To be fair most people saying "[android/OEM skin] looks like iOS" also don't know how iOS looks, they just think that having squircles and blur is being an iOS clone
The author of the article bragged on twitter that he photoshopped the picture to make it seem like a bug. The unedited picture is also a screenshot from the old build of the game.
It's 100% misleading, the author just wants to rage-bait.
A new EU law will require all mobile devices to have user-replaceable batteries by 2027. In this episode we take a look at the law, it's consequences and right to repair.
The tech community quickly jumps to conclusions without actually reading anything. The last I check it, the law only allowed for certified repair shops to disassemble and repair phones with their tools, without needing something specialized from the OEM or any extra activation steps, but people jumped to the conclusion that the average Joe could entirely dismantle their phone with a screwdriver from the comfort of their home.
The “Quick Panel” [...] in terms of the look, it’s a pretty shameless copy of iOS’ Control Center
What is the penchant for these journalists to say everything looks/is copied from Apple? The quick settings menu looks nothing like iOS control center, unless they're talking about both having buttons and a blurred background. Also I believe Samsung's design is older than Apple's, at least first iterations of it.
There's always the under-the-hood changes from Android upstream, and Samsung keeps adding customization options every update. Without rooting or 3rd party apps*, no other OEM comes close to OneUI's customizability. For me, that's a huge plus.
*I meant specifically 3rd party apps, because Samsung has the Good Lock suite of apps, which needs to be installed from the store. They work somewhat as a beta testing of features or advanced controls for existing features, and many of the features are added to new updates, for instance, the quick settings easy access up to One UI 5.1 (Android 13) is only available via Good Lock's Quick Star module, but seems to be built-in on One UI 6 (Android 14)
I think this is a rare time that Google remembers the rest of the world exists. In here in Hungary, android 13, and the setting was available and was already on.
To me, it seems objectively easier to pull into a parking space forward and then back out of the space when you are ready to leave. You don’t have to line up with the lines while driving backwards, and it’s easier to keep from hitting other cars as well. So why back in? To me, the only advantage I can think of is that you...
The way Empress writes things and the stuff they say fits perfectly into the basement dwelling neckbeard stereotype. There's not a chance in this universe that Empress is a woman.
I think one of the biggest issues with FOSS-minded people is that they automatically consider open source software private, safe and having good intentions in mind, but they never actually go beyond the surface to check if it actually is.
It seems like OneUI 6 is coming soon. However with the screenshots of the control centre UI, it seems like the ‘one handed’ UI focus is disappearing as more UI elements are brought higher…
There's a very vocal Samsung-hating bandwagon on every Android related community. Generally these people never used a Samsung device before or they're Pixel fanboys and bloat is everything that's not made by Google and just want to embrace the barebonesness of AOSP.
I was planning on paying a rogue, paladin, or warlock (based on my tabletop characters), but this article nearly has me convinced. I am waiting for the PS5 release, so any agreement or dissension from my PC friends? Other class recommendations?...
The sheer number of high level enemies and bosses I've killed as a Warlock with one hit of my Eldritch Blast charged with Repelling Blast that throws them down a pit begs to differ. There's no ukulele strumming or bongos banging that'll top the fun and laughs I have every time I see an enemy relatively close to a big fall.
Other than that, the game is VERY generous with healing items and options all around. There's so many dialogue options which gave me DC 5 or less to pass, along with many inspiration sources that you'll barely need Bard's "essential" skills.
I don't know how much Larian has changed BG3 from the classical tabletop, but it feels like everything is the same. To be fair, just pick the class and race you most like and play it, ignore all the minmaxing gatekeepers and articles like this, just have your own fun and come to your own conclusions.
How is it for role-playing? I think that was my favorite part with the character I had.
I have about 30 hours and I haven't even left the first area, but from what I've seen, you never go long without a dialogue choice with a skill/race/class check. The charisma and wisdom based checks are constant, so my Warlock is always useful no matter what.
When you play with a controller, the UI is completely different. Menus are simpler; you control your character movement with the left stick, camera rotation and zoom (from third person, perspective and tactical view) with the right stick; you don't have a hotbar with your skills, instead you access everything with the shoulder buttons that open a radial menu; you can use the dpad to change what your target is (enemies, items, world clutter).
In general, you can play the game without any problems with a controller.
Samsung hasn't fixed it, because there's nothing to fix, as this is Google's intention. The gestures work but are very finnicky and the animations are laggy or don't play at all. Xiaomi decided that they don't want this so they disabled gestures with third party launchers.
One should be at the bottom one at the top. I understand space on the phone is a premium but a second port would make the phone so much more usable. Wired headphones, flash drives, camera modules, speaker modules, keyboards, even connection to a TV, all could be used while charging. It’s a shame it’s not a thing, USB is...
If this is anything like the first EU decision and how it is worded, people are vastly overstating what it actually means. The important part about that one decision is that devices with water protection should only be serviceable by certified professionals, which should include the manufacturer's repairmen and third parties, but not the end user. On the removable batteries part, having pull tabs already suffice the requirements, the batteries just can't be glued down requiring alcohol or other prying methods to remove.
GHUB likes to wipe my keybinds and onboard settings every few weeks for no reason, and then sometimes it just completely refuses to open, so I have to reinstall the program just so I can reconfigure everything again.
Edit : i was ignorant when i posted this however i think it is still safe to say that internet in most 3rd countries is bad or expensive in comparison to their income
It's funny how out of touch with reality Americans are.
Here in Brazil I'm paying around 20 USD for fiber optic 1000mbps down and 500mbps up without data caps. Brazilian law also only considers piracy a crime if there's profit (i.e. trying to sell a movie I've downloaded), so there's no need to hide anything.
Editing for more information:
My home internet speeds almost never drop below 90%, there's also a law that requires ISPs to deliver at least 80% of what was paid for. You can easily port forward, there are no blocks or anything. We also have dynamic IPs, but you can easily get around that by using a DDNS.
My mobile plan is around $15, I get 45GB monthly with 5G at no extra cost (5G gets around 300-600mbps down depending on the time of the day), unlimited calling to any number in the country, unlimited SMS (nobody uses SMS though), and for roaming I get 1GB daily internet and 1 hour daily calling with no extra cost.
All of this is cheap and very accessible to everyone.
I have never heard about this here in Latin America. If you want to port forward you can easily do it via your router, even the ISP's provided ones. There's also nothing stopping you from using the ISP router only as a bridge and handling everything from your own router, the ISP router only needs to receive the internet and nothing more.

The only thing about being connectable is that we have dynamic IPs, but you can easily solve that with DDNS
While the salaries and economic power in Brazil are a lot lower than the US, our internet and phone plans are a lot cheaper, accessible and provide a better service than most of the US, that still stuck in data caps, feature blocking and low speeds.
I always disliked Gnome because of this and also because it seems like the developers want to force their tastes and use cases to everyone else. You either learn to work their way, or move out. That's one of the many things I like about KDE, despite the devs having their preferred default way of doing things, they leave options for the users to decide in an easy way (i.e. having everything in the settings menu, without needing to download and install a separate program or manually editing config files)
Unfortunately this little browser called Firefox has an insignificant amount of user share and pretty much no say in anything. While they might take privacy and ad blocking very seriously, they don't take feedback and their users seriously at all, being very aimed at the "let's make our userbase even smaller" after each decision or change.
Also, Firefox is only faster than Chrome on synthetic tests on Windows 10, not reflecting real world usage in any shape or form, and on Android it's just comically slower than any other browser available.
And as a disclaimer, I'm a Firefox user for ever 10 years now, but I fully understand that while we might win some battles here or there, the war is already lost and it's only a matter of time now. I'm also getting really tired of all the upkeep Firefox demands of me to be usable by my standards and all of Mozilla's shenanigans.
I use it every day to browse Kbin, the only extension I have is Greasemonkey with KES and Redirect Amp to HTML scripts. My adblocking is done via NextDNS for a system wide blocking. For everything else I use Samsung Internet, and now I'm trying out Vivaldi, and the difference is astounding. Firefox takes at least 10 seconds to start loading any page, it lags to a halt when scrolling and it constantly thinks I'm trying to pull to refresh (yes I know it can be disabled).
The rule of thumb for comments like OP's is that either they've last used a Samsung phone back in TouchWiz days and still think that the software and hardware are the same, or they've never used a Samsung phone and just hopped on the Samsung-hating bandwagon for internet points.
Either way screams of Pixel fanboyism and gatekeeping

That's not how it works on real life. Sure you can invite a handful of people there, but they won't last because their friends aren't there, every one is on WhatsApp
Isn't this a Hanlon's razor issue? Probably someone working support being in charge of tweeting just didn't know what the actual policy was, or didn't understand it and just tweeted something without thinking of the repercusion?
And to clarify, I'm not defending Ubisoft. Despite being a big corp and big corps always act out of malice and greed, a corporation is not just one person
On synthetic tests on Windows 10/11, sure, but on real world usage it's quite clear the Firefox is on the slow end of the stick, on Windows, Mac, Linux and specially Android
