dudewitbow,

I think theres no hard evidence that its outright causing stuff, but there’s a lot of studies on some correlations. some involve phthalates messing with the male hormones and genitalia for offspring

Top 20 games played on Steam Deck in the past month, sorted by playtime.

@steamdeck

dudewitbow,

Keep in mind, theres a giant community behind yhe steamdeck, and if a game allows mods(especially bethesdas), theres always a modder who has a modlist for tweaks specifically for the deck.

News: People on the internet find out some people on the internet grinds their gears

dudewitbow,

From what i experienced with the 4 companions, yes, immideately after finishing the companion quest and having the romance option, the commitmemt option opened up

dudewitbow,

For me, it was immediately after. Romanced and the topic of commitment was already an option, which I laughed about

dudewitbow,

Best bang for buck and caring about exclusive features are counter intuative. The brand with more features always cost more, and always try to set the market in their favor to prevent competitors from gaining ground, even of they have or do not have a better product at a given price segment.

E.g anyone who bought a 3050 for 30% more than a 6600 when the latter was by default, 15%+ faster on average in a performance tier that raytracing is usually not viable.

dudewitbow,

Both nvidia and amd sees CP2077 as a game to showcase tech now. The only irony is that imo, its actually of the weaker games for specifically DLSS/FSR as its the one game due to it having the most severe ghosting problem, regardless of version

dudewitbow,

Physically, i think the other ones were that the phone is more fragile (can be broken with bending with only hands), and the phones with darker colored titanium edges gets its paint scratched off easily.

Titanium is very sensitive to scratches, just telling people as anybody who used an Essential PH-1 could tell you (I didd for 4 years)

dudewitbow,

The source on the physical and edge aspects are jerryrigseverything tests

dudewitbow,

It depends on how youre using it and what youre actively doing from what ive seen. Its common for it to get hot for those doing the initial, just bought phone and transfering data due to the amount of data transfered between devices.

The other way people see it is when gaming, one reviewer I believe had the phone throttle while playing genshin impact, and heavier gaming is becoming a bigger marketing tool for Apple recently, as its actively advertising Resident Evil on its phone, and theres a few more devs coming along too. While phone gaming is a minority in cellphone use cases, its actually considered the largest paying base when considering the entire gaming industry.

dudewitbow,

Its why imo if youre going to get a 15 pro or better, get the titanium color. Its a “new” color with a titanium border with the least color problems.

dudewitbow,

I do miss the weight and ceramic as well. Ive replaced the screen (multiple times, my fault) towards the end of its life and batteries, but tmobile cutting off 3g was time for me to move on from it (to a Zenfone 9)

The pixel to me isnt there yet to where i want it let me want it(outside of my preference for smaller phones) with the SOC(which is tied to battery life). Maybe until a generation after google launches its fully custom SOC where id consider getting the A varient of the phone only because its the smallest model.

dudewitbow,

buying a case actually exacerbates the scratching issue, as any small piece that gets into the case scratches it over time, hence experiences with Essential PH-1s. its just a symptom of titanium.

as a material, titanium is actually softer than some aluminum based alloys, so its softness allows for some dust, which have a higher hardness than it, to scratch it up. a common material that would scratch it up would be a grain of sand, and if caught inside the case, would do damage overtime.

dudewitbow,

of course not, its always gacha that profits, as thats the current situation its that AAA titles moving onto it open up a new market. it just terrible timing that opening up the new market coincided with the hottest iphone in awhile

dudewitbow,

Well the camera one doesnt technically have to be capitalism.

dudewitbow,

Some people forget isekai is pretty old. For late 80s and 90s kids, Digimon and Inuyasha are isekai (well Inuyasha is closer to portal fantasy but isekai on its own is a sub branch of that).

Hell, Spirited away is isekai, and i can bet most people watched that before SAO. SAO just happened to be the most popular isekai at the time that isekai became mainstream and abundant.

dudewitbow,

Tbh if you want gray area keys. Microsoftsoftwareswap has always had verified users selling business generated licenses keys. If you HAVE to buy a key, at least buy one from vetted people and not some rando on a seller site

dudewitbow,

The difference between csgo and cs2 is similar to cs 1.6 to cs source. Its a major change of engine with brings in other changes with it.

dudewitbow,

because source wasn’t a sequel to them, just an engine port. Why counterstrike 2 is called 2, imo, just because Source 2

Being a new game in a series doesn’t necessarily mean that its the next numbered game, especially to valve. Technically speaking, the other counterstrike project (Condition Zero, single player content) is also a thing.

dudewitbow,

Hence “to them”, not to people. They did make changes. But that doesnt stop what they think. Your opinion doesnt change what they think.

dudewitbow,

Modern ones will. The gpu requirement is basically says any gpu from 2011 and newer (2011 was gcn 1.0 and kepler) with Vulkan support.

For windows, vulkan is supported by skylake(6th gen) and newer, for linux, vulkan is supported all the way back to Ivy Bridge, but the experience playing CSGO would probably be terrible.

YouTube is axing its ad-free Premium Lite subscription plan - The Verge (www.theverge.com)

I was happily using this for a year or so now. Feels fairer than using an ad blocker. But now they apparently want more money out of people. Feels like some sort of internet video apocalypse is happening, where the services become extremely fragmented and expensive, like YouTube, netflix, hbo, Hulu, Disney+ and whatnot. Each...

dudewitbow,

Premium sub probably does but not guaranteed. Iirc, premium subs offer creators $ from google via time watched, vs free users ad impressions.

Its part of the reason why some youtube channels have scheduled Livestreams, as Livestreams make a lot of money off premium subscribers watching.

dudewitbow,

While i agree that prices have been stagnant, its also a game of companies wanting to reduce risk. You have unicorn examples like Baldurs Gate 3 which took its time to develop a game, and has stated they dont plan on making paid expansion content, meaning where they at they see the game as profitable, despite spending 5 years in development for it.

Part of the reason why some games have balooned cost is because of improper spending of the money. Many spend a lot of money on marketing which tends to have an overly inflated cost on its own, due to the fact that people have a preference to play whats familliar, however its been shown that also actually making a good game with little marketing also works, and a lot of dev studios havent gotten to that point yet.

dudewitbow,

Imo the best example of an underpriced game is Terraria. The game stayed 10$ for the longest time, had a decade of updates(not just tiny ones), ridiculous hours of playtime and people even complained the devs were “greedy” when they increased the price of a steam sale of it(which the game is still an unbelievably good value)

dudewitbow,

There are a lot of people who just have weddings with only the closest parts of their friend/family circle rather than making it auper extravagant.

dudewitbow,

Its mixed, naughty dog tends to have new, while technically speaking, God of War and Spiderman is considered old IP in the case for Sony.

The statement is nostly true for Nintendo, as the only new IP for Nintendo that went anywhere was Splatoon, and Ring Fit to some extent. While ips like Arms, Boxboy, Astral Chain, Ever Oasis, Sushi Striker fell out of relevance.

Making a new IP tends to end up in failure.

dudewitbow,

So, users get a feature-rich distribution platform, and developers (and by extension users) pay a tax to access those users. So the question is, how fair is that tax, and what effect does that tax have on the games that get made? Your view on that is going to depend on what you want from Steam, but more relevant I think is how much Steam costs to operate. How much of that 30% cut feeds back into Steam? My guess is not much; though I could be wrong.

But anyway, let’s imagine you took away half the 30% cut. Where does that money go? Well, one of two places: either your pocket, or the developers (or publishers) pocket (depending on how the change affects pricing). The benefits to your pocket are obvious, but what if developers just charge the same price? Well, as far as I’m aware, a lot of games are just not profitable - I read somewhere that for every 10 games, 7 fail, 2 break even, and 1 is a huge success - so my personal view is that this is an industry where developers need all the help they can get. If that extra 15% helps them stay afloat long enough to put out the next thing without selling their soul to Microsoft or Sony or whoever is buying up companies these days, and Steam isn’t severely negatively impacted, I’d call that a win.

Would you claim that devs who also port their game to console are guilty as the consoles also take 30% cut? The entire console scene is basically what Valve is doing, except valve decides to compete on an open platform instead of a walled garden.

dudewitbow,

Not all consoles sell at a loss. Nintendo outright sells for profit, and the ones that didnt are the WiiU and thr Virtual Boy, and I don’t have to remind you how those sold.

And we are also at an age where even Valve is in the console space. They sell the steamdeck at a severely lower price point compared to its competion.

Look at the ROG Ally, Lenovo Legion Go, Aya Neos entire catelog, GPD Win 4, Ayn Loki and a bunch more.

The argument about consoles selling it at subsidized price is justifyable means your saying Valve is in the right to given they are now in that market.

dudewitbow,

OP, your better off selecting one of Chinas south east asia conquests over Square.

dudewitbow,

Generally if the question revolves around not building housing, its usually zoning laws and nimbys.

dudewitbow,

Side load it by picking a porter of your choice and downloading it

www.celsoazevedo.com/files/…/google-camera/

Not going to go through the talk of why one mod over another depending on phone because the answer is, it depends, on a lot of variables.

dudewitbow,

It doesnt suddenly affect old games, so games that are already out amd no plans on updating is immune as long as they dont upgrade to the new version of unity, so now it mainly targets games that are still updating, or new games, but not neccesarily games that are old or choose to stay on an older LTS build of unity.

dudewitbow,

Its a compatibility layer, which is not usually considered emulation.

dudewitbow,

It world definately be hard to prove it. One would be purchases made while actively playing the game, and if you had an alibi by being at work or something as a parent, and the network/ip used to be purchase it doesnt match the network at work, at least the general area.

Theyll probably find a way.

dudewitbow,

Hence one, my example doesnt cover all situations, and definately not my job to look for the cover of all situations.

dudewitbow,

Outside of the better gpu, the one advantage the other devices have is emulation. Steamdeck sits on the edge of performance for some of the harder to emulate devices heavy titles (PS3, Switch). The ones using Ryzen 3/4 would trivially handle emulation better than the Steamdecks CPU, which uses Ryzen 1+ (part of the reason why its low cost)

dudewitbow,

So do you argue that all manufacturers should get rid of the usb port as well and switch to wireless charging because juicejacking is a thing?

That’s a really poor argument to make when the usb port is more prone to attacks (as it requires 0 app use on the user front) vs sd cards, which requires a user to hand over permissions.

dudewitbow, (edited )

Arguing security flaws based on someone having physical acess to a device is on a completely different level of vulnerabilities.

Thats like treating vulnerabilities like Spectre/Meltdown/Downfall/Zenbleed on the same category as ones that require physical access to the machine, many which dont get names due to being severe is small because they are firmware patched quickly.

On the topic of SD card encryption, its not native to android, however many companies who offer sd card models(e.g Samsung) have encryption as a setting put in theirselves.

dudewitbow,

You consider them, but they are never treated on the same level of threat.

Ironic that youd post something from the UK, given they just banned end to end encyption of messaging.

MHR Help choose a weapon

I’m a beginner. I’ve used Charge Blade extensively I know it’s a technical weapon but CPP and other wirebind skills make it really fun to use. I’m thinking of picking an alternate weapon to use as a main. I didn’t like the Lance felt really slow. Was thinking of using long sword again what do you guys recommend for a...

dudewitbow,

But taking a shower in chemicals are okay? The mental gymnastics of some people.

Tap water is also more regulated than bottled water too.

dudewitbow,

Tap water is regulated by the EPA, and bottled water is regulated by thr FDA (in the states). Both have to make it drinkable. EPA forces types of contaminents, intended use (residential water is designed to be drinkable), and have all water quality reports public after treating said water. EPA however doesnt regulate the pipes, so the flynt michigan sotuation came out due to that.

Bottled water tests water at source and before product. Bottled water must label the source where the water came from, which includes tap…

Unless the person drinking only bottled water actively reads the label to know what the source water is, its a very popr argument to avoid tap when the attempt to avoid it is half baked.

dudewitbow,

To take a recent example, Microsoft considered just completely leaving the UK gaming console market if it fully blocked the buyout of blizzard activision, as it already won elsewhere and had good trial against the FTC in the U.S.

dudewitbow,

Isnt 7 way too early for a kid to hit puberty

dudewitbow,

I thought that one random spacestation where gravity turned on and off every 10 seconds was pretty interesting puzzle wise.

dudewitbow,

Alternatively 2$ if your region is set to Turkey.

dudewitbow,

Xbox sales in the UK has a similarish rate as the PS5 does.

I've never tried a Pumpkin Spice Latte. Tell me all about it!

So I keep seeing these referenced in various media formats but I don’t recall ever seeing one on the menu where I live (Australia). Maybe they are sold under a different name? Maybe only in some places and I wasn’t paying attention? I don’t know, but I sure know I’ve never ordered one....

dudewitbow,

Yah. The can of “pumpkin” filling that most people use is actually a different squash and not a pumpkin (at least the one we think of when you say pumpkin). A pumpkin doesnt have a hard definition, its just a family of hard shelled squashes. Its just not that typical orange pumpkin.
