Probably because hangover severity increases exponentially as you age. A 16 year old can knock back 20 shots in a night and basically die, but wake up with no hangover.
A 40 year old can drink 3 beers and spend 2 days recovering.
Extreme examples yes, but the younger you are the less you have to worry about hangovers and how to prevent / manage them.
I tried that, we got a few auto feeders for a trip. Worked for those few days, but when we decided to stick with them, two of the cats eventually figured out how to manually dispense. I taped over the manual button, so they learned how to dig their paws in and around the inside to push the food out.
Problem there is that they were taking from the next batch that was set to dispense. The meal time would come and nothing would come out because they already ate it. They’d get mad and knock it them over, so they’d starve if I didn’t intervene.
Yeah they’re little dickheads.
I’m sure there’s more robust auto feeders but I can only learn that after my cats have had a few weeks to fuck around with them 😂
Fair, and that would probably work just fine at my current job, but I was working at a gas station and 19 years old. Very seldom would a gas station manager let an employee leave without feeling very entitled to an explanation.
Fortnight absolutely kicked off the battle Royale phase of recent years. PUBG was coming into it’s own at the same time, but is a more hardcore experience so it didn’t get the viral boom. Fortnight being free to play and fairly casual put wind in it’s sails like Minecraft had, every kid everywhere played it.
I’m used to the army, when I’m packing for field stuff, I know that no matter how much I pack for luxury my kit and equipment will still be 80% of the load minimum. Would I rather hump 80 lbs 20 miles and have a miserable night, or hump 85 lbs and have hot coffee and a single person tent I can jerk off comfortably in? Easy choice for me.
When I go hiking with my family I pretty much just carry emergency supplies and the liquor stash, knowing we’ll be back to the tents by nightfall.
Long and short, you remove weapons armor and ammo from the picture and it’s a lot more impactful to play with the weight. Shaving 5 lbs off a 20 lbs load can let you go 5 more miles when it’s for leisure.
When I get deja vu, it feels to me like I’ve dreamt of whatever is happening before, I’ve always pretty easily been able to say “oh it’s just deja vu” and move on.
But once, I woke up and told my wife about a strange dream involving very specific details of a situation with me and my brother. Along the lines of my brother throwing a beer can, it bounced off the trash can, bounced off me, then back into the trash can.
A few days later, my brother did exactly that. I was dumbstruck, even my wife was like “what the hell”
Interesting that it specifically says each phone was supposed to get one alert, and that it can tell if your phone is set to see English or Spanish and send the appropriate language. I just got two alerts a few minutes apart, in English and Spanish
She’s the sweetest cat on the planet, she doesn’t fight at all when we feed her through the tube, she even cuddled the heck out the vets when they gave her shots.
Her surgery was to correct a cleft soft palette, basically a big hole in the back of her throat connecting to her nasal passageways. Made it hard for her to eat and meow, probably hurt a lot as food would make it’s way up into her sinuses.
Normal operation for this birth defect is to put the kitten down, but she stole our hearts so completely that it was worth it to us to get her fixed 💘
Edit: A lot of people say, that GWM needs a melee weapon attack, but they miss Jesses point: While GWM requires a melee attack with a heavy weapon, Sharpshooters only criteria is an attack with a ranged weapon (not a ranged weapon attack). Jesse bases his claim on the fact, that a crossbow is still a ranged weapon, even if used...
My take on why this doesn’t work RAW is there’s a time that states “specific beats general”
When you use a crossbow as a melee weapon, it specifically belongs an improvised melee weapon for the attack, which trumps the general rule that a crossbow is ranged weapon.
I would even go so far as to say that means it doesn’t qualify for GWM either.
If I took a few hours to make an impressive AI generated price of art, that’s still %0.0001 the amount of time an actual a real artist would’ve spent developing the skill and then taking the time to make the peice. I get to skip all that because AI stole the real artists’ works.
I’m pretty specifically trying to bring to mind the time it takes to hone the skill. Photography is similar in that it takes many many hours to get to the point where you can produce a good work of art.
If an artist (or photographer) spends a couple hours on a peice, that’s not the actual amount of time needed. It takes years to reach the point where they can make art in a few hours. That’s what people are upset about, that’s why nobody cares about “it took me hours to generate a good peice!”, because it takes an artist 10,000 hours.
What AI art is doing is distilling that 10,000 hours (per artist) into a training set of 99% stolen works to allow someone with zero skill to produce a work of art in a few hours.
What’s most problematic isn’t who the copyright of the AI generated age belongs to, it’s that artists who own their own works are having it stolen to be used in a commercial product. Go to any AI image generator, and you’ll see “premium” options you can pay for. That product, that option to pay, only exists on the backs of artists who did not give licensing for their works, and did not get paid to provide the training data.
I had to install a network adapter driver the other day. Had to use my wife’s computer to download into a flash drive and bring it over to my computer with zero network connectivity.
Granted, this only happened because my network card was broken.
According to a new report from Rentals, In July, the Canadian rental market hit a record high with an average asking rent of $2,078, marking an 8.9 per cent annual increase.
I tried explaining that a little bit back, that my house is cheaper for me to own and live in, including ALL expenses, than current apartments of much smaller size, and some person (probably a landlord) engaged in a back and forth with me basically calling me a dirty liar over and over.
Thermonuclear take; the kind of work it takes to perform well in school is exactly the kind of work society is preparing kids for, so good school performance can still be a strong indication they’ll be good employees.
Wether or not our society and schools are right for that is a much more interesting topic of debate. Kids who crush it in school (and continue to crush it all the way through college) will go on to make their companies loads of money for cheap.
Or they know bragging about it on the Internet without rank to protect them will get them dogpiled.
I could just have been commanded by some softies, but officers don’t generally have the constitution to get personally attacked. Think about it, they literally wrote the rules that say enlisted can go to jail for shit talking them.
Windows user here, have used Linux here and there too:
Gaming. It’s gaming. Yes, Linux has workarounds and options, and some people are super knowledgeable and willing to go through those hoops. I’m not, not anymore.
I spent a little bit of time hunting down and eliminating W11’s annoying behaviors, and now I don’t mind it at all, and I get to just jump in games with very little hassle.
I’m pretty excited about the future of Linux gaming now that steam OS exists and Linux is a super viable target for developers, though
Not even just that. My dad didn’t go to college, he joined the military at 18. He walked away from that and landed an engineering job with no degree. Now, he’s in a position that would ask for a masters minimum making nearly 300k a year.
I joined the military and walked away with bad knees and a list of phone numbers to get a job in the trades. Don’t get me wrong, I took it, but damn I’m sure as hell not making anything near what he was at my age.
Depends on a lot of things. I started an apprenticeship machining, and now I want to turn my garage into a machine shop.
I think the important thing is that you make sure you keep some of it for you.
If I did turn my garage into a machine shop, it would be tempting to start taking orders. That’s where my hobby would turn into more work, having to meet orders and timelines.
My biggest head scratcher now that I’ve bought a house is “huh, my mortgage is locked in now, no matter what the market does… Why did rent keep going up if my landlord’s mortgages were locked in?”
I honestly don’t have a good answer, I could be looking at something perfectly explainable. But to me it seemed like they raised rent not because costs went up, but because they could. Why not. Everybody else is doing it.
A few hundred a month less. I’m not suddenly drowning in money, obviously, but it’s interesting paying less for much more, and that money actually benefitting my net worth vs being flushed down the toilet
Yeah, the only reason anybody says that is because we’re so desensitized by pay-to-win mechanics and games being released half finished with day 1 dlc to fill the gaps, so we say “at least it’s better than that”
Remember horse armor? I bet there’s plenty of video games out now with cosmetic horse armor for sale.
True! And that’s probably why we use base 10, also we have 10 fingers. But that’s usually the argument for base 12. I think we do ok using it in just certain cases, like time and inches.
I’ve found that playing over internet makes it all much easier. A 3 hour session means 3 hours, instead of 3 hours plus motivation to get out of the house and travel times
Without knowing what fight you stopped at it’s hard to really talk about your experience, but I promise you don’t need to know a fight is coming or cheese the fight. There’s a point where the fights just click for you and become easier. There’s also plenty of content you can go to instead to level up, if you’re under leveled.
There’s only 1 fight I can think of that’s balls to three weeks nuts (the Blackpits) and my brother and I still beat it legitimately, just took like 6 attempts.
Fair. All things considered though, my friend who couldn’t get through DOSII has been begging me to get the BG3 early access with him. So without playing it, it seems more approachable!!!
The thing I like most about the fediverse, unlike reddit, is that people are genuinely posting things they care about or like, rather than posting to be a karma whore. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve posted in reddit and it instantly gets stolen and used in another sub simply to get easy karma. It’s refreshing to not...
It’s just a case of different opinions, I think. Or perhaps they think reddit having 100’s of millions of users is creating the problems, and that they won’t exist here if those same voices came to Lemmy. But I would mostly just say it’s two different groups of people asking for two different things.
I’m in the boat that Lemmy has fully replaced reddit for me and I don’t feel the need to go convincing more people to jump ship. The people who cared about the health of Reddit as a platform have already come to Lemmy, the people who don’t, or need the massive userbase to use a website? They can stay there.
Music streaming is just … Objectively better for everybody. Small bands can be heard, hence the indy scene booming so hard, consumers can access their content anywhere there’s internet.
I think you miss the ritual around getting physical media and having a session where you just sit back and listen to the album for the first time. You could try to replicate it, but I think child-like wonder was the main ingredient ;)
