Had a similar issue with a dishwasher. Unhooked it without asking us, refused to reinstall it. Bonus is that for whatever reason we apparently have a complicated dishwasher installation (it’s not next to a sink like they normally are). $300 to redo it.
My parents and grandparents will routinely give me directions to the restaurant we’re all going to. In the past I tried to stop them as I can never remember them anyway and certainly don’t use the same landmarks. Now I just nod my head and pretend like I got it all on the first try and then just use Google maps like a sane person.
Technically speaking this sort of 'time stop’s phenomenon would have to selectively keep time going for certain objects. Otherwise you’d suffer to death because the air molecules are frozen or cause some sort of weird radiation issues from atoms colliding with other atoms as you moved while other things didn’t.
I had a legitimately enjoyable time playing through the story. The open world (at that point) was fun to explore. Then the entire game fell off a cliff as soon as I finished the main story content and tried to get into the ‘end game’. It’s clear they had no real plan for what to do with it and many of the decisions made the felt ok while leveling, did not scale at all with an end game loop.
When literally every car manufacturer does it and does it on something that is technically a luxury, but most people have already got used to (like heated seats or apple carplay). The public has long revealed that they have basically no immunity towards these sorts of high level collusion tactics. And the government agencies meant to stop it seem to think it only counts if all the car manufacturers met in some sort of ‘let’s be evil’ conference to plan it out, instead of, you know, just copying off what everyone else is doing.
If you live alone and get lonely, go to the office and make friends. I don’t care. Just don’t drag me away from my wife and cat so I can feign interest in yet another surface level talk with my coworker pretending to care about what they do.
Modern corporations heavily disincentivize making any sort of real connection with your coworkers because most of them will be gone in a couple of years, or laid off, or they might use the info they have on you from your personal life to throw you under the bus.
I’m perfectly happy spending my downtime from work with my family and my off time with my real friends instead of putting on a performance everyday assuring my boss that I’d definitely rather talk about nothing and spend 1/3 of my life making useless small talk.
How does Gen Z feel about nudity in films? Either nudity that fits the scene and feels logical or nudity just for fan service?
I’m cool if your just not a fan of shoe horned in and cringey sex scenes, but lots of younger folks come off as weirdly puritanically prudish to me. Why are we so much more comfortable with casual violence than casual nudity? That bothers me.
I really don’t understand how people who are reasonably devout followers of different religions ever end up together. Almost all of them make it against the rules or at least extremely problematic. Why would you marry someone that your religion says is going to hell because they don’t believe what you do? And if you do it anyway, why would you stay in that religion? Makes no sense.
Also people seem to completely ignore the amount of re-learning I’d need to do to switch. I’m not really a power user of Windows, but part of the reason it runs pretty smoothly for me is that I have a decade plus of knowledge of common failure points. You sort of get an intuition about things after awhile that I don’t have on a different OS. Little issues the might result in a couple of days of troubleshooting are just solved immediately because I have hunches on what the issue is.
Meanwhile I’m struggling on my steamdeck to deal with minor problems because I’m very unfamiliar with the setup. It’s not insurmountable, but it’s a barrier to entry that I’m not willing to undertake just yet.

It also sends mixed messages when your manager tells you to take time off for vacation and not check email, but then is often found on calls during their own PTO. Which is what my boss tends to do.

Should just empower a local resident to build a local mom and pop grocery store. Subsidize them so they can compete against the larger chains if you have to, but that’s how it used to be done and can still be done. Eventually they probably wouldn’t need the subsidies because they’re going to focus on what they can sell. They might not have the selection of a big chain, but if they aren’t needing to compete with a billion dollar company that operates at a loss to drive them out of business, they’ll do ok.

Having gone to a VR gaming business (the kind where you book a time slot, not an open arcade) I wasn’t impressed. The hardware isn’t really rugged enough for that kind of commercial use, so it was clear they were struggling to keep the gear in decent condition.
But besides that, the limited time nature of the setup meant that the game options needed to be significantly dumbed down so that anyone could pick it up in a few minutes. And there isn’t enough of a demand to create any interesting experiences, most of what was on offer was neutered VR games I’d already tried on my personal VR setup.
I feel like all I see in the VR space is endless articles on new hardware and basically nothing on quality VR games. I always thought I’d upgrade my Vive to an Index or something better one day, but so far the only compelling reason is HL: Alyx and I’m not spending that kind of money on a single game.
Should we really be propping up jobs of dubious usefulness rather than going after a proper social safety net? We could pay people to dig random holes and others to fill them in if we just wanted to pointless jobs. Why not just hand out the money directly? Typically you need your main company password reasonably typeable because you’ll be entering it constantly and often in places that don’t support password autofill.
Which is also why forcing people to change passwords so often causes more issues than it solves. People just dumb it down until it meets the bare minimum requirements.

The biggest issue to me is that all music services offer effectively the same access to music. I’m not choosing between Spotify and YouTube music because my favorite artist is on one, but not the other. However we are conditioned to think this is ok when it comes to video. Streaming services never should have been content creators, we should be choosing Netflix vs Hulu based on price, app quality, video quality.

My understanding of the current situation is that unity is somehow claiming these new terms will apply to my game. But I don’t see how that’s feasible. Shouldn’t my relationship with unity be at an end as the product was completed? Would I have to de-list my completed game to avoid charges? How is that legal?
So is this something that all companies deal with? For example:
If Google builds an app with an embedded library that costs a license fee, and the company that offered that license decides to raise is price by 10x for future versions and they only give 3 months warning. Now my app has to go without security updates or suddenly be subject to extreme charges. But I don’t have enough time to completely rewrite my app either.
I find it hard to believe companies would leave this sort of thing up to chance. If AWS suddenly decided to 100x it’s price structure would that actually fly legally? If so, why don’t they?
