imo there’s a big difference between someone venting about a desire for racial supremacy over people they see as genetic inferiors born to serve them with an overblown provocative statement, and people venting about being frustrated with men being misogynistic creeps to them with an overblown provocative statement.

Especially since my original post wasn’t even saying “kill all men”, I just used it as an example, like, I don’t think that all cis men are bad, there are plenty of great ones, but I’ve had enough older cis men tell me how “incredibly r*peable” I look in DMs or send me unsolicited dick pics and stuff, and like had another one being a creep at me earlier today, that I was feeling more frustrated with them earlier. So forgive me for inserting some of my frustration into a comment barely anyone will see under some random meme.

Lemmy.world pre emptively defederated them before hexbear federated with wider lemmy because hexbear’s a very active community of communists who’ve been on an undefederated fork of Lemmy for three years or so.

Hexbear users are very active in calling out anything they perceive as reactionary thought (transphobia, racism, ableism, homophobia, support for imperialism, colonialist apologia, etcetera) and pretty frequently get hostile about it, one of the stated intentions of them federating was to bully bigots into silence in order to make all of lemmy a more left wing space. Hexbear has a broader definition of what constitutes as reactionary thought than most people do though so they’ll frequently attack liberals too.

Basically they felt hexbear’s community wouldn’t mesh well with lemmy.world

We’ve never “pretended to support lgbt”, why would we? What would be the point of a load of alt right channers roleplaying as queer communists for years on an incredibly niche social media in the hope that eventually redditors would come to the site? And even supposing we did, and we were all just alt right types, if we’d spent years doing reading groups of queer theory together and kicking out transphobes and creating the most queer friendly space on lemmy just as an incredibly long extended bit then would the supposed communists we’re impersonating even take issue with that?

Like just use some critical thinking, at this point almost half of the sites users are trans and most of the rest are queer, most new users cite our radical opposition to queerphobia as their reason for joining, what evidence is there that we lie about being queer friendly? Like just check out !traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns or !anti_cishet_aktion or !transenby_liberation and tell me in good faith that all these people have been lying for years about being queer

There’s a big difference between wanting trump to die and thinking that trump will actually be executed or suffer any real consequences for his crimes beyond a slap on the wrist and maybe some house arrest - of course Trump won’t face justice, like Bush, like Clinton, like Obama and like Biden he will only ever fall upwards and live comfortably for the rest of his life. Wanting awful people to face justice isn’t “living in fantasy land” it’s just being dissaffected with the reality that evil people will never face any kind of justice - I also want my country to be actually accepting of trans people and for the NHS to work as it should and for the police to not be institutionally racist, but I know it’s not going to happen.

And regarding the identity politics thing, I agree regarding liberal identity politics when Im talking with a materialist communist who’s criticising it from a left wing perspective but you’re not a communist, you’re a “”“liberal”“” criticising it from a right wing perspective because you’re mad that trans people are daring to criticise Biden and to call you a transphobe for being transphobic.
If your “allyship” that is entirely conditional on trans people being respectable and heteronormative enough for you to accept entirely consists of talking down to those trans people you do accept and telling them that they’re not allowed to criticise Biden too much or your fragile “allyship” will be retracted then it isn’t worth shit.

I’m sympathetic to Ada because like she is very clearly trying her best but the influx of users from 196 has absolutely made it have a chaser problem. Imo though blahaj is fine as long as you block the 196 comm, I’ve been posting on my alt there a bit more bcs there’s less of a constant struggle vibe going on there than there is in hexbear even if the moderation isn’t quite as good imo.

here’s a relevant summary of Marx’s thoughts on the matter:

Business Cycles and the Tendency toward Recession. Marx noted that something more than greed is involved in the capitalist’s relentless pursuit of profit. Given the pressures of competition and rising wages, capitalists must make technological innovations to increase their productivity and diminish their labor costs. This creates problems of its own. The more capital goods (such as machinery, plants, technologies, fuels) needed for production, the higher the fixed costs and the greater the pressure to increase productivity to maintain profit margins.^(2)

Since workers are not paid enough to buy back the goods and services they produce, Marx noted, there is always the problem of a disparity between mass production and aggregate demand. If demand slackens, owners cut back on production and investment. Even when there is ample demand, they are tempted to downsize the workforce and intensify the rate of exploitation of the remaining employees, seizing any opportunity to reduce benefits and wages. The ensuing drop in the workforce’s buying power leads to a further decline in demand and to business recessions that inflict the greatest pain on those with the least assets.

Marx foresaw this tendency for profits to fall and for protracted recessions and economic instability. As the economist Robert Heilbroner noted, this was an extraordinary prediction, for in Marx’s day economists did not recognize boom-and-bust business cycles as inherent to the capitalist system. But today we know that recessions are a chronic condition and — as Marx also predicted — they have become international in scope.
