I keep hearing on VPN ads that you have to use a VPN to not have your login information stolen. So far I have been using Cloudflare WARP to be safe enough. However, if I am using an HTTPS website, do I really need a VPN or WARP? Will an attacker on the same network as me be able to access passwords transmitted over HTTPS?
VPN is mainly good for bypassing region blocks (like Netflix) or as a tunnel through company firewalls. All other advertised use cases are either overstated or outright false.
I’ve programmed Python mostly without IDE without any problem. It’s no more difficult to understand the structure of the program than a bracketed language.
I kind of started with Python, and I hate Perl. Relying so much on global variables like $_, @_, $1, $2 is just the worst idea ever. Oh you want to call a function? Better be safe and backup all global variables you’re using, because they will be overwritten! Want to use some regex in a function? Better ensure all callers have made backups of the $1, $2, $3 variables.
The end result is just large amounts of defensive boilerplate everywhere because things will break if you don’t.
There’s also no good way to tell which functions use $_ without looking up the docs or keeping everything in memory.
The only merit Perl got in my opinion is its regex support. Quite handy for bash one liners time from time.
The worldwide Haskell community met up over beers today to celebrate their unprecedented discovery of an industry programmer who gives a shit about Haskell....
It’s a cool language. Main problem is that it’s difficult to recruit for. Not many developers know Haskell well enough.
Haskell also makes many huge sacrifices for purity. Accessing the file system is quite wonky. Basic stuff like maps aren’t easy to implement either. In the end, it’s a language great for toy examples, but turns into a massive hassle once you want to do real practical stuff.
I think everybody should at least learn it. You’ll learn some cool stuff that will be of use in other languages.
I don’t think the algorithm is the problem. The problem is that sites started to capitalize on your attention. Everybody wants your sweet little attention so they can earn money from it. Internet also moved into walled gardens of money making machines (like Instagram, YouTube and TikTok).
It doesn’t matter which algorithm is used. Somebody will crack it and abuse it for their own good.
That’s easily abused. Search engines before Google were pure keyword search, but those were quickly abused. People just made websites with all types of keywords just to get on top of search results. Google’s PageRank fixed this - temporarily. People were quick to abuse it too.
It doesn’t matter what you try to do. Somebody will figure out how to abuse it.
I tried DDG many times for work. Often I don’t find the result I want at all. I try different queries and all, but I only find barely relevant shit. I switch to Google, and immediately the top result is exactly what I want.
It used to be that you would do a search on a relevant subject and get blog posts, forums posts, and maybe a couple of relevant companies offering the product or service. (And if you wanted more information on said company you could give them a call and actually talk to a real person about said service) You could even trust...
The problem with search engines isn’t the search engines themselves. The problem is that sites game the system. Everybody want to be at the top of the search results, so they do whatever it takes to get there.
You can start a brand new search engine, but if it get popular enough it will also be gamed to the point it’s useless again.

The Three Body Problem trilogy, especially the first two books.
Trying to avoid too many spoilers, the first book is about a Chinese scientist investigating a mysterious threat. It’s not too heavy on world building, and it’s set on present day earth.
Second book, The Dark Forest, is about how this impossible threat is dealt with, and I think it’s one of the most fascinating things I’ve read.
I think the third book, Death’s End, went overboard quite a bit, but it’s still a good one.
Data Scientists and AI engineers. Python has really good libraries for machine learning and other numerically intensive applications. Try launch deep learning models on your GPU with only shell scripting.
I think this kind of content warnings kind of makes sense for children’s television. But these are games primarily targeted towards adults. We’re able to form our own opinion.
I’m a bit concerned about the combat. Looks like they’re going for more spectacle over substance. He’s doing all the cool moves, but the enemies barely react from any of them. It doesn’t feel like every hit matters.
They might have tried to do other stuff, but struggle to find the motivation. Like, you might try to pick up drawing, but all you do is to stare at a blank canvas. Maybe scribble a little bit and then you go back to bed.
There’s not even motivation for the bare minimum, like scrolling meaningless stuff.
Could’ve been made a fun joke if it was delivered with a proper setup and punchline. This is just an amusing observation without any interesting delivery.
Not sure the intention of emphasizing the words “used” and “these”. Doesn’t make the comic funnier the slightest.

And how do you verify that the NFT can be trusted? With any of the 3 methods you mentioned!
Blockchain doesn’t circumvent this need of trust.
The thing blockchain eliminates is the need of a timestamp authority when doing transactions. Satoshi even called his invention “distributed timestamp server” before people started to call it blockchain. You don’t need timestamps when verifying the authenticity of an NFT.
I could just use 10 different URLs for each NFT. All pointing to the same image. I can also use 10 different wallets to obfuscate it more. For that matter, I can use different blockchains as well.
Now it’s 10 completely different NFTs pointing to the same image. To verify there are no duplicates, you need to check every NFT in existence (across all blockchains in existence).
Am I okay without a VPN on public networks if I use HTTPS?
