idiomaddict,

Do they only transfer when you leave the site?

idiomaddict,

You’re almost certainly already committing fraud by fudging the loyalty numbers. It’s not a big deal if you were to do it once, but doing it ~60 times is going to signal to a potential judge that this was very intentional. I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this is illegal. You can keep doing it, but I’d stop well before your area’s felony limit for theft.

idiomaddict,

Warum bist du instantnudeln?

idiomaddict,

I’ve never seen it because I was “not like the other girls” as a kid, but holy shit. I’ve seen clips of the yellow face, but I’ve never heard anything about prostitution or the mafia. I had several friends who got really into it in middle and high school, including one whose Facebook last name she changed to golightly, so I don’t think your mom was alone in that thinking.

Now I kind of want to watch it with adult eyes, is it worth it?

idiomaddict,

How many bags of chips do you buy at once?

idiomaddict,

I think you might be picturing snack sized bags.

idiomaddict,

Then to answer your initial question, I tend to buy one bag of chips with about 15 servings that I probably get about 5 servings out of every few shopping trips (maybe 1-2 times/month). I don’t eat chips every day, and don’t rely exclusively on chips for snacks, so I don’t keep multiple bags stocked.

idiomaddict,

idiomaddict,

Yes and no. It’s necessary for interventions and sometimes to determine if someone is being dishonest. There’s a difference between checking a fact with someone else or raising your concerns to a third party about actually problematic behavior and enjoying the discussion and critique of someone else as a bonding activity with another person.

We would have waited a lot longer to get my grandmother tested for Alzheimer’s, if we hadn’t been able to compare our experiences of her, for example.

idiomaddict,

idiomaddict,

I wish I could get her to understand that sometimes doors need to be closed. She hates a closed door, be it the front door or the door to the bathroom or balcony, regardless of whether anyone is on the other side of the door or whether she herself cares at all about the other side of the door.

She can also open doors, so we have to bolt the front door. Our bathroom doesn’t have a lock though, so we’re just waiting for an awkward incident there.

idiomaddict,

My cat is far too smart for me, which should be embarrassing, but she’s very smart. She once broke a glass bottle (with water in it, so no smells) on a tile floor, then pulled a bath mat over the shards so she didn’t hurt herself. But she also straight up hides things for fun sometimes.

idiomaddict,

Basically just the front door and the bathroom door, though we pee and shower with the door open, as long as nobody’s visiting. We’ve got a storage room that we’d like to not have to heat, but we can’t keep the door shut lol

idiomaddict,

I’d love to, and we will when we’re in a more permanent place, but we’re in a rental with a scummy landlord right now. We’re looking for a new one, but it’s probably going to be until summer at least

idiomaddict,

I’ll try that, it’s been mostly either ignoring her meowing or meowing back so far, which doesn’t exactly work well

idiomaddict,

Oh god 💔 I’m fine doing that about her jumping on the stove or something that can endanger her, but if it’s just annoying me, I don’t want to cramp her style. I know that’s nuts, but luckily she’s a very well behaved cat whom I adopted as an already trained adult. I’ll recruit my husband for moral support 😅

idiomaddict,

Yeah. I am 100% not cut out for rearing anything, as I try to reason respectfully with whatever I’m interacting with. It was hard to realize that my niece doesn’t actually care why she can’t eat candy, but just wanted to distract me with a conversation so she could sneak candy.

I’m actually getting my masters in education (language instruction for adults, thank god), and even with fully capable adults there’s a lot of classroom management that I just have to put on a fake strict teacher persona and power through. If you try to do something and then walk it back, you’re always lost though.

idiomaddict,

That’s really fucked up to do to someone without telling them

idiomaddict,

IS THAT WHAT “man of culture” MEANS???

idiomaddict,

I suspect the trend is reversed with Taco Bell (but not necessarily Panda Express) and that it’s even stronger with casual sit down restaurants like Applebees or ihop

idiomaddict,

That would be interesting here, but it would make a sociology dissertation (in a bad way) on Reddit.

I think I behaved basically the same there and here, but the DMs I get here are all: the post we were discussing got removed, here’s the last thing I wanted to say. On Reddit, I got those, plus occasional death and doxxing threats, sometimes from a person who was pretending to have a civil conversation with me in a comments section at the same time they’re messaging me threats.

idiomaddict,

Tipping is good.

I’m American and have worked in the service industry in the US and Germany. I fully support tipping in the US, because waiting tables is one of the few jobs in the US where you can actually earn a good living without breaking your body (as much as construction, as a comparison) and without a training program. In a place where unions actually make a difference, it’s just a nice thing to do, and that’s obviously a better solution generally, but that’s not currently the case in the US.

idiomaddict,

I have never talked to someone outside of the service industry who liked tips. I’ve talked to a few people who made their livings off of tips and don’t support them, but it’s rare ime.

Yes, restaurants paying their employees a living wage is ideal. However, we don’t have that and I honestly don’t believe we’ll get it for a long time. Right now, there’s basically one job where an untrained, not especially strong person can make pretty good money (I made ~$20/hour for being not especially friendly, but most of my coworkers made $30/hour). Getting rid of tipping gets rid of that job, which feels like a worse thing than tipping.

This person should never be allowed to operate a vehicle again

If you had a one-way ticket to Jan 1, 1999 that departs on Jan 1, 2024, and you are allowed to bring whatever fits into a backpack with you, what would you bring to use to take over the world, and how would you use it? (kbin.social)

Assume that the future can change based on your actions, so any historical information that you bring along with you from the intervening 25 years may quickly drift out of the new realities history....

idiomaddict,

My dumb ass would put it on a blu ray or a flash drive or something unavailable to a normal person in 1999

idiomaddict,

That’s cool and all, but they love this daughter now.

You must pick a point in human history before the 1950s to be spend the rest of your life in. What era and place would you choose?

You would still have the same age, gender, personality, skin color, etc. and you would be able to speak at least one local language and would know basic information of the era and place. Your family, social standing, and such would be randomly picked.

idiomaddict,

Why not 1950 in the hijri calendar???

idiomaddict,

Is there a hostile architecture community here?

idiomaddict,

If all it takes is people being rude to you online to make you deny other people’s identities, you were looking for a reason.

idiomaddict, (edited )

You’re already online, you can look for evidence yourself. It’s a sensitive issue, and one that’s been around long enough that interested people have read a lot about it. Imagine going into another thread and asking for evidence that there’s a blockade in Palestine. You have to take control of your own learning at some point.

Edit: I see that you don’t have a twitter. You can look Rowling up on nitter.

idiomaddict, (edited )

I’m an immigrant in Germany and kind of had to laugh at this, because the cash thing is so hard for foreigners here. Since the pandemic it’s been better, but I had multiple moments before it where a grocery store or gas station only accepted cash with zero warning.

I didn’t like having much cash on me at first, because I was worried about losing it or having stolen. After about a year, I did lose my wallet, but the found things bureau at town hall called me to return it, cash still inside it. They charged 10% (iirc) and split it wiith the person who found it.

Edit: name of town hall changed for clarity

idiomaddict,

They provide a service, why wouldn’t they? As a student, I didn’t pay any taxes, but I still benefit from the service. If I had had my rent payment in the wallet or hadn’t been able to afford it, I might have tried to cap it, but it was like 60€ total (for a payment of 6€, not a payment of 60€), so I wasn’t bothered.

idiomaddict, (edited )

I’m not sure if it’s partially funded by taxes or just the profit from the found things, because I’ve only dealt with them the once. I’d assume it’s at least partially funded by taxes, because they’d need to find a lot of lost things otherwise. I don’t know if a taxpayer still has to pay a fee, but I suspect so, based on how things generally work here (though they’re also generally sympathetic, in the case that someone does have their rent or something that they can’t afford to pay in the wallet, though there probably is a cap on how much someone would have to pay).

I think of it basically as a deductible for the lost item insurance.

Edit: I realized the problem. The found things bureau called me, I just felt like that was a weird translation so said town hall. Sorry lol

idiomaddict,

Milk is actually designed! It’s super cool

idiomaddict,

The mother designs it.

idiomaddict,

That’s debatable, I feel like spiders design their webs.

idiomaddict,

I don’t know what their cognitive processes are, but it seems unlikely they do. It still sounds perfectly normal to me to say the following:

“Spider webs are designed to be safe for the spider, but still trap as much potential prey as possible.”

Does that really hit your ear (eye) wrong?

idiomaddict,

How would you phrase it? (Honest question)

idiomaddict,

That feels much more formal to me. Definitely not incorrect, but not how I’d explain it casually to someone.

idiomaddict,

I don’t really think “milk customized for a calf” makes much of a difference for the point OP was making. Sorry, if this was kind of a waste of time, I just love that milk changes composition based on the baby’s situation and then got really interested in the linguistic limits of “design.”

idiomaddict,

That’s fine, but this is one country that didn’t even push it through.

Methadone clinics are this on a large scale, and they exist around the world.
