You need a life dude.

gmtom, to sciencefiction in Stargate SG1 was so versatile. Somehow it pulled off episodes as different as ‘Heroes’ and ‘200’, with each feeling perfectly at home in the show.

Im watching Stargate for the first time at the moment and im really surprised by how good it is. on season 7 at the minute and cant wait to see whats coming.

Are Atlantis and SGU just as good or is there a dip in quality?

gmtom, to news in I lost my job to ChatGPT and was made obsolete. I was out of work for 3 months before taking a new job passing out samples at grocery stores.

Despite what the pseudo-intellectuals will tell you, ChatGPT is not some all powerful do everything AI. Say you want to use GPT to create your own chatbot for your company to give company specific info to people at your company, you cant just take existing chat GPT and ask it “how do I connect to the wifi” or “is the office closed on monday” you need an in-house team of people to provide properly indexed information, train and test the bot, update it, handle error reports, etc.

AI is not magic, its literally just an advanced computer script, and if your job can be replaced by an AI then it could have been replaced by a regular computer script or program, there just wasnt enough buzzwords and media hype to convince your boss to do it.

gmtom, to general in C/[email protected] being US only is weird

Can we change the sub icon then? Since it’s wearing an American flag hat thing?

gmtom, to til in TIL Alice Walton (Walmart heir) killed a pedestrian in a driving accident and was never charged. She has also been arrested for DUI twice but never charged.

Not to be an Internet edgelord, but if some billionaire killed one of my family and got away with it, I would make it my life’s mission to hunt them down and make sure they get some kind of justice.

That’s completely besides the point. Teachers are responsible for a child’s wellbeing when they are looking after them, and as part of that tbr child might bring that up to their teacher and the child should be able to trust in that teacher to keep it from parents who might react negatively to that news, much like you would a doctor.

This law doesn’t change the education the child receives it only serves to put trans kids at risk of abuse from their parents.

gmtom, to youshouldknow in YSK: Cats don't like their whiskers touching their food bowl. This is why they beg even if food is still left at the bottom.

No, whisker fatigue is mostly a myth. Like just put some thought into it for a moment, do cats care when their whisters touch stuff when they are lying down or sleeping? Do they care when they squeeze into a tight space or lay in a tiny box? Does your cat rub its face on anythingnand everything it gets the chance to? Then why would only thr bowl cause whisker fatigue?

gmtom, to news in White neighbour who fatally shot Black mother in row over children playing pleads not guilty to manslaughter

Shes from Florida so Desantis will probably give her a medal and she’ll be brought on his presidential campaign tour to screech about woke mind virus and cancel culture.

gmtom, to asklemmy in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?

Yeah im not saying exercise itself is pointless, just going to a gym and lifting is the most tedious way to exercise. To use your reading example, playing a sport like tennis or football, or riding a bike through a trail or something would be like reading a story book, whereas going to the gym would be like reading a dictionary or an encyclopedia.

If its what you enjoy, more power to you. but i really dont get it.

gmtom, to asklemmy in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?

There are always ways to make it work. Like for me I have regularly scheduled volleyball for a couple hours twice a week. Which because its inside I never have to worry about the weather and theres enough people that other peoples schedules arent an issue. And while volleyball can be pretty niche you can find regular open invite football anywhere even in small towns. Then I also go to the skatepark twice a week too which doesnt rely on other and the weather rarely interrupts it, and if it does I go to the one under the overpass instead. Ive been doing this for years, extremely regularly, and the fact that its actually fun and I look forward to it has made it far more regular than when I went to the gym, plus ive made loads of friends, learnt actually skills and dont have to put up with gym bros. So to me there is really no downside.

gmtom, to asklemmy in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?

I just dont understand. Its so incredibly boring. Like the physical equivalent of doing complex math problems for no reason.

gmtom, to asklemmy in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?

Ive made the argument for years that working out in the gym is by far the worst possible way to work it. Its just so boring and depressing and take sup your limited time.

Why would I spend an hour at the gym working out when I can play football with freinds, or go to a skate park or go mountain biking, or even just go for a run through a park? Its like trying to learn something by just doing math problems over and over again instead of working through actual problems.

gmtom, to fediverse in 10 days after 3rd party reddit app shutdown, Lemmy's top 10 instances combine for a thriving userbase of 234,000

I think the users on here tend to be active on the site in general rather than just a few specific subreddits. And also the small amount of users all interacting on the same communities gives the entire site the feeling that smaller subreddits used to have. Which was always infinitely better than big subreddits will millions of users, infested with bots.
