Rakonat,

TIL cats are really bad at math.

Rakonat,

Both and a game 20 years from the future when Toady finally finishes it.

Rakonat,

Im unhappy because I value my time and I wasting it trying to get around you bumbling fucks who just meander about without a care in the world.

Rakonat,

Dude with a 2000 dollar thermal sight is gonna clap the guy with a javelin. Also any tank made by a competent nation (i.e.: not russia) will have thermal sights on their tank specifically to find some fuckboi on the bushes with a vibecheck tube.

Rakonat,

CIWS for every tank. Do it.

Rakonat,

When literally everyone who is paid to stop you from doing exactly what you are doing, it was more likely there was about 10 people in moscow who would try to resist and a couple million happy literally anyone else is in the kremlin. Just being able to plant his flag in the city would have been a major blow to his political rivals.

He might not have held that power for very long, but he would have lived considerably longer since he already committed his treason.

Rakonat,

The concept of timezones is fine, we need a way to differentiate when days start so its a bit silly for everyone to go off of UTC or any other clock, how are you going to track the exact date, is half the world just going to go from the 8th to the 9th during their workday

What can be fixed, is making timezones uniform amd straight lines, not zigzagging abominations where its possible to drive due north and have a time change 8+ times.

Rakonat,

Eh, Moskva was stupidly old and pushing near 50 years. In a navy that actually takes care of their ships, thats old. In the Russian navy its in so much disrepair its bordering on ancient.

Naval history, particularly since ironclads and steel armor became a thing, ships of smaller classes eclipse those of larger ones of previous generation. HMS Dreadnought was 18000 tonnes when she was in service in the 1900s, 50 years later, USS Des Moines was an 18000 tonnes Heavy Cruiser, comparable to the infamous battleship.

German Frigates being comparable to Russian Reef starters isn’t that big of a surprise.

Rakonat,

It may be a Parody but its a lovingly made parody thats as good if not better than most of Dr Who, modern or classic.

Rakonat,

Threaten me with a good time why don’t you.

Rakonat,

Believe me, I’ve tried. Not only did my ex steal my hoodies, but some of her friends also stole my hoodies and my ex was seemingly okay with that.

I understand to a point why girls like to have guy’s clothing, but its no less infuriating when a significant chunk of your wardrobe seemingly disappears

Rakonat,

45 Years ago, the more things change the more they stay the same!

StarCraft could return, according to Blizzard president, but not necessarily as an RTS (www.pcgamer.com)

While Blizzard is very much focussed on its big money-makers like its various Warcraft games, from WoW to Hearthstone to Warcraft Rumble, as well as Diablo and the much-maligned Overwatch 2, he’s still open to StarCraft making a comeback. That said, RTS fans shouldn’t get their hopes up. While the series might return, that...

Rakonat,

Blizzard cut their teeth and grew most of their oldest fans on RTS’s, and now don’t want to make more RTS because the average gamer wants to play an arena game, battle royal or rpg. The RTS market is there, investors just don’t see it because RTS tends to be more niche and players putting in more hours overall compared to more casual friendly genres.

Rakonat,

Won’t even take their free ‘gifts’, worse than Origin when it comes to spyware and data collecting. I can’t understand anyone who willingly puts EGS on their device but complains about advertisers on other platforms collecting info about them.

Rakonat,

Steam won’t let Tencent put their spyware on the platform.

Rakonat,

I think you misunderstand the statement.

I’m not saying every game and software on Steam is quality or proven to not have malware or spyware packaged in the games.

I’m saying Epic Games Store and Launcher itself is spyware, that actively snoops through user’s personal files well beyond the scope of its install directory and phones home encrypted packets of the results. And Epic Games will not give proper response to why it’s doing this or what it’s returning.

Valve at least has been forthcoming about what Steam looks for and why it monitors specific ports, as part of VAC.

Rakonat,

Intelligence represents how clever you are and what you know, basically how quick your mind is at improvising solutions.

Wisdom is your awareness of your surroundings as well as how much of that you retain and can access on demand without further stimulation.

Int 18 Wis 8 would be like a professor of advances sciences or engineering (doesn’t matter what field) who can give indepth breakdowns of things in their field work and expected outcomes of things related to that field. But that same professor can never remember where they put their glasses, lab notes, the homework or remember anyone’s name without serious attempts to grill it into their long term memory.

Rakonat,

Intelligence is knowledgeable and processing speed. Wisdom is awareness and memory.

You remember the store had 4 apples on the shelf, but you know 2 + 2 is 4.

Rakonat,

Idiot Savant would be one way of describing them, though a rather slow detective might be another. They never got good grades in high school and not really quick on their feet. He doesn’t know much of anything but he notices everything and might just be inquisitive enough to ask people who seem knowledgeable about it. And he never forgets a detail, he still remembers that time you told him four years ago you got stung by a bee or about how your dog keeps making a mess on the back step.

When our absent minded professor is killed by a jealous rival chemist, our idiot detective doesn’t understand a single word of how the suspicious chemist goes on how the deceased was a hack and never deserved his PhD, let alone tenure, our simple detective still notices all the quirks and tells of the chemist to know he’s lying and emotionally invested in the fate of our late professor. He’s also the one to find a bunch of cleaners in the trash by the custodial closet, and the only one to give them mind because the bottles in the closet are half full and have wear marks like they only get used a few times a week, while the ones in the trash seem almost brand new save for their empty contents. He also finds a number of recently used implements in the chemistry lab that hadn’t been properly cleaned. He may not have the knowledge to piece together that these otherwise inert chemicals can be mixed and prepared in a specific way to make a fast acting toxin, but he does know the Chemist is lying when he claims he used them to clean up his lab and work area, because said lab and area are filthy and do not smell of cleaners, but the beakers he found do.

Rakonat,

His legal team is all to well aware that Trump under oath is a ticking time bomb. He’s got not verbal control what so ever and liable to admit to wrong doing as a casual boast.

Rakonat,

I think I know what platform you are talking about, a gap right at the ceiling you needed to cross to get missiles for the battlewagon. You just needed ro walk across.

Rakonat,

Years ago when hldj worked on TF2 I had a soundboard I’d play on my main server. Drowining theme is something I’d toss up when I wanted to give people a heart attack

Rakonat,

The largest hurdles to nuclear power are PR. Water usage of nuclear plants is able to recycle most if not all of what they utilize and the high energy density and capable power output makes it much more economical to pump water from further away to sustain the plant and needs of regional communities, especially compared to fossil fuels plants that largely use water in the same capacity as nuclear. If a coal or gas plant was viable in a location, then nuclear would be just as if not more capable in that location.

You could replace every coal plant in the world with nuclear and the only major logistics disruption would be supplying them with enough uranium.

Rakonat,

That 3 in 60 is pretty loaded since Chernobyl simply would not have been possible with western reactors of the same design year, to say nothing of what passed as modern than and even more so now.

Rakonat,

Pitting nuclear against wind and solar is stupid given how much they compliment each other.

Rakonat,

Why is the VPN singing sea shanties?

Rakonat,

Can’t really talk to the disrespect but an ex was about 6 inches shorter than me, and she commented how she loved how much taller I was and having me around made her feel safe and protected, and while I hadn’t thought about it at first it was nice to be appreciated for our differences.

Didn’t really have many fights and when we did argue it was usually sitting down on the couch so the height difference was moot (though in hindsight she would often hop up to her knees when trying to make a point so maybe subconsciously going for the height advantage?)

I don’t actively seek out shorter girls but most women interested in me certainly seem to be shorter than myself by a few inches, only girl my height I dated was very short lived since we quickly found out we didn’t have compatible interests or personalities.

Rakonat,

“It was present for the crime there for its the reason of the crime.” Sadly relevant even here on Lemmy.

Rakonat,

Spend some time in Alaska before making comments like this.

Rakonat,

By your very own logic basically no that owns a gun commits a crime with them. Fewer than 500,000 reported gun related crimes against over 100 million gun owners in the us. For a .05% gun offense rate by gun owners, and that percentage gets smaller when you consider how many of those are repeat offenders and people illegally owning a fire arm.

Seems like the math is saying its not guns, but maybe something else these criminal offenders have in common that +99.95% don’t share with them…

Rakonat,

How I wish I lived in a part lf the world built and designed for bycicles or proper public transit.

Rakonat,

Why must you hurt me like this?

Rakonat,

Yeah youtubes attempt at being tiktok is just awful and they don’t even have options to not have shorts show up in the feed. On top of shorts just being inferior versions of regular videos without functional controls

Rakonat,

If Roddenberry had his way TNG would been way hornier, some summarizations of his early pitches basically had the Enterprise D being a giant polygamous orgy off duty, and definitely earning that D in their registry. To say nothing of sexual counselors and holodeck progams that would make Quark’s holosuites blush.

Rakonat,

If memory serves Troi also had an encounter with a noncorporeal being that resulted in her being pregnant.

Don’t remember the Dr Crusher one though.

Rakonat,

Thought it might be vigilant 8 but could be wrong. Been a looong time.

Rakonat,

Berman was a horndog but Roddenberry and Thiess pretty much ran with what ever the censors said was okay and pushed till the censor pushed back.

Rakonat,

Im honestly tired of this argument.

Ive worked several jobs across my life time and if we paid people room and board to stay the fuck at home the world would be better for it.

Rakonat,

Automation and AI (it’s not true AI but it’s displacing workers all the same) and handling more and more logistics as time goes and the tech gets cheaper and better, there are less jobs that an 18 year old would qualify for.

Do you want someone doing that job that actually wants to work, or someone showing up and doing the bare minimum they can get away with to collect a check?

And the jobs that do actually have need of peiple? Well now they can do their part to attract those with the skill and knowledge to do them rather than rely on a revovling door of people just showing up because someone told them they had to.

Rakonat,

I’m not sure what you’re talking about then because everything from truck drivers and trains to warehouse workers are being primed to be replaced by automated or AI networked machines. There are very few jobs in that sector not up to be replaced by a machine and most of those are things that require a masters degree in engineering or mathematics and statistics.

Pretty much everything that would be considered an entry level job someone with a high school diploma or GED would have a chance of getting isn’t going to be around 10-15 years from now, and those that are will have a high level of competition that anyone not overqualified simply doesn’t qualify against anyone else needing a job. What jobs can’t be entirely automated or done by a machine are going to have more potential applicants than the company could ever hope to employ, let alone need to.

So yeah, TL;DR if we started UBI now with no strings attached and let people without a desire to work, you’re not going to see a drop in productivity or services. The only places that might feel the hurt are the places that exploit that young adults without college degrees willing to work a job for 3-9 months before quitting and finding a new job.

Rakonat,

Wow they screwed that all up.

Drones do not take care of the young. At all. Literally all the drones do is eat and roam the hive until breeding season, then they get it on and die alone since their hive won’t let them return after they copulated, and if there ever become too many drones the workers chase them out and kill them if they try to return. Different species do it a bit differently but in general the drones are the first to be culled if resources ever get low. The only major exception is if a hive lost their queen, some workers can lay unfertilized eggs which develop into male drones to pass on the genetic diversity of the hive, as they anticipate dying out without a queen and no eggs young and healthy enough to rear new ones.

Rakonat,

To be fair that’s true if you only talk about aerodynamics. But by the same logic helicopters can’t fly either.

Rakonat,

The funny part is when you remind the weebs how bad the iron commonly found in Japan was just not great quality and purity which they lacked the know how to correct, so the folding technique was developed to make their steel workable. If European techniques had been used on Japanese Steel, you’d have one very shoddy sword.

Rakonat,

That is one unhappy void. Hope OP is still alive to read my condolences.

Rakonat,

Ah, so 50/50 odds. Best of luck, op. I recommend leaving catnip in her box or chewies near her favorite napping spots to better your odds!
