How many of you run a Linux phone (Pine64, Librem etc) as your daily driver?

I was going through Pine64’s page again after I found the latest KDE announcement. With that said, I seem to see a lot of issues with firmware on the Pine, whilst the Librem is just plain out of budget for me. Was interested in how many people here run a Linux mobile as a daily driver, and how has your experience been?...

kick_out_the_jams,

It's mostly up to which manufacturers allow boot loader unlocking.

The pixels are somewhat a continuation of the nexus line which were more developer centric.

kick_out_the_jams,

I used Signal since it was called TextSecure and I don't think I ever successfully got another person using it.
Eventually uninstalled it because it was just largely useless, anytime I messaged a friend who seemed to be using it they were more confused than anything.

kick_out_the_jams,

You can run Windows on the Steam Deck but I'd argue you also introduce a bunch of new problems.

kick_out_the_jams,

"We are sorry for the fact that the game didn't meet the expectations of the majority of the players," reads a statement from Mytona, noting it's an investor in the game.

"Today we will work with Steam to open up refunds for any players who choose to make a refund. We're in contact with Fntastic regarding the future of the game."

https://twitter.com/mytona_official/status/1734359076690362582

Answer to those who ask for a refund. Mytona and we're currently working with Steam to allow refunds for any player who chooses to request one, regardless of game time. Fntastic received $0 and will receive nothing from The Day Before sales.

kick_out_the_jams,

It depends on the game but I'm surprised how well some games run.
Steam Deck got me playing games on MicroSD which is really where you feel the pain.

kick_out_the_jams,

Having the right cartridge available without trying to find a shop selling them is.

One of the obstacles in this is if your printer only takes a single brand of ink.
I usually just order ink, but it's not too hard to find ones compatible with my brother in a store if I need one immediately.

Why do people hate on mobile games, call them "not real games" and mock them, when some mobile-exclusive games are the best games I've played?

The Infinity Blade or Minigore series, for example, or anything made by Illusion Labs. These games are genius and most consoles don’t even have a touch screen or utilise it well like some smartphone games do....

kick_out_the_jams,

For a long while mobile games were either beyond simple (like snake on the old indesctructible Nokia) or we’re pay to win money extractor gachas.

There was a period before the latter really came around that things were pretty interesting.

Then in-app purchases, subscriptions and micro transactions basically dialed up to 11 on mobile platforms.

kick_out_the_jams,

It seemed to be just a 5 second wait.

The weird part is that changing user agent to chrome seems to avoid it.

kick_out_the_jams,

If you want to turn off hibernation for good you can do so with an elevated prompt.

powercfg.exe /hibernate off

Otherwise you want to turn off fast start up, which should avoid the hibernation/shutdown you're talking about.

kick_out_the_jams,

The fast start up option actually should still be under power options, though not really intuitive or easy to find.
Look for the part that says "Choose what the power buttons do" and it should be there.

I tend to just turn hibernation all off because I don't really use it, and I'd typically rather have the space hiberfil.sys takes up.

kick_out_the_jams,

There's plenty of other options for cloud storage out there.

The issue, especially with Apple devices, is how cleanly they integrate into the device and people's existing habits.

kick_out_the_jams,

One source with knowledge of the talks, which slowed after the Israeli ground invasion, said a central point of discussion was a demand by the Israeli side for Hamas to provide a full list specifying the name and details of each person held in Gaza. The Israeli side was unwilling to cease bombardments without receiving this list.

Hamas responded that it was unable to provide the list without a pause in the fighting, as the estimated 240 hostages were held by a number of different groups in places across Gaza. That suggested even Hamas leaders do not know for sure how many people are held captive, their locations or the number who have survived the bombardments.

There's a lot of conflicting information from the sources in this story though.

kick_out_the_jams,

Hamas announced the start of the operation, stating that it had fired over 5,000 rockets from the Gaza Strip into Israel within a span of 20 minutes. Israeli sources reported that at least 3,000 projectiles had been launched from Gaza. At least five people were killed by the rocket attacks.

They overwhelmed the air defense systems through sheer numbers. Proving a bit of theoretical weakness

kick_out_the_jams,

The air defense system mitigates a lot, which does to lead people like you hand-waving tens of thousands of rockets fired indiscriminately.

Even those systems have weakness, as Oct 7th proved, they can simply be overwhelmed.

You can read without a login (if you get a link) but you can't browse or anything.

kick_out_the_jams,

“it isn’t going to happen here.”

The line is "it can't happen here"

The difference being the complacency you speak of - we don't assume it can't happen.

kick_out_the_jams,

video hosting is extremely expensive

Year over year I'm pretty sure the cost has only gone down.

TBF 4k and higher resolutions are more common but it's generally not nearly as expensive as it once was.

kick_out_the_jams,

These sort of dongles that let you use a controller with other devices are great.
I own an old xbox 360-era arcade stick and it has greatly extended the life and use of it.

kick_out_the_jams,

If you asked other folks they'd probably tell you that "the game only starts at max level with fully built out gear."

You'll always find groups of people min-maxing but in my guild the general philosophy was to enjoy the journey.

If that meant getting drunk and causing shenanigans in town that day, so be it.

‘My children were saying: Let them just kill us’: British doctor trapped in Gaza with family calls for ceasefire (www.theguardian.com)

The doctor, who did not want to be named for fear of being targeted by the Israelis, arrived in Gaza with his wife and three teenage children three days before Hamas launched its murderous assault on 7 October, in which it killed about 1,300 Israelis and took more than 200 hostages....

kick_out_the_jams,

Deterrence and prevention are different from post facto responce

Presumably Hamas was not completely finished with their efforts after October 7th.

kick_out_the_jams,

Since 2001 Palestinian militants have launched tens of thousands of rockets and mortars targeted at civilians.

They get hand-waved because the air defenses usually work.

kick_out_the_jams,

aircraft within 10ft of each other is not safe.

if it's that normal it's a simple matter of time until an accident.

kick_out_the_jams,

You just don't put out statements calling their country illegitimate - it's not rocket science.

kick_out_the_jams,

It's also important to remember that the president isn't truly selected by votes - it's very possible to get the most votes and still lose.

kick_out_the_jams,

The only time I see medium is links to blog type stuff.

I've seen telegram spam all across the internet, the list of platforms I haven't seen telegram spam on is basically the list of dead ones.

kick_out_the_jams,

The other part is that you would also have to sue Elon to actually get paid.

It's Day 20 with no House speaker, and lower-level names seek Trump's support and race for the gavel (apnews.com)

Republicans gathered late in the evening to hear quick speeches from the congressmen seeking the job, though none has a clear shot at the gavel. Eight candidates are in the running for one speaker after one dropped out. Behind closed doors, they made their elevator pitches to colleagues ahead of internal party voting....

kick_out_the_jams,

There's still that pesky military to worry about.

Getting promotions passed has been an issue all year but it'll get worse after Dec 31st because many of them pledged to hold their positions to the end of the year.

kick_out_the_jams,

That tone works better when the original comment has some effort and not two lines you never seemed to put much thought into in the first place.

kick_out_the_jams,

Donkey Kong (1994) - not really rare or obscure, but definitely not talked about enough.
It starts out like regular donkey kong but then it goes somewhat differently.
The colorization is only complete with SuperGameboy so it might be tricky to play that way but there is a colorization hack being worked on.

kick_out_the_jams,

Except he mentioned the chance part.

It's called a lottery, I think it's generally understood that not everybody wins.

kick_out_the_jams,

I'll never go back to iPhone simply because Apple hasn't changed.

They finally have USB but I imagine you'll still need to use iTunes to have any chance of doing something basic like copying files off or on to it.

I think you can change some of the defaults like the keyboard settings now, but you're still stuck with the Apple app for messaging which is kind of worse.

kick_out_the_jams,

Presumably parts of Russia is of strategic importance, being where they come.
Not all battles are about taking land.

kick_out_the_jams,

Hotels don't really have those bells on the counter any more.

kick_out_the_jams,

You mean Robux.

Roblox bucks would have been ok but they do deserve some credit for the name.

kick_out_the_jams,

Try to imagine bird under capitalist system for the sake of the comic.

It's Fanatical, they do officially licensed keys and not grey market resales.

They used to be Bundle Stars ages ago.

Getting banned by a bot and having to beg somebody to actually read what you posted is an experience.

[Opinion - Legal Analysis] The Constitution bars Trump from holding public office ever again - Donald K. Sherman (thehill.com)

While some on the right portray accountability for the Jan. 6 Capitol riot as just another partisan dispute, two prominent conservative legal scholars have made the case that the Constitution disqualifies former President Trump from public office....

kick_out_the_jams,

Section Three requires no prior criminal-law conviction, for treason or any other defined crime, as a prerequisite for its disqualification to apply.

There's no requirement for a conviction though.

kick_out_the_jams,

Some of the conventions draw close to 1000 on their own, world wide the number must be greater.

Low dopamine computing

Why isn’t this a thing? Just turning your monitor into grayscale mode, changes the entire experience. Have you ever played a video game in grayscale? After such a long time of being used to overstimulation, it feels like being on antipsychotics. The constant exposure to multimedia, videogames and the mere display of colors...

kick_out_the_jams,

Windows 11 has a color filter setting with hotkey.

Win + Ctrl + C but you'll need to enable it and select grayscale first.

kick_out_the_jams,

I don’t have to break into my iPhone and install a third-party OS to get updates for that long.

You have to break into the OS to disable something like auto-arrange though.

kick_out_the_jams,

Their current solution illegally crosses the border itself.

kick_out_the_jams,

I kinda hate it but they're talking specifically about a different purpose of a calendar.

Most of us need to refer to a calendar quite frequently to know what calendar date (day, month, year) corresponds to which day of the week. But rather than having to change your calendar every month, this one-page calendar works for the entire year to give you all the information you need, practically immediately.

kick_out_the_jams,

If you want to consider positive gains negatively you can do that.
The graphic is not an exhaustive list of manufacturers though, there are more than the ones listed.

Scott the Woz (video games) and Patrick H Willems (films, but leans towards action)

Any way to listen to music (privately?) (lemmy.ml)

I’m going insane. I cannot for the life of me find a suitable way to listen to music privately. I’m on iOS, and I don’t know whether to just stick to Apple Music or give up on music in general (I tried, TRIED to go local, but all the apps are shitty). Any way to listen to music and not have your data compromised? Should I...

it's worth noting that the first friday of each month they usually forgo their cut so more money goes to the artists.

kick_out_the_jams,

It sounds like you needed to log one character into the wrong server and disconnect/reconnect the internet at the right time, so it seems pretty unlikely anybody banned actually did this unintentionally.
There isn't really much need to rollback every innocent player if the exploited stuff is relatively traceable.

No text mode is HDMI with a 3070, the monitor does have HDMI compatibility in the options but it's off.
The no scaling was displayport, but AMD RX 5700 to a GSync display so that might have been the issue because it did actually work fine with NVIDIA cards.
