Nor does Android. Android uses Dalvik VM, which is not the same as JVM.

MeanEYE,
@MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

It’s not a titanium frame. It’s still same old aluminium, just PVD, that is to say thin layer over same material as before. It’s not going to make it any stronger.

MeanEYE,
@MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

Considering it’s only 1g lighter, not much of a selling point.

MeanEYE,
@MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

People actually need to stop doing Bethesda’s work for them. Release after release they just push out buggy and unfinished product and community fixes it for them while they somehow take credit. FO76 was a huge mess exactly because people couldn’t fix it. Bethesda is bad, and people need to see it as such. Paying full price for their products is downright insulting.

MeanEYE,
@MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

Typical Bugthesda. Am only wondering how did they get this big by only releasing buggy products. I can’t for the life of me remember a single product they have made that wasn’t buggy mess that community fixed for them time and time again without any compensation. Not only that community didn’t get any compensation, Bethesda tried to sell their work and pinch some more money.

First season was directed by Frank Darabont who is awesome at making great movies from written works of art. Then AMCunts saw this and fired him after awesome season one and replaced him with Glen Mazzara who never made anything worthy of note. They also doubled the number of episodes for same content and requested that more episodes are shot indoors to make everything earn more money. And it fucking worked.

That was completely expected. You give any company monopoly over anything and they will abuse it. This was Chrome dominating browser market. Microsoft did it with IE back in the day. Now Google is doing it again.

MeanEYE,
@MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

While true, Microsoft didn’t do it because of revenue. They did it to maintain monopoly and force people into depending on windows for corporate use. Thing they did rather well and it took us good part of the decade to break the spell.

MeanEYE,
@MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

Ah, “good” old non-funny “can’t exit Vim” “jokes” that never go out of style. Let’s just all agree you should go back to using browser to write your code up to limited size due to JS limitations and leave the rest of us to “suffer” with out archaic tool that does what it’s told without trying to be a smartass.

MeanEYE,

Am completely expecting this to be due to falling office sales or fear that people will realize they don’t need expensive Office every few years when WordPad has 90% of functionality for daily use.

I expect this will make a lot of people very angry since I know many users of WordPad.

MeanEYE,
@MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

Am sorry, but what? Who searches for drivers on Linux? I’ve been a user for decades now and searching is either don’t buy shit hardware or just do apt search.

Windows on the other hand is literally looking on support sites to find latest version.

MeanEYE,
@MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

ISA cards? That’s not even comparable. That’s 90s era, 30 years ago, 20 at best. Things have changed.

MeanEYE,
@MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

It’s kind of complex to follow through and they left out a lot of explaining so you have to use your brain. It’s a fun but not great movie. However it’s the only one with properly done time traveling logic and after watching it, you will see all other time traveling movies as a joke.

MeanEYE,
@MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

It’s not as well shot as it could have been and acting could be better. So great in some aspect, yes. Not so much in others. But it’s well worth the watch definitely.

MeanEYE,
@MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

In some cases it’s more practical as you can keep multitasking. Especially for work I like when people send me emails or chat messages instead of holding meetings or barging into office, even worse video calls.

MeanEYE,
@MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

Yes. I keep telling this to my business partners. They love to call to tell me what needs doing and I keep telling them, I can’t work while I talk to you. Send a message and it gets done in parallel.

MeanEYE,

Manufacturers claim the removal of the jack was to improve the water resistance. I have never dropped my phone in water and would be willing to risk it.

Let us not forget that S7 and S7 Edge had headphone jack and were waterproof.

MeanEYE,
@MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

Ever since version 3 of their phone I’ve been considering one of these but my needs are slightly different. But I love the idea of having such a flexible device.

MeanEYE,
@MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

I meant the argument of removing 3.5mm to make it everything waterproof is not holding because there are phones out there which are perfectly waterproof with 3.5mm jack.

MeanEYE,
@MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

Had this been emacs it would have been funny. But with Vim you don’t remember key bindings. Vim has operations and motions. Few od each and they are combined.

MeanEYE,

They changed nothing. It was all sweet-talk and no changes. There is still no prosecution for child molesters, still no action for all atrocities. He’s just PR man they put in place to stop the dumpster fire previous one was.

MeanEYE,
@MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

Okay, let’s play a different game then. What has changed with catholic church since he was elected. Mind you, not what he said will change, but actually changed?

MeanEYE,
@MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

Fish breed but Nessie fucks around for hundreds of years without a single shit washing ashore or a decent photo. In fact we live in a world of cameras, my phone has 5 of them right now, any of which would do just fine.

There’s a massive tourism industry based on this myth. I wouldn’t be surprised this was just an attempt to give it one more heart beat.

MeanEYE,

In my opinion, death penalty is never a solution. For many reasons, but one of the biggest ones being that countries with death penalty don’t have less crime for which death penalty is punishment, implying it doesn’t really work. Another reason being is that when government kills someone it’s doing it in the name of all, making us all murderers. Perhaps the biggest reason is making sure person actually did it. Law is not about who’s right but who argues best. Time and time again we’ve been proven this fact, especially when the rich are involved.

MeanEYE,
@MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

Same, but am standing strong on my decision. If they want to chase me away, I’ll find a different place.

MeanEYE,
@MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

Even if there were none, I wouldn’t budge. Call me stubborn, but I was fine when they moved from wanting a finger to wanting whole hand. But now they want an arm and a leg, preferably part of your soul. Yeah, I can live without it. Most of the content has been deteriorating in quality anyway thanks to their algorithm changes. Number of creators who make content which is not formulaic and is actually useful is shrinking constantly or migrating to other services.

MeanEYE,
@MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

There’s nothing over-engineered in Apple products. They are the least amount of effort and maximum amount of polish to dazzle the masses so people think price is justified and give feeling of quality.

Throughout the history they have failed to fix common and known issues in generations of laptops. They chose cheaper version of aluminium which caused the bending of the phones. They reduced cost of manufacturing by removing a single drop of glue beneath a single chip which resulted in number of their plus sized phones to lose touch functionality.

Over-engineering would mean devices are robust, easy to repair and almost never need a repair. Apple is anything but that and their solution is usually to suggest buying a new device or charge you like you are buying a new device. All you need to do is see Louis’ video on repeated engineering failures from Apple. Granted it’s an old video, but if you watch the video you will see Apple doesn’t really improve quality, just reduce price.

@MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

In your case am afraid it is survivor bias. We are not talking about individual cases here. If you want to go case by case basis I have never had ThinkPad last fewer than 10 years. In fact I never had ThinkPad die on me. But they do break just like any other machine. Many of Apple’s laptops had issues when you used them too hard because they would blow hot air on glued parts or parts sensitive to heat shortening their life span. I strongly recommend watching video I’ve linked.

MeanEYE,
@MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

Apple products are opposite of hardware porn. How can you call it as such when their solution for poor choice of solder compound, which resulted in GPU desoldering, was to glue piece of rubber which pushed on the GPU? How can you call it porn, when their SATA cables are constantly failing from 2011 models, constantly? How can you call it hardware porn when Apple cheaps out on single drop of glue to hold touch driver chip not to get broken resulting in Max series of phones massively dying after couple of years of use?

What you sound like is a victim of great marketing campaign.

MeanEYE,
@MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

Apple offers average turd polished to perfection. If you are looking to solve problems then you look at specs and what hardware/software can do for you. At that point Apple stops being viable option because just for the RAM upgrade itself you can buy a decent used ThinkPad laptop more powerful than Mac you are trying to buy.

Apple is a statement, just like Supreme is. Charge 150$ for plain white t-shirt and people buy it because they want to be part of the cult, not because it’s 150x higher quality cotton or more durable material. You buy it because of the name or because they have you by the balls, because Apple makes it very easy to enter their ecosystem, but impossibly hard to leave.

MeanEYE,
@MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

You do realize that for 500$+ you can safely enter audiophile territory with significantly higher quality and noise canceling. Not everyone is gullible to believe Apple makes best and for some people bare minimum would do just fine. For fucks sake you can get bone conducting bluetooth headphones for swimming at around 150$. Not to mention Sennheiser HD600 is in 300$ range, which is … so much better than anything Apple will ever produce.

MeanEYE,
@MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

Oh must be only these people who complained about them to the article author. It couldn’t possibly be survivor bias on your part or more importantly that Apple is at fault.

MeanEYE,
@MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

Then I apologize and strongly recommend you take a look at Framework laptop. That thing is truly modular to a point that you can upgrade CPU on a laptop, chose your own ports and repair pretty much everything. And machine comes in a metal body, very thing and lightweight.

MeanEYE,
@MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

You are contradicting yourself when you say you are willing to pay higher price to enhance your system. If you don’t understand what you are paying how do you know you are upgrading. Everyone seems to be focusing on that monitor stand as an example of Apple = expensive, when in fact everything is more expensive for no other reason than to milk your loyalty and habits.

I also disagree with the whole differentiation between user and tech person. Of course there are people who care about numbers more than they should, but in general you should care about what you are buying. If you go to buy a washing machine you don’t go and point finger and black and say I want this one. You check the amount of clothes it can take, you check if there’s a program you need. Same with buying literally anything. Is it a smart TV or not, how big is it? Are these shoes water proof or not? Etc. You don’t go on saying “as a walker and not a mountain climber I don’t care about shoe specs”. Of course you do. At least to a degree.

And let me tell you, as a user and not a tech person, 99% of your daily life problems is solved with literally any laptop, PC or phone out there right now. What you are looking for is style over substance. For something to look pretty and to be part of a group which has a habit of praising themselves for their choices. Problem is, you all live in a bubble now and think no other manufacturer can produce quality and looks at the same time. Which is wrong but distortion field is strong.

Want to prove me wrong? Next time you want to go buy a phone or a laptop or a car… just ask for random one. Since you don’t care about specs, screen size shouldn’t be the problem, nor storage space. Funny how not caring about specs but when buying a new device it’s never the last years model.

MeanEYE,
@MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

They are no black magic. ARM is simply better optimized for mobile devices and Apple being a walled garden with tightly controlled hardware and software, they had the ability to transition into ARM chis on laptops without much hassle. However ARM chips do suffer in performance and some other areas. That said, the rest of the gang is following up with this move. Won’t be too long before they lose even that advantage.

Also, I wouldn’t really call them a game changer. I understand what you meant by your statement, but as a laptop MacBooks are a really bad choice with almost zero repairability these days. From glued batteries, soldered memory to programmed chips which stop working if you move them to another board. All of this (and much more) combined with their repeated engineering failures with even simplest of things makes them extremely undesirable in my eyes. Problem is, people never realize there’s a problem until warranty program runs out and devices start massively dying. Those that do survive are touted as “Apple quality”, but millions of others remain forgotten.

MeanEYE,
@MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

If by rough launch you mean pretty much omitted majority of things they said will be in the game, then yes. Rough launch. And here I am worrying when indie devs don’t have enough time to fix minor bug in their games.

MeanEYE,
@MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

It strikes me as odd just how much fanboys can stretch their fandom of anything. Promise space and universe, best and the biggest ever. Deliver local park bench in average texture quality. Then after, now mandatory, apology JPEG on Twitter they release HD version of same texture and everyone goes “ooh, aaaah, it’s good now”. As if the rest was never promised. One needs look no further than Crowbcats videos for these downgrades.

Only company that did the right thing was Hello Games, who sat down and worked their ass of and gave all the fixes for free and implemented everything promised.

MeanEYE,
@MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

Well, the loop is no longer necessary apart from fixing your ship. I played it that way and completed a game without a single base. I had to place some buildings to progress with initial quest line but I never maintained it or got back to it for anything other than to progress quest line.

As for content, yes, there could always be room for more but it’s far from empty and boring. You can manage fleets now, manage villages, do daily quests with other people, etc. There are things to do. Things to discover. Hunting for unique ships is especially interesting as they are located in specific planets and specific universes so use of gates is necessary.

So far game had many DLCs, all of which were free. They sat down and worked hard until game was complete. CDPR on the other hand still doesn’t have many things they’ve promised and now there’s DLC for 30€, while base game is still 60€. Still unpolished and buggy, lacking content promised initially.

MeanEYE,
@MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

Oh for sure I’ve played better games and I can’t call it great. It’s an okay game and I have similar amount of hours in it. But I think company needs to be praised for not doing what virtually every other company does these days and that’s to make an apology video claiming it was a good lesson for them and next time they’ll do better and to thank us for trusting them with our money. But they had no issue selling pre-orders, ultimate and platinum editions while fully knowing product is not finished.

MeanEYE,
@MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

And yet another free DLC from Hello Games. Even if you don’t like the game, you can’t really be mad when they drop content updates for free like this on a regular basis.

MeanEYE,
@MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

Stallman from FSF would probably say only if the software is updateable. Firmware which can’t be changed is no different from hardware. I kind of agree, even though he said that about open source. But the point still stands. If printer can’t be used without account or always online or ink. Then it’s a feature. Whether you agree with it or not, vote with your wallet. However if they hide the feature that’s misleading advertising and it’s a different crime all together.

But what HP tried to do is to send over the air update that prevented printers from using recycled toner. Now that’s a bitch move.

MeanEYE,
@MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

Sadly, they earned a lot of money and this was just calculated expense of doing business. Pretty much all big companies operate like that. Abuse the system, rake in money, leave some aside for settling lawsuits. Forbidding them to sell products for a specific time or recalling all the printers and giving money back… that would make them think twice about next time.

MeanEYE,
@MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

His projects, perhaps. Most likely not. He himself will never face consequences for any of the problems he has caused. Law doesn’t exist for the rich. You can stall, bribe, move to a different country, buy immunity, buy witnesses. Do whatever you want and can to make the problem go away… and it will go away. Even if he does get convicted of anything punishment will be stern look and “now be good, okay?”…

MeanEYE,
@MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

That would imply him possessing ability to think that far ahead.
