Apple Argued Safari Is Three Different Browsers to Avoid Regulation in EU (www.macrumors.com)

It has now emerged that after being informed that Safari was likely to fall under the DMA’s regulations, Apple filed formal a response to the European Union claiming that Safari is, in fact, “three distinct web browsers.” The company’s claim is based on the argument that Safari for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS are entirely...

bedrooms,

On example cited by Apple is Safari’s sidebar feature on iPadOS and macOS, allowing users to see opened tabs, tab groups, bookmarks, and browsing history.

I think this is why Safari is one browser. In my eyes, Chromium-based browsers are distinct enough. Yet if Safari's difference is mere sidebar... you don't claim those three to be distinct browsers.

I really tried to visit the main instance regularly, which was hosted by the developer. But the latest video was 1 month old and every video there targeted a niche I don't care.

bedrooms,

When all these autocrats have a point while leaders of main western democracies "stand in solidarity" with Bibi the genocider. And this is just a fact, no propaganda, smh...

bedrooms,

Never forget: “Embrace, Extend, Extinguish”, even if it’s from a relatively liked company like Mozilla.

If you take that view, you will never be satisfied by the official motivation expressed by a non-profit organization. That's the reason you don't see why – you are refusing. But are you wrong? Only Mozilla knows.

bedrooms,

I think so. They don't even have the server to store Firefox user credentials.

bedrooms, (edited )

I guess what that slide meant was not what the author thought.

Well, yes, Android is a "massive tracking device", but Google Search is not the culprit. Android apps were able to collect user data easily because they didn't have to ask for users' permission (and even today, by using an old Android API iirc).

So, no, I don't trust Apple, but that slide is probably irrelevant.

bedrooms,

Yeah, but you can distribute your app outside and the official store then

bedrooms,

Tbf there are non-militarily ways to bring down a country. Like election meddling and so on.

bedrooms,

They thought either they're going to teach a lesson or they'll enjoy the chaos.

I think they achieved both but not in the way they thought.

bedrooms,

Wrong. Gaetz started the voting process and Dems could have voted no to keep McCarthy.

This particular comment of mine is not saying they should have.

bedrooms,

I'm tired of the echo chamber the internet people throw to us. They can't even see a point if it has an ounce of anti-norm.

Yeah, but if Ukraine end up unfunded that'd be too big a price.
And I'm not even sure if Dems' naivety this time is working well for Dems.

bedrooms,

Can you explain to me why it's dishonest? I believe I'm just stating facts.

Edit: What I mean is that I just corrected what OP wrote.

bedrooms,

It’s dishonest because the Republicans both initiated the vote to remove McCarthy

This is what I wrote

and had the numbers to reelect him.

This is in accordance with what I wrote: Dems could've reelected McCarthy.

While you are correct democrats could have voted for McCarthy,

Right? And

I’m not really sure why they should/wpuld as he had already reneged on budgetary issues

As I clarified in that comment, I was not saying they should.

So, you're not disagreeing with me, are you? I therefore don't see why I'm criticized.

bedrooms, (edited )

Wait, it's not like OP criticized Trump and I said "but Hillary".

The OP's argument was wrong. It was not Mat Gaetz' "vote". Dems did choose to oust McCarthy.

That's not "both side". I just corrected OP.

Edit: the context is that Rs votes split exactly as expected. Dems knew the expectation and chose to oust McCarthy. That's a fact.

bedrooms,

You're just shouting "dishonest". Can you tell me exactly which part of my text is dishonest? It feels as if you're in tribalism where you label any inconvenient fact as dishonesty and move on to protect yourself.

bedrooms,

Not end of story. Rs against McCarthy didn't reach majority.

bedrooms,

As I wrote, Rs against McCarthy didn't reach majority.

So, would you please take back that insult? Should I explain further what you don't understand here?

bedrooms,

Can you explain to me why my comment equated to "I didn’t punch him, I was just swinging my arms wildly and they put their face in the path of my fist"?

I don't see how.

bedrooms,

If you don't explain, please understand that I'm not interested in what emoji you use.

bedrooms, (edited )

I actually (mostly) agree with that. I know conservatives are bad. Can you finally explain to me why you equated my comment to "I didn't punch him..."?

Wait, I think I'm too tired now as it's late in the night here. I'll reply tomorrow if I find the motivation.

bedrooms,

I think you assume I'm pro-Republican. I'm actually not.

We can agree that Republicans are the cause of this problem.

I was just correcting OP's comment. I clarified that further in some of the comments here.

In the original comment, I even wrote that I'm not suggesting Ds are to be blamed.

bedrooms,

I understand what you say, but in this particular instance I'd like to live with the view that both semantics holds, due to the following criterion on my side.

The perception by some newspaper I read outside the US was that Gaetz & co. was a small minority rightwing and everybody didn't want to play his childish game.

You say it was predictable that Dems would vote against a Republican Speaker, and that indeed turned out to be the case. However, at the same time Dems essentially voted together with Gaetz and that was a bit surprising to me and that newspaper.

bedrooms,

Well, thank god, I occasionally find someone with reading skills here.

bedrooms,

The second one makes no sense to me

bedrooms,

There's no point raising a metaphor in the first place. A metaphor doesn't justify anything. It's just a rhetorical tool that is supposed to help deliver a point. However, all it does in this instance is mess and draw confusion.

bedrooms,

Maybe we'll even call it a western variant of North Korea in the end. All autocrats head to NK apparently.

bedrooms,

Nah, news organizations aren't internet echo chamber.

I mean, if they write dozens of opinions a day, news organizations labeled center-left or even left-leaning have to go to the other side sometimes. If not, they're just propaganda machines.

bedrooms, (edited )

At this point I suspect it's a new scam. These people are clearly deliberately not paying their lawyers. Once the lawyers are done, they move on to new ones.

I'm wondering whether the lawyers are complicit – I guess not. But I honestly have no idea whether Trump & co. are generating profits through this scheme.

Edit: so, one way to establish a scam in this way is for the lawyers to demonstrate how they'd defend other conservatives. By defending people around Trump, these lawyers, for example, might be introduced to potential conservative clients. When they find enough clients they call it a day, and cancel the contract with the powerful people who don't pay them.

bedrooms,

Yes I agree it's misleading (and I'm OP). The first paragraph especially.

"It breaks my heart to see children around me strive for a cup of clean water and cannot find it:" Gaza has become a graveyard for thousands of children, Unicef says (www.unicef.org)

Unicef Spokesperson James Elder calls for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in the Israel-Palestine war. “Gaza must be opened for the safe, sustained and unimpeded access of humanitarian aid, including water, food, medical supplies, and fuel,” he says.

bedrooms,

Yes

bedrooms,

I understand Dems couldn't trust McCarthy. But them nominating (and voting, was it?) a Dem who has no chance of becoming Speaker was just... irresponsible. And as a result of this kind of Dems' poor negotiation even with relatively moderate Republicans, the House elected this MAGAt.

(I think I read Dems called for Republicans to vote for their Dem candidate... If that's true then that's like an elementary school level incident in my eyes.)

bedrooms,

I know Rs were worse. I know they are a BAD and EVIL. I still want Ds to do better.

Boy... I wonder how old this author is.

They wrote 7MB is impressively small, but they also wrote that it was in 1984. And I guess 7MB in 1984 is likely big... I've heard of computers in the 80s with kilobytes of RAM.

Especially if it's 7MB source code after compressing it into zip.

bedrooms,

Definitely there's something like

You really shouldn't put "western" there because it suggests stereotyping, and I'm saying this as a Japanese.
