I know this is a really vague question, but it’s been on my mind A LOT lately. I’m specifically asking about people fighting on behalf of a group that is subject to oppression of some kind. 3 years ago, with all of the protests in America that included violence majorly against property and minorly against people but were...
Never be afraid to say that you’d escalate the issue but KEEP OWNERSHIP. Ownership is huge to these people.
Your advice is great in general, but procedures may vary. When I worked in professional IT support, we have often transferred ownership to the next level group, together with the escalation.
But then our customers were all professional IT guys too, devs, admins, sometimes managers. No whining panicking end users :-)

Youtube let the other shoe drop in their end-stage enshittification this week. Last month, they required you to turn on Youtube History to view the feed of youtube videos recommendations. That seems reasonable, so I did it. But I delete my history every 1 week instead of every 3 months. So they don’t get much from my choices....
No. That was my point. Don’t you know their business model? The creators get a tiny share of the paid ads on their video, and they get nothing at all if there are no ads playing on their video. They can never get a share from your payment.
I’ve noticed that sometimes when a particular VM/ service is having issues, they all seem to hang. For example, I have a VM hosting my DNS (pihole) and another hosting my media server (jellyfin). If Jellyfin crashes for some reason, my internet in the entire house also goes down because it seems DNS is unable to be reached for...
Your services may run in separate VMs, but there are still some dependencies between them. You need to know, and think about, all the dependencies between your VMs.
For example, they share a common network interface (the one of the host machine). That is a dependency. If one VM is able to clog the network interface (and maybe your crashing one is doing exactly that), then it is clogged for all the other VMs too.
To resolve that dependency, you can either put another network interface card in your host machine and let only the pihole VM use it, or run the pihole on a real physical Pi.
You could also resolve the jellyfin’s own problem. But resolving the dependency might give you a more reliable system.
There are 6 Windows machines in my family and 11 Linux machines. Generously including the Androids for the purpose of statistics. Not counting the virtual machines.
Hello I just created this Account for this Question. Is it okay to support Israel in the middle east conflict? I’m from Europe and have no ties at all to any Side. Just for fun: Assuming the motion of the string travels at the speed of sound (I have no idea if it actually would, it just sounds right)
It is true in principle. But the speed of sound is different, depending on the material. For that string we can assume it to be roughly 10 times faster than in the air.
would be about 10.5 hours between you pulling the string and the bell ringing
Compression and expansion is real. The first part of the string moves with your hand, at the same speed as your hand moves. But then it takes some time until further parts of the string - or the final part of the string - even start with their motion. Ok? And here we were talking about how fast this “beginning of the motion” travels forward through the string. That’s the speed of sound.
When you want to lift it up vertically, then the force that you need is exactly the same as the weight.
But when you push or pull it forward on a surface, you need a different force.
Push a golf ball on the table: you need very small force, much less than it’s weight. Suck the same golf ball through a garden hose: you need much more force.
You want to look up “coefficient of friction” in your books.

You are leaning towards something like fatalism or cynicism, but these attitudes are never helpful (only for your feeling, if you like to feel superior even if you are not).
election frauds / riots / etc in the US, global warming / severe weather increasing, capitalism
Problems getting worse indicate that mankind is getting worse. Technology cannot fix it. Man needs to get fixed.
if everyone was a drooling idiot and still had access to nukes
Think about this:
Regarding the group of people having access to the buttons that start the nukes, I can’t help the feeling that the percentage of idiots is much higher there than it is among average people.
If you want autonomous cars outside in the real world (as opposed to artificial lab and test scenarios), then they have to deal with real world situations. This situation has happened in reality. You don’t need to ask about odds anymore.
how can the car know which situation it’s currently in?
That is an engineering question. A good one. And again one of these that should have been solved before they let this car out into the real world.
