I saw this screenshot ages ago yeah

The problem is the /. Usually you’d use a fraction bar, which groups it and makes it unambiguous

ReveredOxygen,
@ReveredOxygen@sh.itjust.works avatar

But subtraction and division are not associative. Any time you work on paper, 2 - 2 - 2 would equal -2. That is, (2-2)-2=0-2=-2. If you evaluate right to left, you get 2-2-2=2-(2-2)=2-0=2

@ReveredOxygen@sh.itjust.works avatar

if you’ve touched polynomials ever, you’d expect the exponent to be before the negation. If you write x³-x² you don’t mean x³ + (-x)² = x³+x², you mean x³-(x²)

ReveredOxygen,
@ReveredOxygen@sh.itjust.works avatar

Yes but I don’t believe that’s relevant?

ReveredOxygen,
@ReveredOxygen@sh.itjust.works avatar

So does anything other than policy actually prevent you from doing so?

ReveredOxygen,
@ReveredOxygen@sh.itjust.works avatar

if you click read more, it mentions that it can’t be made to work with firefox

ReveredOxygen,
@ReveredOxygen@sh.itjust.works avatar

so don’t translate that file

ReveredOxygen,
@ReveredOxygen@sh.itjust.works avatar

Wayland limits me more than I’d like, with no global hotkeys and general low hackability. The only thing keeping me on it is the fact that I can’t figure out how to get fractional scaling on gnome xorg (also on fedora on a framework)

ReveredOxygen,
@ReveredOxygen@sh.itjust.works avatar

…who thought that was a good idea

ReveredOxygen,
@ReveredOxygen@sh.itjust.works avatar

I do, but then it’s too easy to confuse with absolute value. Beats confusing it with 7 though

ReveredOxygen,
@ReveredOxygen@sh.itjust.works avatar

well if you stroke through a zero, it’s too easy to confuse with an empty set

ReveredOxygen,
@ReveredOxygen@sh.itjust.works avatar

empty set

ReveredOxygen,
@ReveredOxygen@sh.itjust.works avatar

The random site is their lemmy instance’s pictrs. Randall doesn’t care about reposting, and this is nicer since you don’t have to leave lemmy

ReveredOxygen,
@ReveredOxygen@sh.itjust.works avatar

Eh sure to totally get rid of it, but taking it off GitHub would get rid of 90%

ReveredOxygen,
@ReveredOxygen@sh.itjust.works avatar

the titles are tradition but not a rule. it’s called 196 because it’s a descendent of 195. why was it called 195? 195 was created by a college student as a social experiment, and 195 was their room number. they shut down 195 when they graduated, so 196 was created

ReveredOxygen,
@ReveredOxygen@sh.itjust.works avatar

no active /c/sbeve, what a shame

ReveredOxygen,
@ReveredOxygen@sh.itjust.works avatar

the shell expands it to rm -fr /bin /etc /usr /home /dev and so on. rm never sees the /, so the safety doesn’t trigger

ReveredOxygen,
@ReveredOxygen@sh.itjust.works avatar

trying to remove ULTRAFRENCH is a fool’s errand

(for reference, the 3-letter ISO code is NLD)

Where to get Minecraft for Arch Linux from?

Arrrr my fellow pirates. Since I’m very unexperienced with the seas I ask for you guys, where can I get Minecraft from for Arch Linux. It’s not because I’m not willing to pay 20€ but because Microsoft is a giant bitch and I’m not willing to put money in their mouth(especially after they changed their privacy policy).

ReveredOxygen,
@ReveredOxygen@sh.itjust.works avatar

Not PolyMC, PollyMC. Two different projects, PollyMC is now based on Prism

ReveredOxygen,
@ReveredOxygen@sh.itjust.works avatar

the original post talks about pacman

ReveredOxygen,

But there are people who think VR is worthwhile. If 40% of those people get sick from it, then that’s 40% of the users gone

ReveredOxygen,
@ReveredOxygen@sh.itjust.works avatar

In this case, it’s not really on OP; that’s what Randall puts in the xkcd alt text. There is a transcription for each comic on explainxkcd that ppl could copy to the post though

ReveredOxygen,
@ReveredOxygen@sh.itjust.works avatar

They’re saying they don’t exist

ReveredOxygen,
@ReveredOxygen@sh.itjust.works avatar

he used the 100th one to take the picture

ReveredOxygen,
@ReveredOxygen@sh.itjust.works avatar

Can you show me a single engine agnostic game? I don’t see how that’s even remotely feasible

ReveredOxygen,
@ReveredOxygen@sh.itjust.works avatar

Pearson is stupid, but for homework you can get around it by changing your user agent. For proctoring you have to actually boot into windows though

ReveredOxygen,
@ReveredOxygen@sh.itjust.works avatar

there’s a tray, it’s just in the activities tab. press the super key (or click activities in the top left) to bring up the activities view, then the tray is at the bottom

ReveredOxygen,
@ReveredOxygen@sh.itjust.works avatar

gnome loves to change its api

ReveredOxygen,

Well, it’s where minimized apps go

I’m finally DIYing at 18. I waited because I thought I would be able to do it legit once I turned, but I’m still in purgatory for the foreseeable future so I’m doing it myself

Jacob’s syndrome has hardly any symptoms, I doubt they notice to take the freedom

How do people find good information on the internet these days?

It used to be that you would do a search on a relevant subject and get blog posts, forums posts, and maybe a couple of relevant companies offering the product or service. (And if you wanted more information on said company you could give them a call and actually talk to a real person about said service) You could even trust...

ReveredOxygen,
@ReveredOxygen@sh.itjust.works avatar

GeeksForGeeks and similar sites are the bane of my existence. Any time I try to find docs, I have to wade through pages of that junk

even if you run vi, the welcome screen says what it actually is
