Rinox, to technology in Thunderbird 115 "Supernova" launched

is that too much to ask?

Let’s say it’s a lot to ask, especially when the app also needs to be crossplatform and behave functionally the same on all platforms.

Maybe it could be done, in theory, with a lot of work, but it’s definitely not at all an easy task, especially for a project that seemed dead and buried just a few years ago and with just a handful of volunteer devs.

Most crossplatform apps that I can think of don’t really look like native apps in any system. I’m thinking of Chromium, VSCode, Discord, Steam etc.

The only one I can think of right now is Whatsapp, but I’m pretty sure they actually developed three independent apps and maintain all three, for Android, iOS and Windows. They all look and feel like native apps because they are. Please tell me if I’m wrong.

Still, you can’t expect all, or even most developers to do something like that, especially when you start including all the different DEs and themes and so on.

Rinox, to nostupidquestions in Why all of a sudden tech companies are not being favorable to their users?

I think it’s a consequence of higher interest rates drying up VC money, meaning that tech companies now have to actually be profitable, rather than just grow.

If the plan was grow now, profit later, then later has come

Rinox, to worldnews in China on course to hit wind and solar power target five years ahead of time

Great, as long as it actually works and reduces pollution. I’ve seen enough videos out of China of people spray painting fields of rocks to make them appear like green fields and fleets of electric cars left to rot, all in order to meet targets, that I’m a bit jaded when it comes to great achievements coming from China.

If it actually works though, that’s awesome. China is one of the most polluting countries in the world, if they can reduce their impact even a bit, that’s going to have great consequences.

Rinox, to memes in The Zuck after getting pre-rejected from Mastodon and Lemmy

It didn't work because thousands of people put in lots of work to make sure it wouldn't work. The fear was justified, we just managed to band together and stop that.

It's like with Y2K or the ozone layer issues. It's not that they weren't important, it's that many many people put in the work to fix them before they got a point where we were fucked.

Rinox, to memes in I love winter

That's more a function of where you live, really. For instance, I prefer summer cause you can go out and do things, go to the beach, to mountains, to the lake, eat outside and stay out until late with lots of light.

But I guess in India winter is not that harsh (at least not on the Himalayas) and probably more enjoyable than in other parts of the world.

Rinox, to worldnews in Ukraine Blocks Journalists From Front Lines With Escalating Censorship

"Ukraine calls for media silence ahead of counteroffensive"

Media: can we broadcast form the front lines?

Ukraine: no?

Rinox, to worldnews in Early stages of Ukrainian counteroffensive ‘not meeting expectations,’ Western officials tell CNN

And now, if you even try to mention peace, you are Putin’s shill.

No, you don't. You are Putin's shill if you mention peace only at Russian conditions. I'd welcome a peace where Russia leaves the occupied territories forever and stops waging war, the people of Donbass, both of Russian ethnicity and Ukranian ethnicity, get more autonomy, Tatars can go back to Crimea, Russians can vote democratically and have independent media, talk and protest without going to jail and all in all live better.

I'm against war and if everyone just lived in peace, I'd be much much happier.

Rinox, to worldnews in Early stages of Ukrainian counteroffensive ‘not meeting expectations,’ Western officials tell CNN

the people of the donbass and luhansk voted to join russia and have been killed by ukranian artilliary for many years let them follow the will of democracy

Also Kiyv right? Because Russians tried to take that too you know And the rest of the country for that matter. And depose the democratically elected president. But yeah, tell me now, Zelensky is fascist satanist gay and other epitomes you'll parrot straight from Putler's lips.

The fact of the matter is, Russia invaded Ukraine like Nazi Germany did with Czechoslovakia and Poland, using the pretext of "protecting ethnic minorities" like Nazi Germany did and will be sent back, like Nazi Germany.

But sure, let Russia pursue peace in "good faith" and let them "liberate" cities by turning them to glass floors.

Make it to the death!

Rinox, to worldnews in Ukraine counter-offensive actions have begun, Zelensky says

Yeah, exactly. Those who didn’t consider themselves Russians have been purged long ago, forcibly deported and driven out from their lands since the early Soviet times.

Tatars and Ukrainians have been targets of ethnic cleansing since a long time in Crimea, and therefore Russia should be granted the land as a prize. Just like with Koenigsberg Kaliningrad, it’s very easy, if you kill and deport everyone in an area, then that area is yours.
