My first Star Trek game was actually Star Trek Online, but I’ll probably always have a soft spot for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - Crossroads of Time for the SNES.
I’m definitely happy to see Resurgence coming to Steam though, I don’t buy from anyone except for them and GOG.
Great news! I will admit to having too many Eaglemoss ships, but I’m hoping Fanhome makes some great looking ships too. It never hurts to have a few more!
I’ve made it until the end of S2, and that’s taken me several years. I decide that it’s just not the show for me and stop watching, but every now and then I forget that and try another episode! Then the cycle repeats.
I do like some aspects of it, including the ship itself. I don’t like the rotating saucer though.
Well I’m just about fed up with streaming bullshit. I currently have a home server that’s just a raspberry pi4 with a bunch of docker containers and it served my light usage well....
This would be my recommendation as well. Either a shuckable external drive or a standard 3.5" drive with a USB 3.0 enclosure so you have the option to slot the drives into a NAS or server in the future.
I can’t pick just one! The first one is probably my favorite if I must choose though.
The way I see it every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice-versa, the bad things don’t necessarily spoil the good things or make them unimportant.
There’s no point in being grown up if you can’t be childish sometimes.
You know, the very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common: they don’t alter their views to fit the facts; they alter the facts to fit their views.
Courage isn’t just a matter of not being frightened, you know. It’s being afraid and doing what you have to do anyway.
I definitely remember recognizing Frakes, Dorn, and de Lancie while playing through the War of the Chosen expansion for XCOM2. Also René Auberjonois on a few of the Uncharted games as well.
Yes, it certainly was! For some reason I didn’t recognize their voices. It wasn’t until I looked up the voice cast list to check the three that I mentioned that I found they were on it too!
Not exactly hidden gems, but I finally bought Stray. Also decided to pick up Xenonauts. I can’t decide whether I should grab Phoenix Point though. I keep eyeing up Terra Invicta too, but I’m almost positive it’s going to be a bit too much micromanagement for me to enjoy it.
I’m glad I’m here, you learn something new every day! The next thing you’ll be telling me is that he also gave Rodenberry the idea for the series, therefore guaranteeing himself a role for 7 years.
That’ll be exciting! We’ll all have to put our heads together and give him a list of episodes to adjust a bit, and maybe we’ll have five or six seasons of TOS.
I’m in the market for a Linux friendly ultralight laptop to check web apps and run terminal, nothing fancier then that. Do any cheap systems exits these days? I was looking at a chrome book but apparently the mediatek chip doesn’t play nicely with FOSS....
What price bracket are you looking at? The two laptops that I normally use in that situation is a used Thinkpad X1 Carbon I got on eBay, and a HP Dev One that works pretty well for that.
The Thinkpad link that was shared below looks pretty nice, they tend to be fairly cheap and easy to get replacement batteries and parts. There’s a lot available in that $150 to $200 bracket on eBay. Edit: I just saw it’s 14", so a bit bigger than what you wanted. You can filter by screen size and price on eBay to give you an idea of what you can get. You may need a new battery depending on the age, so keep that in mind.
I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one that’s less likely to click on articles like that! If they’re not going to give me an idea of what I’m clicking on, I generally don’t read it. It’s usually possible to find a few websites that have informative headlines.
According to what I’ve seen, they’re hoping to add more tour dates. Whether that will be in 2024 or 2025 remains to be seen, I don’t know how far out that type of thing needs to be scheduled with venues.
You’re doing better than me! I’ve not seen anything this year that I even remotely thought about purchasing. I’m glad that some people are enjoying this year’s releases though. It’s always interesting to me that writers assume that almost everyone automatically loves every hyped game.
Something like Baldur’s Gate 3 could be an enjoyable game for me, but unfortunately the world didn’t click. A friend is really into it and let me play for a while, and it just didn’t feel like a good fit. I ran into the same problem with both of the Divinity Original Sin games. I’ve never been a big fan of most fantasy settings for some reason, although I do enjoy some of them. Dread Delusion, Shadow Gambit and Wargroove 2 could fall into the same category, although I would have to watch some gameplay first. Some of the advance information on Starfield looked interesting at first, but gameplay footage I’ve watched hasn’t made me want to buy it. I would be more excited if things would be a bit more seamless. I got Cyberpunk on sale a while back and put about 10 hours into it before I quit. I can’t really put my finger on what it was, but I just wasn’t enjoying it. I haven’t played it since that point, so it may have changed for the better. I already have the Metal Gear Collection with MGS4 for PS3, so the PC port won’t be anything I’ll pick up until it goes on sale.
The two older games from Mimimi both look interesting. In fact, I did purchase Desperados III on a sale, I’ve just never downloaded it yet to play between XCOM runs!
I either never saw or overlooked Starsector, so I will have to look into that one a bit. Endless Sky is top down, so it sounds somewhat similar!
I’ll look into the Wasteland games and see what I think, might be something I’ll enjoy. I have heard some good things about the 2.0? update for Cyberpunk, so I should probably start a new save and give it another chance. I enjoy some of the cyberpunk aesthetic, so that helps.
Interesting point on the fantasy classes, I hadn’t thought of it that way previously. I’ve never been able to figure out what fantasy elements don’t work for me, because it doesn’t seem to follow any particular logic! I may give BG3 a shot if it comes up on sale at some point, it might just be a slow build and I might just need a bit more time playing for me to enjoy it.
I’m hoping to eventually find something that checks all the right boxes! In the meantime, I still find a few that I really like here and there, and old favorites are always fun!
I’ve definitely seen Satisfactory before, I’ve just never bought it. It looked like it could be interesting, I’ll have to look into it a bit more. Jusant I hadn’t heard of, but I’ll check it out. Thanks!
Squadron 42 is the single player campaign of Star Citizen, that is supposed to launch as a separate game. It's basically a small portion of Star Citizen, but with a story and ending. I'm still not confident; waited too long for that.
The Javelin is the most expensive ship you can actually buy, at $3,000. It’s still a crazy amount of money though! But if people want to pay it, more power to them. It allows me to enjoy the game with my $70 starter pack!
While you technically have to spend $25,000 to get the 600i Executive Edition, is actually a perk you get once you’ve spent that much on the game itself.
I used Ubuntu once a few years ago but had compatability issues so I went back to windows. Not a great programmer but I’d like to learn. I’m not looking to do much gaming beyond DOOM2 and factorio. Mostly looking for privacy and a way to get back into programming (I have this pipe dream of learning Assembly). I’m not to...
SteamOS is Arch with Steam components on top, so I would hope they support other distros! :-) It works great for me on Fedora as well.
Depending on their previous experience, a new user may be overwhelmed with any extra configuration involved in getting their computer running. In those cases a Debian/Ubuntu based distribution such as Mint or Pop is a stable foundation to learn what they want out of their system.
A similar question was raised some day’s ago from a other person, but with different background. In this case, I would like to buy a nice gaming laptop. Of course I would use it for office and coding to, but primary I’m searching recommendations for gaming. I would like to play Wine/Proton game’s and also native Linux...
System76 has laptops with Linux preinstalled, so they may be a good option to check. system76.com/laptops-powerfulI have not personally owned one yet, but I’ve heard some good things about them. Other people may have more input though.
Good to know. Which model do you have? I’ve been eyeing up something along the lines of the Pangolin when I next upgrade. I’ve been a fan of Pop for some time, and I’m currently running it on my three main computers. It’s great on my Dev One and I’ve also got it on an older Alienware laptop. Their customer support is pretty good, I contacted them about information on a keyboard a while back and it seemed they knew what they were doing.
It does seem they lean pretty hard into the Intel/Nvidia combo, hopefully that will change in the future. I do appreciate the option of prepackaged Nvidia drivers for Pop though. Makes running my old laptop so easy!
Strange New Worlds has been my favorite Trek since Next Generation, and if the quality continues, could easily be my favorite Trek ever. But with the e.p. wishing for more episodes per season, there’s a danger of diluting the show by adding weak episodes that would have never made it in a 10 episode season....
I would be very happy to see 15 episodes a year, I think their current cast is great. They’ve expanded the story of some of the characters in season 2, but I feel they could easily add a few more spotlight episodes a year.
I worked hard at imitating the Leonard Nimoy Spock’s raised eyebrow for quite a while. I don’t regret the time spent practicing that in front of a mirror. I never mastered a fully raised eyebrow, but I can do a slight eyebrow raise....
I tend to do the Spock eyebrow raise quite a bit without thinking about it, to the point that people I know will ask if it’s on purpose.
I also will use “fascinating” and I tend to insert logical or illogical into sentences.
Worf’s “It is not funny, but I get it” is something I throw in as well.
If I’m in “Star Trek Mode” I’ll use various Klingon phrases, along with the Vulcan salute as greeting. My wife and I will at times text in Klingon. There’s other stuff as well, but not as common!
That’s great! I didn’t realize how common my eyebrow raise was until someone asked if I was copying Spock. My wife is still convinced I practice and do it on purpose though.
It’ll be interesting to see how much these will cost. Most likely way out of my bracket! I prefer having things spread onto slightly smaller drives due to the transfer speeds though.
If I’m not using the package manager, I use mostly Flatpak. I will use a random AppImage here and there.
I prefer those two because I can pick when I update them, and I’ve not had a lot of issues so far. I don’t like Snap because it reminds me too much of Windows Update. I know it can all be adjusted to my taste, but I already have an option that works out of the box.
Just interested if there’s an episode of a particular series you find yourself going back to? Not necessarily “the best” or your favorite, just one you gravitate toward for a comfort re-watch? Here’s the episodes from each series I find myself re-watching a lot:...
That’s a tough one! Off the top of my head, I’d say the following:
TOS: The Doomsday Machine
TNG: The Offspring
DS9: Duet - Probably my favorite episode of any ST series.
LD: First First Contact
SNW: Memento Mori - I’ve only seen S1, hoping to watch S2 soon.
I’ve not watched much of TAS, VOY, ENT and PRO, so I didn’t mark them down.
DIS: ??? - I’ve seen up to S3 so far, but no particular episode that really sticks out unfortunately. Probably something in S2.
PIC: ??? - I’ve only watched S1, unfortunately no favorites.
I’ve got a lot of favorites, but these are the ones I probably most enjoy. It can change depending on the day though! There’s been a lot of really good episodes through the years.

Looking for a good, studio quality microphone that just works on Linux. Also wondering what software or hardware people are using for enhancing your voice.
I’m just curious, what type of issues are you running into with it? I purchased one a short time ago for recording guitar practice sessions for future reference. I haven’t used it an enormous amount yet, and I’d like to prepare myself if there’s use cases that don’t work on Linux.
I’m running Ubuntu Studio, and using a microphone or DI depending on the situation.
