n0m4n, to news in New rule will cut federal money to college programs that leave grads with high debt, low pay

I have had a few acquaintances who have fallen for no accreditation, religious run schools of so-called “higher education”. They spend the tuition and received the loans, as if for an accredited school, but end up with a degree that barely qualifies them for writing a letter on an outdated Microsoft suite. Think of these institutions as having used Trump University as their business model. They are predator institutions that prey on the unsuspecting, using religious trappings to legitimize their lack of education offered. These are the places that most need to be taken off of the federal loan programs. As a caveat, I’ve been through college at an accredited two-year community college, then transferring to an accredited private school. I have been through the system, too, but at least have an education that I can use. The people end up with nothing.

n0m4n, to lemmyshitpost in Immune to marketing

Immune is overstating it, strongly resistant is more accurate. I hate labeled clothing, or team clothing. It irritates me when my car has a dealer label, and do not blow smoke about how cool I will look, with whatever or wearing whatever. If my vehicle moves from A to B, is reliable, safe, and doesn’t cost an unreasonable amount to operate, I am good. Does anyone else parse ads, to see their actual claims in neutral language? And filter out the puffery filler words?

Make it noise-cancelling, however, and I am very interested. NRR 33+ brings a smile to my face.

n0m4n, (edited ) to news in 'You were warned': Judge reprimands Trump's lawyers in New York AG's $250M fraud case

I too, am a master at finding value that others miss. I have a living, growing masterpiece of fungal art that I have spent years in creating. It is accruing value by the day and is currently in storage in a temperature controlled, refrigerated vault. For that connoisseur, this a truly one of a kind art, and beyond price, but if I have to put a number on it, it cannot possibly go to market less than a tree-fitty, two comma,USD amount. This is only one, of a full collection, BTW.

n0m4n, to news in Alabama band director tased by police for not stopping his students' performance

Many have commented on why police were there. In events that I have hosted in the past, security is demanded for safety reasons, AND often, it is spelled out that people trained in handling emergency situations (police) are required. It is in the contract, and if they are not there, you do not get the keys to open it.

The band director’s best response would have been to tell the police that he was responsible for the entire group of students and had the responsibility to get each and every single student safely home. If the police take control, they are taking that responsibility upon themselves. And remind them that that action would be without consent of the parents.

n0m4n, to news in Kim Davis must pay $100,000 to US same-sex couple she denied marriage license

Davis went far out of her way to screw over some people. Bigotry has costs.

n0m4n, (edited ) to mildlyinfuriating in How is woke a religion?

Some replace various religions with a worship of money. Usually they are better at managing it. How much has the ‘X’ formerly known as Twitter lost, btw?

n0m4n, to news in 'You're fine. You're vaccinated': Anti-vax Fox News host goes dead silent after co-host calls her out for vaccine status

Now, Fox is getting sued for propagating conspiracy theories for another $800M, J Pirro has moved to take the place of the last batch of hosts who were ousted.

This lawsuit is to recover losses caused to the owners (including pension funds of two states), of stocks caused by flagrant and repeated libel and lies, ruining Fox’s reputation. There are other lawsuits pending.

n0m4n, to news in Proud Boys leader predicts Trump will pardon him as he bemoans prison food

Do you have $2 million?

n0m4n, to news in Donald Trump vows to lock up political enemies if he returns to White House

They learned some of what didn’t work. That does not translate to being able to any better ability to lead a nation. Authoritarians always fail on the fatal flaw of believing their own BS, and sycophants reaffirming that delusion. Kings, Popes, Hitler, Putin, Dear Leader, and now Xi all were inflicted with that delusion.

n0m4n, to asklemmy in What are some conspiracy theories you absolutely believe to be true?

I suspect that Trump’s taking national classified documents included these documents. Trump classified these with the highest of secret classifications at the time to hide them, and he did not dare leave them for Biden to get his hands on.

If Biden’s administration could still could get these transcripts, they could have been redacted to take out the sensitive parts and been declassified. We are likely to not have all the secret documents that Trump took, still.

n0m4n, to asklemmy in What are some conspiracy theories you absolutely believe to be true?

I do not think that Putin would let Trump have that information. Trump would blab it, and Putin knows that he would.

Convincing Trump that America should realign with Russia to take down China (and Europe) a few notches is more likely. That was obvious when the Republican Party changed their platform concerning Russia back in the 2016 election. Putin still was being fed a bunch of BS by his intelligence agencies and thought that his little green men could again take over another small satellite country. If America had not started helping with training Ukrainians to defend their country, that would have been the outcome. Simply refusing to aid Ukraine would have been enough. Even our intelligence thought that Russia was a major military power at the time.

n0m4n, (edited ) to asklemmy in How often do you change your razor blade?

I use Dollar Shave Club with their 5-blade cartridge. My number of shaves depend on how well I prep my shave and the durability of that particular cartridge that time. The blue strip may be gone, but after soaking and my own razor lubricants, I can get three days, a week, or I can get as long as a month. My beard is coarse, but my hair is fine. I wash my blade carefully afterward and use 91% rubbing alcohol and hydrogen peroxide to sanitize the blade.

The five blade cartridge feels opulent, but I do push it. FWIW, I don’t get razor burns, ever. One nick, and it’s gone, even if it’s my fault for being careless.

n0m4n, to nostupidquestions in Where are you? Can you move?

I vary.

My oddest self is working. I operate a lot of automated machinery that are interactive, and many levels of recirculating materials. I have to zone in and become my machinery, feeling the vibrations, heat, smelling, and hearing the manufacturing processes and guiding the settings to keep as optimum as conditions allow. My day can turn very bad in minutes, it is that unforgiving of specs. I don’t like being too public in what I do on the internet, but there are only a few handfuls of who operate at my scale throughout the world/ per my employer.

I can only compare it to a race car driver, or aerialist flyer in the mind/machine joining of sense of space.
