wow it’s almost like having a huge chunk of lemmy’s users in one instance is a bad thing. who would’ve thought.

seriously though more people should migrate to smaller instances.

What are some RPGs for someone who doesnt like most RPGs

Hey everyone! I’ve been diving into RPGs lately and wanted to share my thoughts and seek recommendations from fellow gamers. I’ve found myself resonating with Scott the Woz’s viewpoint on random encounters and grinding, but I do make an exception when the combat system is truly exceptional, like in the case of...

fear and hunger is an immersive sim disguised as an rpg.

the only thing pushing the game further isn’t your characters level but your own knowledge and understanding of the game mechanics and your ability to manipulate them to your advantage but this comes with bashing your head to a wall over and over and over again until you find something that works. it is brutal and not for everyone. the themes are also pretty disturbing so proceed with caution.

Privacy with Google's Gboard (lemm.ee)

The only app I can’t live without. Except for gboard, all of my applications are Foss. There is no competition for gboard’s swipe typing, not to mention its many capabilities like as searching for gifs, stickers, being able to paste copied images, translating, and so on. I’d like to know how I can use gboard while...

but why does link have vagina bones???

I want to move to Linux but I need to be able to access my apps that are not supported (kbin.social)

Hey, I use the Adobe Suite for daily use to build and develop posts and videos for multiple people and can't have my workflow slow down by learning a new application, I've looked into Linux a few times and want to really move over in the future but due to it not having support for Adobe, I'm not sure what to do....

Monologue,
@Monologue@lemmy.zip avatar

you can check how well the games run with ProtonDB, as for adobe suite i might be in the minority but if your workflow absolutely depends on it i wouldn’t recommend switching to linux

Monologue,
@Monologue@lemmy.zip avatar

if you are feeling adventurous i would recommend slay the spire for the card games category

Monologue,

can you really verify they use e2ee? it’s not like you can look at the source code of their client or servers, all you can do is take their word for it and there have been companies lying about having e2ee before.

plus metadata collection, sure they might not able to collect what you send but who and when you send your messages are probably collected.

Monologue,
@Monologue@lemmy.zip avatar

not really, you can check the source code for signal’s client and server. same goes for matrix except you can even host your own matrix server. that is the difference of open source.

Monologue,
@Monologue@lemmy.zip avatar

no but i trust third party security audits and the freedom to do that. for my threat model this is fine.

it is not a matter of if i did it or not, it is a matter of if i could do that.

Monologue,
@Monologue@lemmy.zip avatar

you are missing the point, with an open source project you can choose to trust but with a close source project you have to.

it does not matter which i choose in the end as it only effects me.

Monologue,
@Monologue@lemmy.zip avatar

you don’t have to trust a company as you are free to compile the app yourself, that is just what i choose to do.

that being said i don’t think this conversation is leading anywhere and wasting both of our time, therefore i won’t be replying anymore, happy fediversing.

glad to see them not go down the vlemmy path

it is a wonderful program, there is also an extension called GS Connect for gnome users

or you can join a smaller instance that beehaw has not defederated and interact with both beehaw and lemmy.world communities

Monologue,
@Monologue@lemmy.zip avatar

that should be because lemmy.world did not defederate with beehaw, it only happened one way.

federation is not perfect, it might take a while for posts and comments to sync up so you might be able to see differences because of that. also in a smaller instance you might have to search the community by it’s full name to start federation (if nobody subscribed to that community first from your instance), luckily lemmyverse exists so you can search there first then look it up.

hope this helps :3

Monologue,
@Monologue@lemmy.zip avatar

so let me try to explain more clearly, beehaws defederation makes it not very useful to stay subscribed to beehaw communities from lemmy.world

you can still see posts from beehaw communities but you can not see any votes or comments, for example look at this post from beehaw and from lemmy.world as you can see from lemmy.world’s side it looks like a wasteland

what i meant was you can sign up to another small instance which is not defederated from beehaw like the one i am in, lemmy.zip and participate in both of the communities, also lemmyverse is a website that you can use to discover communities to subscribe to or instances to sign up.

feel free to pm me if you have more questions

Monologue,
@Monologue@lemmy.zip avatar

those comments and votes and are all from lemmy.world users though, what you are seeing is like lemmy.world users posting to that community and talking in their own little bubble that will never get seen outside of lemmy.world because it never will reach beehaw and distribute to other beehaw subscribers outside of the beehaw

Monologue,
@Monologue@lemmy.zip avatar

this wouldn’t solve any problem that can’t be solved with the current implementation of activitypub and would cause fragmentation in the community for both the userbase and developers. why fork when you can defederate?

plus you seem to be talking about mastodon servers as a single entity, it is not. every server can decide to federate or defederate with meta autonomously.

tdlr: no
