I’m a middle aged guy, who, a few years ago, was off handedly told by a dental hygienist while getting my teeth cleaned, that I was tongue tied. I’ve had a flap of skin under my tongue which holds it down, it isn’t severe, but it does restrict my tongues mobility. For instance, I can’t really stick my tongue out very far...
I felt bad about splurging on a brand new phone after only 4.5 years. But it was a treat to myself.
I had a Nexus 5 that was old enough for my friend to give me for free, and I used that until the battery just wouldn’t hold a charge longer than an hour idling.
The phone I replaced it with had specs that were ever so slightly lower than the Nexus 5.
It was a night and day difference when I replaced that phone with something actually good.
Do I use all the features? No. Should I have waited for a price drop? Probably. Do I regret it? Nah. Probably a once in a lifetime event for me, to allow myself to be excited for the launch of a new phone and to experience that much of a jump in quality.
I hope to get 7 years of life out of this phone even if it means getting the battery replaced (expensive…) and living without the top-of-the-line security updates (unfortunately).
I appreciate the comparison, but mobile devices go out of date far faster than desktop OS’s, at least in terms of security updates.
I’m still using Windows 10 and getting security updates for a few more years.
Coincidentally, security updates for my phone and my desktop OS will run out at the same time, despite my desktop OS coming out more than half a decade earlier than my phone.
This always puzzled me. Why don’t humans act much more aggressive or crazed like its often depicted with animals. Afaik there’s 2 types of rabies, “dumb” and “furious” so my question is more towards the 2nd type. For example, we never hear of rabies causing a human to accidentally bite another human so why is that?
You can be recorded. Your likeness can’t be shared without your permission. But if you aren’t the subject of the photo/video, then it should be fine to share. (Think of a tourist uploading a picture they took at a tourist attraction with a crowd in the background…they aren’t the focus of the picture, so it’s ok to share/publish)
The onus is not on the sharer to prove that they’ve obtained consent to share likenesses, for better or for worse. But if your likeness is being misused, there are usually avenues to get it removed.
As for your example, I’m betting they either tricked him into signing, or offered him a lower penalty if he provided consent.
Kind of a trend, the amount of youtubers who i had loved but their content became generic after gaining popularity is quite a bit, most drastic one being mrwhosetheboss, his uniqueness went down faster than MH27 MH17
Wow. Someone over there is defending him being a fan of the Proud Boys guy because he claims the Proud Boys aren’t a terrorist group (despite having been declared as such).
He says they’re “very extreme right at worst”, as if there’s some sort of sliding scale on the right wing that eventually gets to “extreme right”, “very extreme right”, “terrorist organization” just naturally…and he isn’t aware they crossed the line years ago.

Sometimes I play Sky Force Anniversary when I’m doing nothing. But, when I open the game in offline, it redirects my to Play Store and few seconds later it shows that I dont have any internet connection. Why can’t I play my offline game in offline?
Of course AI isn’t sentient/conscious, but it exhibits traits of high intelligence, even personality, and behaviours consistent with sentience, even if it’s merely simulated....
It refers to objects, they refers to sentience or the fact of “someone” being a conscious individual rather than just a “something”.
That’s not necessarily true. “They” also refers to objects.
“It” is the third-person singular pronoun that’s used when not talking about a person.
“They” is the third-person plural pronoun. It’s used for males, females, mixed gender groups, objects, and mixed object/human groups. Or really, “they” is the default (or only?) third-person plural pronoun.
Unless you were going for “they” as the gender neutral third-person singular pronoun.
I’d argue that “it” works better for the same reason that you’d usually use “it” to refer to a robot or a computer unless a gender is somehow assigned to it (e.g., through a voice).
Choosing “he” or “she” is hard and not really logical. “They” makes it sound plural, or trying to hard to “de-objectify it”. Kind of like someone refusing to use he or she to refer to someone who hasn’t explicitly expressed their pronouns, but is clearly and outwardly expressing their gender.
Yup, I’ve seen that stuff. It’d make me feel better if they were getting paid. It’s a nicer thought to me than them doing this crap because they’re truly that way.
