Social media is one hell of a drug. It’d have you swallowing giant gummy worms whole at the back of a sip’n’strut. Oh sure, the catharsis is nice, but at some point you’ll need to ask yourself “why are we like this?”...
Because many people on social media are not here to experience a new perspective, they are here to lecture everyone else on how the world really works.
The reason for the bait replies are they want to be able to deliver the gotcha talking point they have heard somewhere else.
Why are people like this, mommy?
Often it is because the people involved have been shut down trying to lecture those around them on the same topics in real life but they still want to do it. They are not looking for conversation, they are looking for an audience to lecture at.
And why is daddy always drinking the unhappy juice?
Serious reply. Many people use alcohol to mask anxiety, especially men in societies that still hold on to the "Man must be stoic and strong at all times" horseshit.
Anxiety focused inward often manifests as depression.
Anxiety focused outward often manifests as aggression.
I feel it is important to publicise refutations of extraordinary claims widely.
The media generally loves to publish the extraordinary claims. especially ALIENS!! but is silent when the results comeback as "Sorry, they were wrong."
By July 2019, most astronomers concluded that it was a natural object, but its exact characterization is contentious given the limited observation window. While an unconsolidated object (rubble pile) would require ʻOumuamua to be of a density similar to rocky asteroids
On 22 March 2023, astronomers proposed the observed acceleration was "due to the release of entrapped molecular hydrogen that formed through energetic processing of an H2O-rich icy body",[33] consistent with 'Oumuamua being an interstellar comet, "originating as a planetesimal relic broadly similar to solar system comets"
Avi Loeb has suggested that it could be a product of extraterrestrial technology,[35] but there is insufficient evidence to support any hypotheses, "despite all [its] strangeness".
While basically every Astrophysicist agrees it is from outside our solar system. He is basically the only Astrophysicist who believes it is an artefact of alien intelligence and design.
While I have not read his book it sounds like a case of confirmation basis on his part.

Sagan's Demon haunted world is great in showing that for many people, as science has advanced, Aliens have replaced The Gods as the catch all cause for shit I don't understand.

You get dropped exactly where you are now, just 500 years ago. All the European descended people not living in Europe are (very likely) in for a bad time.

In a game that is only played in one country... (well two if this genius is successful)
“The independence of Texas is good for humanity as a whole,”
I doubt it is possible be more narcissistic and self centred.
Personally, If Texas ever declared and the USA allowed them to leave I have a feeling they would be begging the US to readmit them to the union in a very short time.
These people fail to realise that so much of what they benefit from being in Texas is because it is part of the USA.
What happens when NASA and the DOD remove all their facilities and staff?
What happens when they have to defend themselves?
Sign trade agreements with the rest of the world?
What happens when the USA slaps tariffs on their oil to protect US interests?
Etc
etc
etc
etc.
It reminds me of children talking about how cool it will be when they are adults and don't have to listen to mom and dad.

If you’re a Phone (2) user in one of the select countries where Nothing Chats is available, you can download the messaging app from the Google Play Store.
beeper does look interesting but I am weary of sign up and we will tell you when you can join type apps.
And this rings a few alarm bells for me:
if you send a message from Beeper to a friend on WhatsApp, the message is encrypted on your Beeper client, sent to the Beeper web service, which decrypts and re-encrypts the message with WhatsApp's proprietary encryption protocol.
I would love for this to work but that alone has a host of issues around third party trust.
New European legislation is coming into effect in 2024 and will force iMessage and WhatsApp to expose an interoperable end-to-end-encrypted API. Our servers are located in Europe, and we will switch to this open interface as soon as it is ready.
Sadly, not being in the EU means I will likely pass on this but is sounds great for EU residents when the above is implemented.

Compared with the three types of photoreceptor cell that humans possess in their eyes, the eyes of a mantis shrimp have between 12 and 16 types of photoreceptor cells. Furthermore, some of these shrimp can tune the sensitivity of their long-wavelength colour vision to adapt to their environment.
Not sure what it would make the world around me look like but I would love to find out.
It has the second highest concentration in the body, after the skull. Since the human bite force is not strong enough to penetrate the human skull the zombies are actually targeting the next best area to eat brains.
The ability to jump forward and backwards in time has long fascinated science fiction writers and physicists alike. So is it really possible to travel into the past and the future?
In our universe there are several possibilities to slow the passage of time compared to an observer on earth. Namely travelling at a high percentage of the speed of light or existing in a high gravity field (close to the event horizon of a black hole) but there is no practical way to travel back and forwards in time
In your SF universe? Well, it is what ever you decide.
I assume what op is looking for is a long term non-selfhosted backup of their videos.
From the comments here I think just uploading (encrypted if they feel that is necessary) to a free cloud storage account would also be an option. May be upload to several for redundancy.
Why are people so adversarial on social media? Why do I keep seeing people setting traps, or baiting people?
