I really don’t like Lower Decks. Before you downvote, I would never tell anyone it’s bad or that they shouldn’t like it. I just really can’t figure out why most people seem to like it so much....
The short version is, they forced me to close my savings/checking account due to $32 in insufficient funds that was reported to Chex Systems by my former bank, and told me that I could reopen them once the report was cleared.
I got the report cleared with proof that it was due to a third party (AOL - who admitted it and got the report removed) that made unauthorized charges to an account I had closed.
When I went back to get my accounts reopened, the manager spoke me like I was the scum of the earth for ever having been reported, even though it wasn’t my fault and I had proof. She told me that I couldn’t open an account at Wells Fargo for 7 years, and said I could come back after that and open accounts.
As if I would ever go near Wells Fargo again after treating me like that over a $32 report that I had proven wasn’t my fault.
I’ll have fallen about 3ft, landing directly on my coccyx on a hard tile floor, causing additional damage to 2 discs in my lower back that I’ve already had worked on twice. There’s almost a 100% chance that this will result in my needing to have those two discs removed completely.
So I really, really hope I don’t get instantly teleported 2 feet to the left while I’m sitting here.
My sister is 23 and still dresses up and goes out knocking doors for candy… and I find it weird but I let her do her. It got me thinking, at what age do you think someone should stop Trick r Treating at? Just curious.
Republican Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, in his first remarks after being elected Wednesday afternoon, told Members of Congress that “Scripture” and “the Bible” are clear that they have been “ordained” by God.
A few more brown folks here and there wouldn’t hurt.
Be the change you want to see in the world.
We’re the thinking of Vermont as a possible destination once my wife is eligible for her full retirement pension, and we can get out of this christo-conservative, handmaid’s-tale-wannabe, craphole of a state (Texas).
We’re not ‘brown’ but it would still be nice if Vermont had some more diversity by the time we get there.
I don’t know about ‘automated’ education, but we 100% SHOULD have been using technology as an education AMPLIFIER for a long time already. No AI needed for that.
My wife is in education and spent over a decade teaching science at an alternative public school (the “You’ve fallen behind due to illness, pregnancy, or family issues, so come here to catch up” type, NOT the “You’re a total delinquent, here’s a ‘prison classroom’” type) that did self-paced learning.
She had recorded a ton videos of herself teaching all of the various concepts/standards that were required by the state for her subjects. She also had assignments ready for the entire course, and labs which could mostly be done by the students with minimal direct interaction by the teacher.
So the kids would come in, check in with her on what was the next thing they needed to work on, then would watch the video on their Chromebook and then do the assignment or lab. She’d be there for them to ask her about anything they didn’t understand, or for whatever help they needed.
There were of course some labs and assignments that they would schedule to be done by the whole class at a given time, when it was necessary, or made more sense.
So the kids who picked it up quickly could finish a semester worth of work and learning within a month or two, leaving her more time to spend helping the kids who were struggling with a given concept.
It also gave opportunities for the kids who had mastered a concept to be able to help those who hadn’t.
I see no reason similar methodologies and technologies couldn’t be employed at regular schools to amplify the ability of teachers to educate students and give the teachers more time to help the ones who weren’t picking things up as quickly, without holding back the students who were.
Sure, there are plenty of musicians who had a bigger impact on music as a whole, but NOBODY I’ve ever seen was more in tune with the universe than Stevie when he was playing.
As far as I can tell, he didn’t actually play the guitar. He just acted as a conduit to channel music directly from the universe through a guitar. I don’t think he ever once had to pause and consider what to play next when he was improvising, it just flowed out of him non-stop.
He had already started getting even better, having finally gotten sober, and it kills my soul every time I think about what else he could’ve given us had he not gotten on that helicopter.
I have a terrible habit of watching Youtube while I eat, and then one video turns to ten and I’ve wasted the entire day. I’ve tried just not watching it while I eat, but JUST eating is so incredibly boring that I cave in and turn it on regardless. I can’t get any work done while eating either, since it takes me out of flow...
In addition to what others have mentioned, you also can’t use USBC adapter for the headphones and charge it the same time, without getting another weird, likely flaky, and definitely more bulky adapter.
Samsung has released a new video in support of Google’s #GetTheMessage campaign which calls for Apple to adopt RCS or “Rich Communication Services,” the cross-platform protocol pitched as a successor to SMS that adopts many of the features found in modern messaging apps… like Apple’s own iMessage.
iMessage doesn’t ‘work’ unless you’re on an Apple device. Then it’s just falling back to using SMS, at which point Apple fanboys/girls start bitching because the text bubbles are ‘the wrong color’ which it’s seriously the most ridiculous first-world problem I’ve ever heard of.
RCS is an attempt to provide similar functionality to EVERYONE without the walled-garden lock-in.
While I’d much rather a fully open (inl source), non-proprietary solution exist, until such time RCS is at least an attempt at a step in the right direction.
Insert meme: You (iMessage user) can’t use RCS because Apple won’t let you. I (Android User) can’t use iMessage because Apple won’t let me. We are not the same…
It’s not about people wanting to stop using iMessage. It’s that over half of the mobile customer base CANNOT use iMessage because apple refuses to allow it. If Apple had created a solid Android app for iMessage, RCS would never have been created.
I didn’t say it was FOSS. I said that unlike iMessage, which Apple refuses to allow Android to use, RCS is available to be used by Apple if it so chooses.
Yes, a FOSS protocol/standard would be better, and I hope we have one done day that is actually available and used by default by both iOS and Android (and any other future players in the field). But until that happens, RCS is at least allowed to be used by other companies so it’s at least a small step in the right direction, even if Apple continues to stubbornly refuse to use it.
I’ve never originally seen, heard, or read anyone complaining about the wrong color bubbles except for iMessage users.
The article is just about Samsung and Google poking fun at Apple about it.
What I want is for all of the companies to, use a common (preferably open) standard for messaging as a default. I don’t give a shit which it is.
Ideally they would all do so voluntarily because it’s the right thing to do for their users. Since Apple refuses to let anyone else use iMessage, RCS was created, and made available to be used, even by Apple.
But apparently Apple can’t be bothered to play nice with others no matter what because all they care about is squeezing every possible dollar they can out of their suckers, I mean users.
And never, ever, did anyone complain about getting the orientation wrong with DIN connectors.
Hah! Hardly. I have plenty of memories of endlessly rotating mouse and keyboard connectors as I reached behind a computer trying to insert it blindly, and somehow having to try half a dozen times before it finally found just the right orientation.
There’s also the issue on the older, large DIN connectors of pins getting bent or broken.
We moved on from those things for darn good reason, and I for one have no interest in going back.
This right here. All the UIs these days are so flat! It drives me nuts. I can’t tell where the background ends and a button begins. I’m streaming services in my Shield and Roku, I can’t tell which movie or episode is actually selected. It’s fucking infuriating.
The video is a very short news item about FEMA testing the emergency alert system this week, but that’s not what I thought people would enjoy. It’s the comments - people are going batshit insane with every conspiracy theory you can think of (and more that you never would).
I’ve paid for Relay Pro multiple times over the years, and was happy to do so. And if this subscription had been implemented as just a way to support Relay, I’d have subscribed in a heartbeat, because it’s a fantastic app and worth every penny.
But due to all the Reddit API (and other) bullshit behind it, I just can’t do it. After many, many years of happy usage, I uninstalled Relay Pro yesterday when I got the update.
As far as I’m concerned, Reddit is now only a “read-only” archive that I’ll read if a search returns old information I need, and I’ll read just the post/comment I need from an ad-blocking browser then move on elsewhere (ie. lemmy) when I want to participate in conversations.
I know it’s highly unlikely, but if dbrady ever releases a Relay for Lemmy app, I’ll pay for it.

Those nations may have people who are better at hiding their drug use or homosexuality, or more people repressing it, but that’s NOT a good thing.
They’re are crimes worth being more strict about, and crimes that shouldn’t even be crimes.
I’ll also note that being more strict about a given crime doesn’t necessarily mean just throwing them in a cell and throwing away the key. If the only response you have for someone doing something wrong is punishment, you aren’t actually going to make anything better for anyone.
Proper, and actually effective policies to deter most crimes (that are actually worth being crimes ) MUST include supporting education, public health, (both physical and mental), economic strength and balance, as well as supporting and rehabilitating those convicted of crimes, and researching the REAL factors that drive crime whether they be economic, environmental, or otherwise. For example, in the years since we stopped using leaded gas in cars, there has been a significant decrease in certain types of violent crime because we’re no longer poisoning our brains with lead. Countries with good sex education and safe, legal abortions also tend to see statistically noticable reductions in crime.
For example, after Portugal decriminalized drug use, side from the obvious reduction in drug related prison population, drug overdose deaths went down, and remain below EU average. And to this day Portugal has one of the lowest rates of drug use in the EU. So what’s the point of being’strict’ on the crime of drug use???
Money spent fighting the inequalities and injustices that lead to crimes is far more effective than money spent in punishment.
I haven’t read the text of the law, but unless it explicitly says otherwise, I suspect it will be up to the schools/districts. If they have the money and room to build separate non-gendered bathrooms, then some of them will do so. But I suspect that most will simply convert existing bathrooms and not have gender specific bathrooms at all.

Let’s not stoop to their (the right/GOP) level with the misinformation. While there may have been children present in the theater, most of the people there were adults.
There’s plenty enough wrong with what they were doing without trying to demonize them with additional lies.
