Not my favorite Seven episode. I like when she's being exceptional, and she wasn't that in this one. I do like the concept of downloading data while I sleep though. That would make life much easier. I might be able to figure out why samba's being an asshole on my work computer, and providing incomplete access to the server.

We'll see... Can't say I'm stoked, but maybe it'll be better than I anticipate. I'm not really a fan of musicals in the first place. I could count the ones I find 'acceptable' on one hand, and can only think of two atm. If it turns out merely 'acceptable' I'll be happy enough. Hopefully the actors had fun.

I think everyone was still scared of the transporter at that point, and only used it for cargo. Transporting humans was off label use. I think they started getting more comfortable with it at the end of the series, possibly from an emergency procedure they tried, but the detail are eluding me.

I have zero complaints about SNW. I might rewrite some of it, and I also might screw them up by doing so. All I'm looking for is a good story with characters I like, and nitpicks aside, SNW is knocking it out of the park.

Star Trek’s level of medical care is far more advanced than today’s. As Beckett says in LD, “Doc will wave a light over it.” Yet, in Star Trek people aren’t shown doing hobbies and pastimes that are much different from what’s done now. @Nmyownworld Nothing I can think of. My hobby(arboriculture) is pretty dangerous. I just do my best to minimize risks.

A holodeck would be a game changer though. While perhaps not truly dangerous with safeties on, doing Worf's calisthenics program, or recreating historic battles where you meet on a field with sword and shield would be hugely fun and intimidating, even with the safety factor.

Fan Made Shows/Movies?

Any particular shows people here like watching? I've seen Renegades and a few others. I'm currently in the middle of Phase II. The special effects impress me for the budgets involved, and the writing/acting makes me appreciate the professionals more :^P I don't want to shit on any of them though. The effort is solid, and they're still an enjoyable watch.

One thing I really notice is timing in the dialog. It's one of those 'I know it when I see it' things. I couldn't do any better if I were producing it, but I can see a clear difference between amateur and professional shows. It's hard to exactly put my finger on it, but they'll hold onto a shot, the dialog will lag by a little bit, and it doesn't land as well as it could.

It has a weird hazy soft focus film style that I suspect is to make effects/backgrounds easier to produce. There was also a couple times I was confused, but it was a decent story and an enjoyable watch.

I know what you mean. I think I could work with that though. It gives it a more true life representation of people doing their thing. When combined with the other "errors" though; it makes it harder... or something. Probably best to adjust expectations, and enjoy them for what they are. Homemade Trek is better than no Trek, so it's something new when nothing else is on

I finished Phase II New Voyages... I guess... There was one episode left, and apparently they got the smackdown from CBS, and it was never released. It was getting good too. Everything was tightening up, and they were finding their footing, per Star Trek tradition. It's a perversion of copyright law. Copyright is to ensure works get produced. A monopoly isn't the end goal. Not like these shows are real competition. If anything, they bolster the franchise.

No problem starting with s03. There's very little continuity between seasons, and the parts that call back to earlier seasons are fleeting and non crucial. Each season can be watched out of order, but within seasons, they need to be watched serially.

FTR, I liked the whole series, but I'd have trouble recommending s01-02 generally.

Probably in my top 5 for Voyager.

If Tuvok wasn't married, I thought him and Seven would be ideal together.

An episode of their dinner date that checks in on them every 10 minutes while the "A" plot was going. Tuvok and Seven at the table, absolute silence while they occasionally poke at their padds checking data. "A" plot ends, episode ends, both agree the date was fantastic and agree to another.

He struck me as fairly incompetent as a captain. No opinion on him as an actor or person, but everyone I've heard in the biz says he's great.

I enjoyed Enterprise. I'd rate it fourth in 90s era Trek.

All Treks? That is bold claim. Based on my faulty memory, I might have to go with SNW. Of course they benefit from short seasons. They /should/ be better. I'd have to go through a rewatch of the series to nail it down. TNG can probably be knocked from contention. Not sure about DS9 and Voy.

Don't get me wrong. The only thing I really hated was theme song. I'll happily watch it again. I'll be starting TNG soon; maybe fall, and I'll go through them all chronologically by air date. Some time next year Enterprise will probably turn up.

Mastodon 4.1.4 allows hiding list contents from home. The feed is disordered, and is sometimes lacking context, but I find it minimally workable.

I prefer to use this instance as my primary, but I’ve noticed a lot of missing comments/votes/etc on posts from other instances. I’ll switch between this account and one on lemmy.world or Lemm.ee and notice that I’m not seeing all the activity. Does anyone know why?...

I'll make a reply sometimes from mastodon, and I don't know where it goes. Sometimes it shows up in a thread, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes it's delayed. I don't have a good enough grip on this stuff to figure it out exactly, but I suspect it's a federation issue of some kind.

Getting into the nuts & bolts of how the federation scheme works would probably give some clues, but that's a lot of work.

I really hate the transparent consoles they use in new Trek. I would be so angry being forced to work on one those ~8 hours per day. How can you see anything with zero contrast and background disruptions?! Like trying to read a web page with a movie going on behind it.

My computer terminal is at 75% opacity just for the novelty and visuals, but it makes it harder to work with. I wouldn't have it if I were working in the terminal all day.

I'm used to painful browsing. I keep my systems pretty locked down, so I'm always twiddling knobs to see what I want. What I envision is a tabbed interface where I could have startrek.website in a non logged in tab, with my logged in mastodon acct in another. I click on the federation link in startrek, and it automatically populates my mastodon acct to make a reply. A cursory look at kbin looks like it might work like that, but I need to spend the time studying it.

For one glorious summer as a kid, late night tv played Soap, Star Trek(the only one), and Twilight Zone. After it was done, the station went off air, and I'd sit on the back porch and smoke a cigar before going to bed.

Fun Fact: Tobacco purchases were limited to those 14(!) and over. Officially of course. All you really needed was a pulse. Not sure how you'd confirm 14 anyway.

TwilightZone has historically been my favorite show. I was wondering last night if I'd trade a Trek series for TZ. To keep it fair(hard), the trade would have be a premium trade. For me, it would be TZ original with the possible trades being TNG, DS9, or VOY. IOW, I'd get TZ, but would never get to see one of the Treks again. If reversed, I'd get the new TZs, but not the old in exchange for all Treks. What would y'all trade for a Trek series?

Janeway is my favorite part of Prodigy. I had a vague notion she was on the show, but when she made her appearance, I was "Janeway! \o/"

I avoid talk, trailers, and everything else for new Trek I want to see. I want the first time I see something to be in the correct context, and to be somewhat of a surprise. Makes it more fun.

It ain't over til it's over. I'm expecting s02 one way or the other, and I'm hoping for more after that.

I'm following lemmy through mastodon cause it suits me atm. You may find mastodon more interesting than you think. I've never been on twitter, and never will be, but I'm very enthusiastic about federation, and putting control in the hands of users, hence my account. While I'd like more varied content, atm, it's basically a Trek machine to me. I've met cool people, and seen cool things over the last few months. I'm pleased with my "purchase".

Yea, I completely get that. If twitter hadn't gone off the rails first, I might be in exactly your position. I wasn't a big reddit user. In 11 years, I generated about 3k comments(I know this cause I edited them all last night). What I really like are old school forums, but they've fallen out of favor. This place is pretty cool though, and I'm here to stay, if not prolific. My reddit account will be nuked at month's end. Just waiting to see if more stuff returns to edit.

Ok, so I'm trial following @startrek and I'm getting a torrent(<a bit of hyperbole) posts in my home page. How do you people that follow hundreds/thousands handle this? Just ignore most of what flows down the page?

I've tried to be careful curating the people I follow, and it was fairly manageable til today. Trying to avoid setting up a lemmy acct, but StarTrek is only gonna get more active, and there's more to life than StarTrek :^O How to manage?

It's a repo of github releases. They aren't compiled like f-droid releases are. With f-droid, there's another set of eyes looking at things before they get to you. With Izzy, you have trust each individual dev. I prefer f-droid, but I use Izzy releases when the program is preferred, or there's no f-droid equivalent.
