Only if you plan on either never paying for an online sub for the console or paying for an online sub for less than 5 years on the console, and also take into consideration that a PC can both game and be a computer you can use for other things.
A gaming PC has a higher upfront cost, but it’s a better long-term value. Let’s say you buy a PS5 for $500, and then pay for 5 years of PS+ for the old price, $60. That’s $800 for a friggin console already, but let’s also consider that most people either have a laptop or a tablet for doing computer-related tasks. Reasonable people would pay probably somewhere in the $400-$600 range, but let’s give the console a chance and say we got a $400 laptop. That’s $1200 now.
Using that $1200 as a budget, you can get a computer with a 4060ti, a 12th gen i5, a 1TB NVME SSD, and 16GB RAM for around $1100. Note that, say, 5 years down the line from buying this PC, you can just swap in and out parts as you want and be able to sell old parts for some money back, so staying up-to-date to play whatever current games can be cheaper too depending on the part prices.
Ok. Logitech G203 for $20 and a Redragon K552 for $45 - a tiny bit cheaper than a PS5 controller which retails at $70 before tax.
Windows you can literally get for free from Microsoft directly. You’re basically paying a license to get rid of the “Activate Windows” bit and to be able to change wallpapers, but functionally you can play games and do computer things with an unactivated Windows license. You can also opt to play on Linux instead since Steam offers Proton with their Linux version, and you can also use WINE for games that won’t run on Proton. Linux is also free.
If you want a mouse with a good sensor for competitive games and a linear switch mechanical keyboard with NKRO, those are generally the two best entry-level options. Rechargeable wireless mice can be a bit pricey, which is why I’m assuming you used a vague descriptor of “quality” and specifically mentioned it just for the sake of being arbitrarily on par with what a PS5 offers. But if you want a good budget option for a wireless gaming mouse, you can with a Logitch G305 for around $50.
As for the OS stuff, that’s a good point, and it’s true - if you’re talking about 5 or so years ago. Once Steam said “hey, we’re integrating Proton into our Linux version of Steam”, it’s been leaps and bounds in improvements for Linux gaming. By the way, fun fact: the PS4 used FreeBSD for the system’s OS which is based off Unix - and surprise, Linux is also based off Unix. Wouldn’t be surprised if the PS5 OS is also based on FreeBSD.
Which is why I’m hesitant to actually call those greedy fucks “capitalists”, because they’re the very antithesis of capitalism. They literally break the system for their own benefit, and thanks to US politicians to being corrupt enough to allow themselves to be bought out for a few bucks from said greedy fucks, nobody in power is incentivized to actually do something.
Capitalism works with money flowing constantly, and it needs that to work well. When you have some Warren Buffet and Elongated Muskrat kind of people just hoarding wealth… well, you get the shitshow that is the the US today. $300B circulating in the system would be awesome, and I would think that is a good indicator of a healthy economy; but when $300B is pretty much tied to one person, then congrats, we missed the point of capitalism.
For real. I can never understand why some of ye don’t have a cool pfp. You could even get some cool background art on your profile as well. Really jazz it up, ya know. But I swear 90% instead opt for the default lemmy logo. How uncreative and boring. I can’t even tell most of you people apart.
On the other hand, it’s useful to see anime/cryptobro/laser eye pfps since those tend to stereotypically tell you everything you need to know about that person.
Dude, it’s been like this for almost 30 years. Only difference between now and then is that everybody now has an easy way to stand on a soapbox to a large audience.
For the bit about brain worms being plot important? If so, yep! It’s pretty much the premise of the intro; you’re kidnapped by Lovecraftian-esque beings called “mind flayers” who take you aboard their organic spaceship and have one of their tadpoles wriggle into your brain. Hijinks ensue, and can include tough choices such as “do you resist your violent urges or cut off the funny magic man’s hand?”, “should you condemn a child to death because they committed petty larceny?”, and “do you want to have fuck with the bear?”
UPDATE 2It seems that starting today, uBlock Origin is working to combat this Youtube Block. Mine started working again! Lets all thank the devs of UBO for fighting this fight!...
Actually not true, the way YouTube ads show up is more or less almost impossible for pi-holes to catch. There’s been some successes in the past, but then YouTube ads somehow find another way to circumvent it.
Not from a romantic relationship, but I’ve had the same feeling for some of the hobbies I used to enjoy after falling out with some friends I knew for a long time. Still don’t do some of things I used to do with that friend group.
It’s not even a matter of “Democrat vs Republican” - do you know what they all have in common? They’re all part of the same ruling class you mentioned, and they’re all also helping the corporate owners of America push their agendas.
Like… it’s pretty damn blatant who the GOP are rooting for when you consider what rich asshats like Elongated Muskrat want, and then look at some of the policies they passed and go “oh shit.”
Counterpoint: maybe don’t position yourself near an instant death chasm? Or invest more into Athletics/Acrobatics?
Even if we take away Shove, the issue is still present with Thunderclap - make a single DC save from a 1st-level spell or be pushed into an instant death chasm.
Ah, I see. Yeah, Shove being a bonus action is a bit ridiculous - it should’ve been an action from the start since it’s an insanely easy get-out-of-jail-free card. Honestly wouldn’t mind a book implementation of 5e Shove being a normal action, and then just have the game’s current Shove be a “Forceful Shove” or something that takes up both normal and bonus actions.
That being said, the problem the other dude brings up is basically solved with trying to stay in a better position. If you’re gonna fight near a chasm or a very high-up walkway, you should expect to get shoved or pushed off somehow.
Yeah, totally glossed over the bit where you were focusing on Shove being a bonus action and causing some wacky balance. Thought it was moreso the fact that it’s even a mechanic in the first place.
I mean, while it was hilarious I could shove all three bosses in the Goblin Camp into chasms before they aggro’d me, it is broken in that A) you can shove non-hostile NPCs indefinitely with no repercussions, and B) you can do a full attack and always Shove in a single turn, which has huge benefits for characters with high STR.

AI is still probably years away from doing office jobs. Right now, it’s at best a tool to help experts out with their job - and even then, it still messes up from time-to-time.
I would argue that the only office job it can do right now is probably the role of CEO - but hell, it’s still far away from doing that.
Guys, he’s demonstrating gun safety the same way Detective Raphaël Ambrosius Costeau from Disco Elysium shows it. Minus the “blowing out your own brains” bit.
Neither the layoffs nor breaking ties with a playtesting company that knows their worth in the market sound like they're going to help BioWare make RPGs that can compete with Baldur's Gate 3, formerly a BioWare series.
BioWare made BG 1 & 2 back in the day, and they started Dragon Age as a spiritual successor to their DnD games as I would imagine (and assume) that EA didn’t want to deal with WoTC with getting the license to a DnD game.
So it’s kind of ironic that arguably one of the best games to come out this year is a Baldur’s Gate game as the new Dragon Age game sounds like it might be languishing in development.
It’s probably more likely that we’re losing more of the “Fediverse is just Reddit 2.0” kind of people - which is great because that’s 10k or w/e less Redditors that’ll go back on the platform they actually want to use.
Fediverse doesn’t have an ocean of communities and content (yet), but that’s fine with me since I’m more active here and trying to offer more insightful comments outside of the Reddit staple “this” kind of comments.
Man, this would be the dream. The US has let a lot of essential services and utilities become run by private companies seeking only the highest profit. There’s some things that should be provided by the government, and I believe internet connection is one of them.
Jar-Jar: Tink about it. Shesa out da middle of nowhere wit one bombad Gungan shesa barely knows. Shesa look around her, what does shesa see? Nah-ting but open space. “Ooooooh no, dere’s nowhere for mesa to run, what mesa gonna do, say no?”
Anakin: Okay…that seems really dark though.
Jar-Jar: No, no, dis not dark. Yousa misunderstanding me, Ani!
Anakin: I think I am.
Jar-Jar: Yes, yousa are. Cuz if da girl said no, den da answer obviously is no. Da thing is dat shesa not gonna say no, shesa never say no…because of the implication.
Considering how crazy expensive accommodations have become the last couple of years, concentrated in the hands of greedy corporations, landlords and how little politicians seem to care about this problem, do you think we will ever experience a real estate market crash that would bring those exorbitant prices back to Earth?
I know parking lot minimums make it hell for new stores to be built, but does it also affect mid- and high-rises? Because that would fucking suck if that’s another reason it’s hard to make affordable housing.

Forget small cars, we should be embracing non-motorized ways of transit. Make things human-sized again and allow us to walk and/or bike to destinations rather than having to have a motorized vehicle to get around.
Public transit is obviously a good thing to have, but I think it’s also important to have alternate forms of transit as well.
I am probably unqualified to speak about this, as I am using an RX 550 low profile and a 768P monitor and almost never play newer titles, but I want to kickstart a discussion, so hear me out....
Art style will always be more important than graphic fidelity, imo. Having a less realistic-looking game with a strong art style allows the game to age better with time.
Take a look at the first Borderlands - it’s from like 2006 or 2008, but it still looks good today because of the cel-shaded art style it went with. Meanwhile the first Uncharted looks goofy as hell today because it was trying to look realistic during that same timeframe that Borderlands was released.
It’s hella malicious, but I sincerely hope this lawsuit gets tossed or these people lose if it goes through.
Those people played the bag holding lottery and lost hard. They were not scammed because they chose to listen to all the shills instead of doing their DD on a financial decision that they knew next to nothing about. If they did, then they would know NFT art and crypto is pretty much all hype with no intrinsic or physical value to actually back those things.
My wife and I started talking about this after she had to help an old lady at the DMV figure out how to use her iPhone to scan a QR code. We're in our early 40s.
Nah, it’s a thing. Youngest of the Millennial generation and I can concur with your comment after being in IT for a few years - pretty much it’s either Baby Boomers or Gen Z people who have a tough time with technology, with a 50/50 shot of a Gen X person being either super tech savvy or a technological troglodyte. AI has also made things worse since it can now do some light coding, but I’ve seen some people use it to code out entire projects only for it to not work properly at all or break UI on websites.
I’d argue that Gen Z is the worst for the same reasoning in your post: everything works OOTB, and if something goes awry then they don’t know anything or can’t do things the old-fashioned way - which at least Baby Boomers have the option to if they want to be stubborn enough.
Nah, the "SS" and "HD" bits refers to how each storage disk reads data. HDDs use hard metal disks to read & write data, hence it got the misnomer hard disk drive. SSDs use solid state flash memory to read & write data, hence it being called a solid state drive.
If you want the general category, you'd want to say "storage drive" specifically since if you say "drive", that can also refer to an optical drive (AKA the CD slot) or a USB drive (AKA flash/thumb drives).
But the comic is also pretty short, so I can’t see how they’re gonna stretch it out that much. The movie did a pretty good job of covering all the books more or less, so I can’t imagine this show being more than maybe 3 seasons.
