Needs more programmers in order to check the AC checkbox, can’t afford that.

Your Smart TV Knows What You’re Watching (themarkup.org)

These TVs can capture and identify 7,200 images per hour, or approximately two every second. The data is then used for content recommendations and ad targeting, which is a huge business; advertisers spent an estimated $18.6 billion on smart TV ads in 2022, according to market research firm eMarketer.

“Are you watching the TV, or is the TV watching you?”

Yeah well I claim I’m Gabe Newell’s brother.

I think we entered that era quite some time ago now, would make it easier for them tho

Every tech we advance in will always give hackers more freedom as well, it’s how it will always be. Its also why we should have less and less info about us on the net.

What could KINDA help against this is using open source software, but wheres the spyware in that?

Imagine replacing trees with those, and some drunk breaking the glass like once a week lmao

2010 Facebook is that you?

NabeGewell,

I quit youtube, became addicted to freetube

NabeGewell,
@NabeGewell@lemmy.world avatar

They make alot of em, you are falling behind!

NabeGewell,
@NabeGewell@lemmy.world avatar

I think it would be easier for them to put Windows preinstalled

NabeGewell,

Basically its a repeat of the OG Gameboy story

NabeGewell,
@NabeGewell@lemmy.world avatar

Great channel, I’ve seen his doc vids

Very glad he rediscovered his passion with those vids

And yeah if you don’t know what I’m talking about go check out his gameboy vid if interested, tldr the cheaper and more energy efficient tech in the gameboy is why it sold this good even though there are way more impressive products in the market

NabeGewell,
@NabeGewell@lemmy.world avatar

Oh man I get to pay AND have my data taken? Collected by the corporation and stolen by hackers? What an amazing company, truly the leaders of the future of the web Meta is

NabeGewell,
@NabeGewell@lemmy.world avatar

For now I just have piped to save playlists in (you dont even need an account for that) but every instance I’ve tried goes dark more and more often each month. Great alternative and I wish all the best to everyone working on it, including the hosters but Freetube works pretty much without issues for many months now.

NabeGewell,
@NabeGewell@lemmy.world avatar

No Man’s Sky for few months now.

Also started Hellblade, its very easy to get stuck in that game it seems

NabeGewell, (edited )
@NabeGewell@lemmy.world avatar

Not as “bad” as rimworld, unlike nms that game requires attention all the time, and is even more addicting to me :D

literally got in the way of normal life and created temporary issues

NabeGewell,
@NabeGewell@lemmy.world avatar

Maybe not a popular opinion, but how about No Man’s Sky? It’s where i chill out - just ignoring story and quests and go exploring, collecting resources, literally picking flowers and taming an animal to see it run around.

That or just go into the big empty space and shoot rocks. Both are basic things but i find it meditative. Get some chill music going…

All low 40fps 10w 700mhz, FSR 2 on performamce. Anistropic filtering 4.

It can most def do way better, but I want minimum fan noise. Doing 2+ h this way.

EDIT: Actually idk if it’s around 2h, might have been more, I’ve been playing on charger most of the time and cant test right now

Reminds me of Microsoft’s “1,000,000 PCs can’t be wrong” or whatever it was when they started pushing windows 10 to 7 users

New policy requires Chinese influencers to display their personal information on Weibo (globalvoices.org)

The massive Chinese social media network Sina Weibo informed its platform’s most popular users last week that they must display their real identities, including names, gender, IP locations, as well as professional and educational background, on their account page starting at the end of October....

“As my granddad did, and his one before him”

NabeGewell,
@NabeGewell@lemmy.world avatar

honestly I just run a game and go watch a vid till it starts, sometimes multiple vids if there was an update.

That or I just skip it, actually it doesn’t lag that much from skipping half of the time

NabeGewell,

That it I’m deleting my browser.

Californians will be able to delete all personal online data with first-in-US law (www.theguardian.com)

The new bill reinforces that all data brokers must register with the California privacy protection agency, and it requires the CPPA to establish an easy and free way for Californians to request that all data brokers in the state delete their data through a single page, regardless of how they acquired that information. If data...

NabeGewell,

Lol isn’t eTrash considered a scam anyways? They are the reason i got ad blocker - dumbest ads on youtube 24/7.

Anyways sounds like you gotta be quite brave to use Brave lol

NabeGewell,
@NabeGewell@lemmy.world avatar

Id say this is a new low, but they might have gone even lower already

NabeGewell,
@NabeGewell@lemmy.world avatar

I love having an online account that stores all my data. Of course the company would give anything the next leak to protect it

NabeGewell,
@NabeGewell@lemmy.world avatar

The General himself went and fixed all that huh? Impressive

Horizon Chase 2 - poorly optimized?

Horizon Chase 1 ran great on the Deck, was a really fun game to play. Now I tried Horizon Chase 2 and was surprised how bad the performance is. It’s stuttering and freezing every few seconds rendering the game unplayable. Has anyone in here tried it yet? Is there anything I’m missing or is the game just badly optimised?...

Poland Opens GDPR Investigation into ChatGPT and OpenAI amid Mounting Privacy Concerns (www.privateinternetaccess.com)

It’s not surprising that ChatGPT has been accused of breaching the EU’s main privacy law – PIA blog noted that ChatGPT was a privacy disaster waiting to happen back in February. As the first complaint to be taken up by an EU data protection agency, this case will be watched closely by other EU Member States, and around the...

That’s cool, does it have any purpose than just advertise linux gaming? Which I’m def happy it’s doing, but I’m wondering whats the idea here.

It never sat right to me the use of AI so i’ve never tried it, i wish we could one day have all the current AI features running fully locally so i won’t have some company collecting even more on me.

NabeGewell,

Same with 10, no?

NabeGewell,
@NabeGewell@lemmy.world avatar

Happy to say I’m running Linux. It’s not all sunshine but i’d rather put up with it’s downsides than use Windows 10/11

NabeGewell,
@NabeGewell@lemmy.world avatar

As in, chat with it or make it generate stuff. Which ive done a few times to try it but hits my paranoia a bit too much. Corporations know more than enough by their trackers alone

Anyone for text-based games? (lemmy.opensupply.space)

Hello! I am creator of text-based games (which I guess is quite retro) and wanted to present to You one of them. "Dominion of Darkness” is a strategy/RPG text game in which the player takes on the role of a Sauron-style Lord of Darkness with the goal of conquering the world. He will carry out his plans by making various...

I think that might be possible with just a software update
