PhlubbaDubba, to comicstrips in ZAP

He wished to be a prince, his royal entourage hypothetically included several people capable of assassinating Jafar on the order, it was just down to Aladdin being a stickler for being an active participant in proceedings that hindered him taking that less direct route.

Different wish granting entities different rules

A Djinn’s wishes are meant to serve as a lesson about understanding what you actually want while Shenron’s limitations are more about keeping any mortal who can summon him from stepping beyond their bounds, especially since we now have the super dragonballs implying significant limitations on what regular dragonballs are capable of in comparison.

Honestly it’d be interesting to see a comparison of wish granting powers to understand what their limitations imply about their roll in the story.

PhlubbaDubba, to memes in They don't understand. We built these machines so that we can work more.

Honestly I just like the idea of it because if someone decides they really want to grind for a bit they can now take up a second up to full time job without worrying about most of the shit employers will give you for that.

What I think should be the standard is a “full time” job being 18 hours in a week of work time, including commuting, with any time above every additional multiple of 18 immediately paying out as 2.5x the pay that’s been earned so far. Doesn’t just give people their free time back in spades, it also significantly discourages extorting workers for overtime instead of staffing adequately because now it’s literally more expensive to pay out any overtime at all than it would have been to just hire the additional worker at equal pay, and that effect ramps up exponentially too, by the time you’re at the soul grind of a 40 hour week you’ve already tapped your employer so hard it would have been cheaper to hire 5 additional workers than it was to make you work that 40 hour week.

IIRC the reason the queen is such a powerful piece is because the original piece was called something like “The Commander” or “The Champion”, and the idea of that being a separate person from the King didn’t make sense once the game reached Europe amid the chivalric code and specific rules about how lords and monarchs are to be handled on the battlefield.

PhlubbaDubba, to noncredibledefense in Vatnik historybuff copium (holy shit)

Nah, “if D-Day failed” implies everything up to that point being unchanged save for bad planning, in that scenario the Soviets would have had the war materials the US had been sending them and which they had turned the invasion around using by that point.

You’d need to have failed landings along the Mediterranean as well before we get to the point where the Nazi commanders who didn’t have their heads up their own asses last estimated they could turn the momentum back against the Soviets, and at that point the question isn’t if Germany could win, it’s how far Stalin would be willing to go to take the initiative back again, because the earth is a globe, and if needed, the US and Canada could have deployed their troops into the Soviet Union to mount a reinforcement operation while the UK doubled down on supplying asymmetric resistance against the Nazis, and now we’re dealing with what Japan’s role as an acting defense against such a maneuver would be or if they’d even be willing to mount a defensive operation against such a troop movement purely for Germany’s benefit.

Then again we’ve gone so far down the rabbit hole now that we’ve run into the fact that the US would probably have deployed the bomb since Germany was their intended target in the first place anyways, so does Japan just fold seeing that the US can make nukes now after Berlin becomes a glass floor?

WWII is just so all over the damn place that any point falling the other direction spirals half a million what ifs, none of which end up being answered really well in alt-hist media purely because people just have a really hard time picturing all the angles of attack in a war that truly encompasses the whole world in scope.

PhlubbaDubba, to europe in EU was ready to take away Hungarys veto rights if it had not conceded on issue of Ukraine accession talks

Nope, because Orban’s party denies the legitimacy of Slovakia as an independent state via their grievance culture over the Treaty of Trianon

PhlubbaDubba, to europe in Republicans to meet allies of Hungary’s Viktor Orbán on ending Ukraine aid

I feel like actively signalling support of a political party is grounds to send the Hungarian embassy and their staff back home if they’re willing to actively sabotage the efforts of the US and her allies because Orban is mad Zelensky made him look bad.

PhlubbaDubba, to rpgmemes in Had this conversation with someone who chose to no longer be at my table after meeting a blind NPC

I don’t even remember if it was WotC published or on a third party site, but someone released a magic item wheel chair that was basically designed to allow a paraplegic character to keep up with the rest of the party, and everyone proceeded to lost their goddamn minds over it for like 2 months.

Not everyone but certainly the population that’s so entwined with slavery assassinations and all manner of things that would be crimes on the surface that they had to create whole new factions of those groups just to line up with the “no evil races” philosophy
