As a great though experiment start to write to yourself from there and then take on the personality of that person and respond.

What would they say to you? Obviously things go wrong in every universe so how does that alternate universe you mentally frame issues. What decisions do they make when faced with choice.

( trying this with bard led me to being a cyborg this made me like AI more and trust it less)

I run a homelab and have no trouble finding enthusiasts who go super in-depth about how to use the hardware and software. Where are the good Apple ecosystem enthusiasts?

So as the title says, I run a homelab with various technologies — Proxmox, Home Assistant, a reverse proxy, lots of Ubiquiti equipment, and so on. Over the years I’ve consumed countless hours of articles, stack overflow posts, youtube channels, and knowledge bases to keep myself up to speed on how to use this equipment and...

atempuser23,

“I’ve noticed that the Apple equipment has far less documentation on the whole.” Since the ios/macOS are closed source it’s falls more on Apple to provide documentation. Most of the good Apple resources are the programming references(developer.apple.com).

Signing up as an Apple developer is a good way to get access to lots of information on ios/mac specific items. Most of home lab type stuff is going to be an adaptation of a 'nix process.

It’s frustrating since the programming references aren’t really great resources on how to do something though the UI. You have to figure out how the functionality you want is exposed.

“Am I just in a weird bubble where 95% of the people in my life are politically and philosophically dipshits?”

Yes. You are absolutely in the wrong places talking to the wrong people. It sounds like it is rubbing off on you.

He paid 44bln and hasn’t even changed twitter.com yet. Don’t expect him to pay up.

atempuser23,

Morbius It wasn’t bad enough to finish or good enough to enjoy. Never said it was Morbin time. It had Dr. Who so there was that.

atempuser23,

No one liked it. But I only watched it because of all the memes.

Like there had to be something at least worth making fun of. Nope. It just kinda sucked till I turned it off.

atempuser23,

Yes.

atempuser23,

$8 buys a container of instant coffee and a single cappuccino is $6.

I’d love Starbucks everyday.I drink instant coffee, because money.

Sort of like asking with restaurants around everywhere does anyone bother to cook. It’s awesome but cup noodles will hit the spot as well.

Houston approves $5M to relocate residents living near polluted Union Pacific rail yard (apnews.com)

Residents and local officials have long blamed the high number of cancer cases on contamination from a rail yard originally owned by Southern Pacific and later bought by Union Pacific near two historically Black neighborhoods, Fifth Ward and Kashmere Gardens. The wood preservative creosote, which has been associated with an...

atempuser23,

That’s not very much money at all to relocate people. This is maybe enough for 25 households.

atempuser23,

where are you getting a home for less than 170k?

atempuser23,

Nope. Looks like I missed the line where the total funds are 35 million. 350k is enough to get a house and move an established family.

atempuser23,

If you Mace someone you had better take them down. Without distance the mace may be a danger to you as much or more than the attacker.

atempuser23,

This could be the start of something good. The 40% number isn’t out of thin air. It is the amount the CEO got his pay raised to . Unions can tie exec raises to worker pay in a way that boards aren’t doing.

atempuser23,

True, but unions as an external force can simply state the exec total pay package rose by 25% in value. “pay us” The problem has been looking to the boards installed by investors to cut their own pay. My hope is boards will cool down on huge exec bonuses if it means they may have to do the same for workers.

atempuser23,

The wire element is the same that is used in a vape pen. You could splice over the broken area.

atempuser23,

Get boots made for construction workers. They are on their feet and in boots all day. I got a pair of redwings a few decades ago and they were my daily walking shoes until I got a car.

atempuser23,

I though that this did come to light before. Is this title missing an ‘Again’

atempuser23,

It’s a total lack of the concept of scale. I’ve moved servers like this, but when decommissioning them. Things are different when running a corporate data center than when moving a home lab. He doesn’t grasp the difference, because he doesn’t understand the scale.

Running and moving one computer is different from 150k of them. Hooking them back up the the network without a plan or documentation must have been a challenge.

Therapy and anti-depressants

atempuser23,

Depends on the person or the medicine. So your results may vary. Basically anti-depressants for me lessen the impact of depression. So when the idea pops into your head that that is negative or self doubting it’s easier to reflect and evaluate if that thought is correct or not. As well it helps with break negativity chains where something goes wrong and a bad mood continues for several events. That is a confidence killer.

atempuser23,

This is going to absolutely devastate Florida. They need as many people as possible to do work, simply not enough workers live in Florida to rebuild it after a massive weather event. Anything that prevent workers from entering Florida means anyone working in Florida can charge more.

This may actually sink Desantas as a presidential candidate. There are more storms on the way. a slightly damaged house can become unlivable if subsequent events.

atempuser23,

There is strong gerrymandering going on there. That form of vitoing ensures the most extreme rise to the top since the other views never have enough votes to tip an election.

atempuser23,

Even then there was a lot of ‘off book’ work done by people who could do the job. Basically smaller jobs there would be easily knocked out, and less profitable have to wait for an official company to acknowledge them or just get someone. Small damages can become big problems if not fixed before the next storm.

atempuser23,

I love how Russia public military success plan involves the US getting bored of funneling money to defense contractors without any US or US contractor loss of life.

Good luck with that.

atempuser23,

I bet Trump thinks about them a bit. Every day Trump isn’t in the White House he is reminded that they are failures. Zero surprise if they never get parole if Trump makes the WH.

atempuser23,

Isn’t that just a missile? Is the difference that it doesn’t need a launcher?

atempuser23,

Unfortunately Russia needs to be broken. There was an uneasy acceptance of the 2014 annexation of lands. That was simply used as a launching off point for the current campaign.

There is no way to let them save face and nothing other than a full defeat can be trusted. At this point the wars in the main territory are only to hold on to Crimea and keep the fighting from the last warm water port for the Russian navy.

More than an embarrassment it would be a real and severe blow to the future of Russia for decades to centuries. Once the port falls, there will be no reason at all for Russia to care for Crimea.

This is even a bigger fuck up than it appears. Putin owns the biggest military failure since Germany invaded Russia.

All Putin had to do is put up a beach front villa in Crimea, trade with Europe and enjoy the ill-gotten gains of 2014. The western world would have accepted him with open arms. There is no victory to be won, only lesser losses to be groped at.

atempuser23,

Having seen this happen before, I believed that once. Russia is going to break into pieces that will be seized by the most corrupt. The people of Russia just want a comfortable life and will follow the leader that gives them the closest approximation of that.

atempuser23,

I hope that you are correct. I feel different. Your hopeful attitude has a better chance at a positive outcome then mine.

Why is everyone so giddy about the flooding thay happened at burning man?

Social media seems to be laughing its ass off about this tragedy, is it because the folks at burning man are perceived as frivolous hippies or something? Everyone I’ve ever met who was a regular burning man attendee has been a solid human being with strong morals, personally and financially responsible, a career. Upstanding...

atempuser23,

Yes.

People always judge personal waste as something they don’t enjoy. It’s fun to hate on people who enjoy things.

I have never went but the people I know who go have been going so long that their kids are bringing their kids. It sounds like a great community event where most of the point is to meet the people who go there.

The desert is usually a good place to host a mass event since it is a flat large area. By definition rain is rare in a desert.

atempuser23,

This creates an incentive to let high earners:wealthy people :off the hook for jail time since they will have to earn money to pay for the support. This of course won’t apply to lower earners which will go to jail.

atempuser23,

The crux of the issue is they think they won’t hurt anyone. They give 0 thought to the idea they would hurt some. That’s how this happens. Any person who thinks they might hurt someone won’t drive. They gain false confidence by drive many times without incident.

I don’t think a single drink drive ever considered that they would hurt some or get hurt.

atempuser23,

They can help when your body is under stress, illness, dieting, moderate exercise. otherwise the don’t do much.

atempuser23,

This is an absolutely epic article from the BBC.

atempuser23,

Basically the holy trinity is the idea that Jesus,God and the Holy Spirit are all aspects of the same being. They are not independent of each other.

In Lovecraftian terms the full extent of God is an eldritch being is so incomprehensible that it would break mortals if he appears directly to them. Jesus and the Holy spirit are two ways that god can interact with mortals without them, or the universe, breaking. They are not lesser separate gods .

atempuser23,

It’s very inline with the church’s teaching to pay taxes.

Mark 12:17 Then Jesus said to them, “Give to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and give to God the things that are God’s.” The men were amazed at what Jesus said.

There is no religious conflict at all with taxing churches.

atempuser23,

The concepts of racism was quite different then as to now and was addressed. Basically the story of the 'Good Samaritan" needed to add the ‘good’ because Samaritans were discriminated against and though of as poorly as racists do today.

Homophobia is basically covered in a bunch of places where in general you are supposed to love and treat people well. Jesus gave MANY examples of directly treating people who were not in good social, or religious, graces with kindness, openness and compassion. Basically the worse someone is the more you have to try and show love. I’m not sure at all how basically the complete opposite is the practice. There is some epic level mental gymnastics to get there.

Now slavery, umm… yeah. God was like , here are some rules on how to treat your slaves. You know because that is a thing and should keep being one. I’m glad this one is opposite in practice.

atempuser23,

Ever have a dog? You really love the dog and the dog is smart for a dog, but no matter how hard you train them they won’t really understand you. You can get them to follow a few rules , but after a certain point you can’t really train them much more.

People can’t even handle the few very basic messages that were already laid out.

atempuser23,

This is in a thread about a sect of Christianity. I am not aware of another religion that uses the word church. The dictionary definition is christian house of worship. Jewish Synagogue. Islamic Mosque. Hindu Temple. Norse Hof. Greek and Roman temples.

Talking about taxing churches is about a tax on Christian houses of worship. There is no Christian religious rule against it, which means that it would be a stretch for anyone to claim that the government is violating the first amendment.

atempuser23,

Since this needs to last for 2 years you can add a thin epoxy layer to perfectly smooth out the surface and make it hospitable.

atempuser23,

Without a real sill and a slope on the outside your going to have water intrusion. Add a gutter/diverter above the door on the roof. Remove all the sealer you can. Use waterproof concrete sealer/paint on the slab. Fill every gap you can with silicone. Shave down the slab with an angle grinder to add some kind of slope.

If the concrete applier ‘forgot’ to add a slope to the outside see if they will help with the remedy.

atempuser23,

Maybe? When it rains you need to move lots of water fast. It’d need to be a serious channel

atempuser23,

They get less solar. If you only have 10k buy a 10k system. Systems can be expanded later on.

Otherwise people get loans.
