Like, what's the difference between a mask and a public persona?

Both my parents are pretty autistic and in total denial about it. Lacking siblings, cousins, a culture, or human contact, I really have no frame of reference for this stuff.

But I am glad you are alive and sharing here. Your coping mechanisms (whether unhealthy or not) are serving you. I give you credit for that. Please know that means you have an inner strength beyond that which can be killed by her. I am holding a future in my mind where you are free from it.

Just finished book 4 in the Empires of Bronze series and man it was good. Highly, highly recommend the series. It is well thought out, descriptive (to the point of revulsion at some of the war and torture scenes), and full of twists and turns. It feels like one of those great series where the whole storyline was plotted out well before the first word was put on paper. Absolutely recommend.

I have such mixed feelings about social media a lot of the times these days... I'm noticing that have a habit of gravitating to the socials when I'm feeling lonely and feeling dysregulated from that loneliness, but more often than not I'm just ingesting more information that dysregulates me even further, causing even more loneliness and despair and wanting to isolate from people even more.

More than 20 comrades have dropped out of my groups, both paid & free over the past 2 days for the express reason that I speak out agaisnt antisemitism, denounce murder. and want peace for Palestinians and Israelis.

Some for the express reason that I’m a “killer” and “white supremacist”

Many of you follow me for a long time and have met me and worked with me.

I often speak about antisemitism in our community. No, opposing the Israeli occupation isn’t antisemitism. I oppose it. Daily and my entire life.

This isn’t the question. This is about using antisemitic tropes and illogical standards. This is about bigotry towards Jewish people and Israelis as humans.

I won’t shut up. If you think my words are sullied and dirty and immoral because I am a JEW and an ISRAELI, if you think because of that I am not a valuable human, and if you haven’t unfollowed or dropped out yet, GO AHEAD NOW and drop out. I don’t need bigots in my spaces or world.

I'm baffled that anyone would give you or anyone stating this further grief. I’m also a Jew. Moreover, I am an Israeli.

In my religious community I’ve been questioned and doubted more times than I can count about my commitment to my faith due to my political beliefs. I’ve been called a self-hating Jew.

In my national community I’ve been called a traitor. A spy. An aide to those who would kill us.

Conversely, on the left I’ve been called a Zionist pig. A spy. Not a real leftist. A colonizer.

To many on the Jewish right I’m an antisemite and a race traitor.

To my comrades on the left I am an apologist for Israel.

Alienated everywhere.

The past 24 hours have been most disturbing. For those Palestinians facing yet another horrible day of occupation and death AND to Israelis facing a shocking of chaos and death.

I live abroad and don’t face any danger to my life. I am not a victim and this thread shouldn’t be seen as such. Simply sharing my feelings.

Many will reply here and call me a self-hating Jew and a traitor, again.

Others will call me an apologist for Israel.

Days like this show me why I’m so lonely. Not welcome in my religious community, my national one, or my political one.

The Eternal Jew.

People love to say autistic people don’t understand nuance. I’ve been accused of this my entire life.

But the reality is, I get nuance. I’ve fought for a better place my entire life. And still do.

But it’s most of you casual onlookers who don’t get nuance.

And to my fellow committed Jews on the Left, I see you so so so very much.

We are not alone. Our values as leftists and as Jews make us who we are. We fight for the change we want NEED in this world.

We won’t allow bigots to push us out.

I can only imagine how not only recent events, but so much in the last 30 years has been anguish for you to witness. I am angry at those that oppress, and angry that people who won't/don't get hurt are encouraging destruction. And I am livid that people will exploit the "isms" to perpetuate both, ignoring consequential pain they inflict and endangering even more lives. I see you.

I got the infornation that my mother alway thought or "knew" that I am autistic. I didn't talked yet about it with her and I can't imagine that there is any chance I can't escalate it totally. I am 36 right now and feel deceived and betrayed. I had a tough childhood and youth. And big part of it was that she never set boundaries to me and especially my sibblings. There was a lot to forgive already in the past. And I thought I made my peace with my past, my family and myself.

@dillyish @obrerx @actuallyautistic Thank you for the book recommendations! I've read the Pete Walker book you mention along with others on trauma but, never heard of "Trauma Sensitive Mindfulness". I shall definitely check it out, as well as "Good Inside", by Dr. Becky Kennedy.

The author takes you through her explorations/attempts to heal from the acute emotional abuse and subsequent abandonment by her mother. I found it authentic, and her efforts commendable. She unearthed some gems and a framework on which to build a life. For me, I prefer the methodology of Janina Fisher explained in her book, "Healing the Fragmented Selves of Trauma Survivors: Overcoming Internal Self-Alienation"

To understand these people I highly recommend Mohsin Hamid's small book THE LAST WHITE MAN. It is under 200 pages and does an excellent job in a fictional setting of highlighting the future these people fear. It moves slowly but it's worth hanging in there to the end.

@obrerx @actuallyautistic I am so sorry about the death of your brother. Having a complicated relationship can make it harder to process.

I'm sending you a huge virtual hug or hugs, as many as you need/want. This sounds like you are bracing yourself for being judged harshly and/or excluded at a time when you are vulnerable, possibly in shock, & grieving. (I was the family scapegoat, so I am familiar with being/feeling excluded.)

I second the recommendation to meet for coffee instead of food.

According to Weir et al (2021), Autistic people are more likely to report self-medicating themselves.

This means we are more likely to be found on possession of things that can be used to criminalise us.

It's a controversial opinion, but this is why we should be pushing for full decriminalisation. Prohibition doesn't curb access or use, it just makes it more dangerous.

Marginalised groups are disproportionately affected by prohibition.

Today is the 78th anniversary of the first detonation of a nuclear weapon on Earth, the Trinity Test in New Mexico in 1945, three weeks before the nuclear attacks on Japan.

There will be many images posted of the mushroom cloud today, but here is what mattered more, the fallout cloud. Dozens of homes and communities were blanketed with fallout, which which also contaminated fields as far away as Illinois and Indiana.

They have always known about radioactive fallout.
