senkora,

Coffee crisps and ketchup chips are the two things I always buy when I’m in Canada. I wish we had them in the States.

senkora,

My favorite has always been crunch bars. So good.

senkora,

Alcohol has different effects on people based on their genetics. It makes some people feel amazing, and if they keep drinking they continue to feel amazing for hours. It makes some people immediately feel awful. It makes some people feel good but also very sleepy. The first group is much more likely to experience alcoholism.

The taste is a separate thing. I am part of the third group but I’ll have a single drink on occasion, and I enjoy the way that beer, wine, spirits, and cocktails taste. I think that the alcohol does make them taste a little better, but they also tend to taste good without it.

I often drink non-alcoholic beers or mocktails for the taste, because alcohol is after all a poison and it is a good idea to limit consumption.

senkora,

I think that’s normal as well. What I meant to convey is: if someone is an alcoholic, then they are likely to be in the first group. I didn’t mean to imply the opposite: if someone is in the first group, then they are likely to be an alcoholic.

senkora,

I was surprised to find that non-alcoholic beers specifically do still make me sleepy. I looked into it and there is some research that says that other compounds in beer could be responsible, or it could just be the placebo effect since I’m used to feeling sleepy after drinking beer.

senkora,

I never quite got over how the Aiel look Irish, have fantasy-Arab/Berber culture, and eat Native American food. And I read the entire series!

senkora,

I have a theory that people seek what they’re missing in their lives through their hobbies.

Specifically, in my own life I’ve noticed that the times I’ve gone deep into rich, complicated, and demanding hobbies, are the times when I’ve felt understimulated at school or work.

Conversely, at times when I’ve felt overstimulated at school or work I only want to watch TV or play simple party games to unwind or destress.

I am curious if other people feel this way.

senkora,

I can’t even think of a sadder drink than that.

Has anyone ever tried mulled coffee? (www.olympiacoffee.com)

I know that it’s the middle of summer (northern hemisphere). I know that even the thought of adding fruit juice and mulling spices to coffee is probably horrifying. I do not expect it to taste good. And yet, I had a thought about it and found that it seems to be a thing and so… has anyone tried it?...

senkora,

Oooh, definitely going to try this one.

senkora,

Made in Abyss season one has that one scene where the main, underaged character is suspended naked in public as a punishment. I’ve heard that there are a few other questionable moments in the manga.

senkora,

The inverse square law only applies to undirected things, because the surface area of a sphere is proportional to the square of radius. The parent specified directed, like a laser.

senkora,

I felt the same way about running until I started getting into triathlons. Watch out for that trap; races are at least $200 each, and road bikes ain’t cheap!

How quick are you to understand new game instructions?

I swear I’m smart and have pretty ok reading comprehension…but when I pick up a new game I have the hardest time understanding the rules and mechanics by just reading the instructions. Watching videos is helpful but I still really only pick it up while playing the game and going through the motions....

senkora,

What I do nowadays when I want to introduce a new game, is 1) watch a tutorial video when I’m alone, 2) watch the tutorial video again while still alone, and then 3) watch the tutorial video a third time with the group.

I find that I usually mostly understand the rules at that point. No one else does, since it is still really hard even with the video and they’ve only seen it once, but they at least know basically what the game is and I jump in to help everyone through their first few turns.

(I am a native English speaker with excellent reading comprehension skills, and even so, it’s just a lot to take in all at once)

senkora,

I like Sushi Go (specifically Sushi Go Party for variety), Hanabi, and King of Tokyo.

senkora,

So what you’re saying is, it is true that I will no longer have French installed.

senkora,

If Beehaw were to remove federation, then it would no longer be part of the Fediverse. I would be sad to see it go, but I am only interested in the Fediverse.

senkora,

I’m not yet that guy who puts Tabasco on everything, but the future path is clear. I almost want to get one of those little Tabasco holsters to carry it around with me

senkora,

Does Nix have Guix-style grafts? I know that in theory that is how Guix lessens the minor-update-to-core dependency problem. But I only use Guix for dev environments so I don’t know how well it works in practice.

senkora,

If it were legal, some lawyers probably would accept your firstborn as payment.

senkora,

I could see the US Digital Service doing this. They’re pretty solid.

senkora,

I had no idea that a lake could even look like Saimaa.
