Hi! I’m Lohrun, I run the Kbin instance on fediverse.boo
Consider buying me a coffee to help keep the lights on in the server room! https://bmc.link/lohrun
This profile is from a federated server and may be incomplete. Browse more on the original instance.
What's your commit message style?
Was digging through a project at work today where some guy in 2014 made 100+ commits in a single day and the only one that had a comment said “upgrading to v4.0”.
Stanford researchers find Mastodon has a massive child abuse material problem (www.theverge.com)
Mastodon, an alternative social network to Twitter, has a serious problem with child sexual abuse material according to researchers from Stanford University. In just two days, researchers found over 100 instances of known CSAM across over 325,000 posts on Mastodon. The researchers found hundreds of posts containing CSAM related...
Why is my Lemmy experience feeling so lame? **UPDATE**
I’ve subscribed to a plethora of communities that really interest me and actually have posts and discussions in them, but I have to go to the specific community to see this. My “Subscribed” feed only contains a few of the same posts that I’ve seen for weeks in Hot, the same posts from even longer ago in “Active”,...
Why do Lemmy instances have such obscure TLDs?
Whenever I come across a new lemmy instance, it most likely has some sort of obscure TLD (.world, .ml, .ee, .me, .social just to name a few). Why aren’t there more with more common TLDs?
STOP saying “fuck u/spez” START saying “FIRE STEVE HUFFMAN”
“fuck u/spez” means absolutely nothing to anyone who isn’t familiar with Reddit, it’s just noise....

What Happened to lemmy.fmhy.ml? What Happens if an Instance Disappears?...
Shouldn't the hosts of instances have public information/profile available about how they will run their instances and use your information?
As I understand it, instances can be hosted by anybody. So, doesn’t it make sense that you should be able to shop around what instance you want to join based on stated beliefs on how the instance and information should be run (de-federation, etc)? Shouldn’t there be some kind of public information to keep them held...
Why are there policies against insults but not against business advertising?
Most instances seem to be putting a lot of emphasis on their code of conduct specifically in regard to insults and harassment. I’m not against that and i understand the concept of “your server your rules” but i’m just curious to understand why many are so concerned with slurs while they don’t seem to care much about...
Google engineers want to introduce DRMs for web pages, making ad-blocking near-impossible in the browser (github.com)
And since you won’t be able to modify web pages, it will also mean the end of customization, either for looks (ie. DarkReader, Stylus), conveniance (ie. Tampermonkey) or accessibility....

There’s less Reddit meta content on Reddit, why did I come here?
Welp that answers a lot of why all .ml are down (i.imgur.com)

[Rant] I hate the modern internet
I am fucking scared of the mass surveilence nightmare direction that the internet and the world as a whole is going towards… C2PA, france hacking itself into citizen phones, the UK anti encryption law, EU’s chat control, etc. Im also sick of and hate the “you will own nothing and be happy” mentality that corpos try to...
Youtube added shorts to the subscriptions page, pushing the subscriptions almost entirely off the page... (lemmy.world)
I prefer “list” view over grid view. Switching to grid view shows six videos before the break, but significantly less information about the video.

Libreddit and Teddit are practically dead
It appears API rate limiting has effectively killed these alternatives. You essentially get nothing but “Too many requests” 429 errors....

Sorry if this pic is a bit blurry. I took a photo of my colleges computer screen from my phone.
How it going here? I'm looking forward to helping fuck up Reddit's IPO.
Done with Reddit’s bullshit, and happy to check this out as it seems to be popular. Any apps that people would recommend for this platform?
Why are Mastodon's trending hashtags so ... dull? (lemm.ee)
As a new user, I’m enjoying Mastodon’s vibe so far but the one thing that is a letdown is the trending hashtags. I’ve been checking them regularly over the past couple of weeks and it seems like they’re pretty much always like this....
/kbin - preview of upcoming changes (kbin.social)

PSA: Upvote is not an upvote like you are used to (like Reddit) - "Boost" is the Reddit Upvote (kbin.social)
Like the title says, if you want to upvote something on KBin, you should use the Boost link, not the upvote button (Why? Don't know...)...

Is kbin.social anti-corporation? Should it be? (kbin.social)
I'm seeing discussions on other instances about how a "federated" corporate instance should be handled, i.e. Meta, or really any major company....

**Hello again!**You might be sick of me meta posting, but I'll be done soon I swear! You can screenshot this and post it to mildly infuriating. It definitey would fit!...
