve used it for my main vault using a self-hosted WebDav for over a year and been pleased with its performance. I make sure I keep a regular backup of the vault as well just in case.

I would imagine you could use the Excalidraw plugin as well for making handwritten notes and diagrams, too.

I had trouble for a period with my vaults syncing on icloud. It was really frustrating so I looked at other sync methods. (I think it was actually the amount of plugins I was using.) icloud did start working again with my smaller vaults. Now I keep my main vault synced by WebDav on my NAS with a daily backup by the NAS & my little vaults on icloud. Has been working really well.

Didn’t the OP say they wanted to sync across two different devices (and I assumed they couldn’t simply sunc using a shared storage.)

Kev F Sutherland Asks British Kids What Comics They Actually Read (bleedingcool.com)

Comic fans might be interested to know what I’m finding kids to be enthusing about these days. I’ve just been doing a few weeks of summer classes, which have a higher proportion of comics enthusiasts, in comparison to my usual classes in schools. So, here’s what seems to be hot and not:...

tenebrisnox,
@tenebrisnox@feddit.uk avatar

2000AD – Heat death of the universe. No child has ever mentioned 2000AD.

Ha. Not surprised. 2000AD grew up with its first generation of readers and isn’t accessible to kids at all. I’d love to know the sales figues for the ever-increasing kid-friendly “regened” (?) issues and whether anyone except the usual adult readers buy it.

Manga surprises me in terms of its continued appeal to kids. My own kids find anything Japanese “cool” and places like HMV are stuffed full of products based on anime and manga (as well as those hideous plushies!). Brian Hibbs on CBR did an exhaustive look at book sales in US and it seemed to suggest that - unlike US superheroe stuff - anime drives the sales of manga.

Doctor Who – Cold. It’s a rare child, always a geek, who has any interest in this particular franchise.

It’s not really been on the tv for years and doesn’t seem pitched at a modern kids audience. (As a Doctor Who fan from childhood in the 1970s and 1980s, I’m not really sure WHO the new Who is aimed at.) I also wonder if it’s always been the odd geeky kid into the show. I recently read a book about ASD in children where an interest in Doctor Who was given as an indicator of being ASD.

I was desperate to get my sons into The Phoenix and we subscribed for 2 years until they just piled up. One of them did like Mega Robo Bros and bought a couple of the collections.

All my attempts to indoctrinate my kids into comics have always crashed to earth in a flaming failure. YouTube seems to have them in its thrall.

Very interesting. I wonder to what extend fans’ ages alter the ratings?

In Doctor Who fandom, whenever the question “Who is your favourite Doctor?” pops up, the majority tend to say the current one. It also seems to be that this is responded to by younger fans/audiences. I wonder if it’s the same with Trek. Because of my age, I’ll ALWAYS prefer classic DW to recent stuff. There’s an element of nostalgia.

My first Trek was TOS and it’s what I think of AS Trek primarily. I wasn’t into TNG at all (because of my age and I’d moved away from stuff like this for a time). DS9 and, particularly, Voyager would rate mire highly as they were on when I was watching TV in the late 90s. I like SNW because it echoes TOS. While I’ll watch other Trek, it doesn’t have the same impact on me.

I remember that a former Labour leader warned this would happen and was roundly ridiculed in the media. Funny how lots of the things he warned about have come to pass.

tenebrisnox,
@tenebrisnox@feddit.uk avatar

I agree. It was something for nostalgic long-term fans.

I just wish that Warner would try out some different animation styles. I REALLY dislike how cheap this and the DC animated movies look.

Is there any chance that Amazon could quietly remove this show and pretend it didn’t exist? I feel it was all some terrible dream.

tenebrisnox,

You are right about this and it’s something I’d not given any thought to. Checking out your recommendations. Thank you.

It’s the word “benefit” that needs to be fought against. It’s “social security” a means of supporting us all when we are vulnerable and need help, not something extra that can be dispensed with.

Take a look at OpenAudible.

I tried all sorts of stuff before getting OpenAudible and it works brilliantly. It costs about $20 (and there’s an upgrade about every year costing $8) but I’ve not upgraded and it still works perfectly.

Mostly on a basic kindle. I read pdfs and comic books on an ipad.

I’m waiting for a decent colour eink reader about same size as my kindle with stylus/writing support. From what I can see, they are nearly there… but not quite.

2nd vote for Obsidian.

I’ve moved from OneNote and Evernote about two years ago to Obsidian. I tried out (and still do look at) all the note-keeping apps and Obsidian beats hands down. For me, the major determiner was that it saves to plain text files that I can just transfer into any future app easily. The other aspect is that plug-ins enable you to tailor how Obsidian functions to your own working processes.

I’ve found keeping Obsidian in sync over iCloud pretty good as long as you keep the number of plug-ins on phone and iPad limited.

tenebrisnox,
@tenebrisnox@feddit.uk avatar

Have you tried Remote Save plugin?

I use it to sync from a webdav on my NAS at home to work computer if I ever need it. It also syncs from services like OneDrive, Dropbox, S3 etc.

There are other versions of similar syncing.

tenebrisnox,
@tenebrisnox@feddit.uk avatar

It just stores them to the folder you choose as a vault for your notes. I have seen people put their vaults on a USB stick which they encrypt for security.

No web version of Obsidian as far as I know. Have you tried SimpleNote?

What’s PurelyMail like? They seem very cheap.

tenebrisnox,
@tenebrisnox@feddit.uk avatar

Thanks. I’ll take a look. I’ve wanted to move away from gmail for a while now and this is cheap enough to try out.

That data was really interesting and does seem to show that wealth is being progressively transferred upwards after WW2.

I read somewhere recently that since 1945 $50 trillion had been earned by top 1% while wages have remained relatively flat for working people.

I’ve seen it. I wish I hadn’t.

It’s REALLY dull.

Help with styling (lemmy.world)

I seem to have done something that is preventing the sidebars from following any themes I’m using (Nord in this pic.) After going through every setting I can think of, I’m hoping someone here can help point me in the right direction to get these sidebars “unstuck” from being a black back ground.

tenebrisnox,
@tenebrisnox@feddit.uk avatar

Do you have any css snippets active?

tenebrisnox,
@tenebrisnox@feddit.uk avatar

I use mac, too, but haven’t encountered this. You’ve done all the usual haven’t you: checked Obsidian is latest release, installed another theme? Reinstalled Obsidian?

I’ve had issues with themes but found they tend to be theme-specific. Minimal is always a goid one to try (again, young probably done this).

I use an iphone and ipad and have shortcuts that paste images of scans into my daily notes and other places. I actually use Scanner Pro app which produces a pretty good image. I use exercise books (A5-ish size) as I found the slighly smaller pages more useful. The ios shortcuts are super-simple to make.

I do have a Rocketbook and used to use it a few years ago when I had my notes stored in Evernote. Rocketbook is a great idea but I never got used to the plastic, textureless feel of the pages.

What I don’t do is any form of OCR on my handwritten notes though.

@tenebrisnox@feddit.uk avatar

This looks great. I’ll have a go and let you know how it goes.

Fantastic. I’m deleting my Reddit account today after 12 years - so will appreciate Banks discussion over here.
