EthosLab - the OG Minecraft Youtuber that other Minecraft Youtubers watch; somehow still innovating on redstone and technical builds to this day despite Minecraft redstone already pushed to its limits long ago, and his multiplayer shenanigans on Hermitcraft and Life Series is top notch.
Adam Ragusea - cooking videos made for actual home cooks who just want no-flair no-fuss recipes, as well as food science videos exploring and explaining different cooking methods and food chemistry. I’m particularly a fan of how he encourages you to measure and cook by feel rather than by strictly following recipes.

Baldur’s Gate 3 may be very daunting at first, even with its genius tooltip system, so I just went straight into it with a Dragonborn barbarian with no real thought put into it other than “he’s hot and totes my new fursona”. You’d be surprised at how far you get and how much you pick up naturally over the next 80 hours of gameplay.
That being said, it’s still not for everyone, as much as it tries to be, and if even Overwatch is too complex for you already, it might just be that the evolving game design in the industry is becoming more misaligned with your tastes, and that gamers are becoming more and more serious about the video games they play.
I personally prefer the sound of the Koss KSC75s paired with the headband from another cheapo pair of headphones, but for some reason my one pair of Porta Pros outlasted all 3 of my KSC75s (one ear keeps going out, probably just need to replace the cable), so now I’m just using the Porta Pro drivers on the cheapo headband.
The Porta Pro headband clamps too tight for me but the cheapo ones are a great fit and it genuinely feels like I’m wearing nothing on my head. It’s amazing for both work and play. Been rocking this setup for at least 5 years now.
I actually really enjoy using Blueprints in Unreal Engine.
It feels like working with modular synths, and can get chaotic very quickly, which is honestly a ton of fun. It also forces you to have to stay organized and comment and format your blocks of code into something readable.
“Land-usage” is such a narrow-minded way to think about the implicit wants and needs of society. You sound like you’ve never been to actual cities, or never got your head far enough out of your arse to actually experience one.
North American suburban sprawl already proves that “enough land for us all to live comfortably” is a terrible way to live sociable lives and drains the economy due to massive swathes of those lands being used for roads and the maintenance of said roads.
I implore you to take a trip to almost any European city, and see for yourself what actual “comfortable living” for most people looks like.
They just might not be used to them. The way we do it with our couch is to literally buy 4 of those foam stairs and place it all along the front, and give them no choice but to use those stairs. For your bed, if you haven’t already, you can train them to use the ramp going down using treats.
I believe the flat ground is more comfortable to them, so I do recommend stairs instead of ramps; do take me with a grain of salt, though, for I am no expert.

I played a Barbarian with the bear aspect (and before that, the gear that granted you double carry capacity), and I still found myself encumbered since I kept looting all the heavy stuff I could sell.
Even after clearing out all the loot, I was still left with a ton of scrolls, potions, poisons, etc. that I was “saving up” for a potentially difficult encounter, all taking up 75% of my carry capacity.
It’s certainly a way to discourage hoarding and encourage you to use those consumables, especially since BG3 has an end, but I wish there’s a better method for it.
For example, I am terrible at Super Meat Boy, but just playing it has really improved how I play platformers and games that need faster imputs overall.
I have basically the same take from my years of raiding and leading in ESO (still top Argonian DPS babyyyyyyy), and it has also given me an unparalleled intuition when it comes to game and combat design, which comes in handy since I’m a game developer.
IMO, what is there in Acts 1 and 2 still more than justify BG3’s price tag and glowing reviews. While I wish Act 3 was more polished (and yes, the ending does feel a tad rushed and underwhelming), what is there in Act 3 is still plenty.
I’m hoping for an expansion for an Act 4 to bridge the gap between Act 3 and the ending, maybe set in the Upper City, with better outcomes for our companions. However, with all the branching choices that already exist in the game, simply the feat of having to create one more story might be a nightmare.

Why are people arguing about how an acronym is pronounced in the English language anyways? Who gives a shit? Many users would pay to have a subjectively better user experience. Sync was originally made for Reddit and had all that development time before Rexxit happened, and therefore, even after switching over to Lemmy, Sync is a more polished experience for many people compared to the FOSS alternatives.
I use Liftoff and Connect myself, and have never tried Sync. However, when Boost becomes available I’d love to try that out as well, as that was my Reddit app of choice.
On LCD displays dark mode actually uses more electricity; the brightness is always there, and you need to power the liquid-crystal layer to block that light to result in darker colours.
This whole myth about darker screens saving energy goes way back to the old CRT days when it actually did save some energy.
Fun fact! Many OLED displays dim the whole image not by making the diodes dimmer, but by pulsing the diodes fast enough to match the desired brightness of each pixel.
You can test this by taking your OLED phone, pulling up an image, and then waving it around at different brightness levels; the observed image would become blurry at high brightness levels, but would separate into distinct “frames” at lower brightness.
I’m not sure if every OLED does this; just from the phones that I have used.
EthosLab. He is my favourite YouTuber, and has been for over 10 years now. He’s super chill, and his Minecraft videos always make me happy. Sure, other channels may have more content or more entertainment value, but when it comes to sheer vibes, Etho is unmatched.
Play video games in English. Watch English-speaking YouTubers. Interact with people online using English. As long as she enjoys the content, proficiency in the language will follow.

If you only use your computer for the most basic of operations (browsing the Internet, watching Netflix, writing documents, etc.), Chromebooks are fine. However, I’m assuming this discussion is about laptops versus desktops.
Basically, all you need to care about between laptops and desktops is the balance between portability, power, and affordability. If you travel a lot, get a laptop. If you need the processing power for video editing or gaming, get a desktop. If you need to edit videos while traveling, get a gaming laptop. If you don’t need any of those, get a second-hand Dell desktop.
If you need to use a laptop but hate the keyboard and trackpad, nothing is stopping you from chucking a separate mechanical keyboard and a mouse into your backpack. A lot of people in tech actually just do that.

EDIT: I feel I need to clarify this stance. I’m a game developer, and I’m also sometimes an artist. I’ve been in discussions with my artist friends and they’re of the belief that AI is the enemy. I don’t believe that, but I also don’t blame them; artists’ careers are being displaced by AI, so of course they are justified in directing their anger at the immediate threat to their livelihoods. As for the ethical/legal quandary about AI art models being trained on publicly-available copyrighted images, well, I think that’s more of a grey area that I should not delve into right now.
AI art is inevitable, and there is no feasible way to slow it down, let alone stop it; even if the developed Western world decide unanimously to ban AI art, black markets for AI art models would still exist, and it would give Eastern countries (okay, mainly just China) the opportunity to really corner the market and further develop that technology for (nef)various purposes.
Every industry succumbs to automation sooner or later. I mean, it makes perfect economic sense to adopt automation to replace the existing workforce; robots don’t need to get paid. However, normally, when automation is introduced into an industry, the pace at which that technology is developed and implemented is slow enough for displaced workers to be able to learn new trades and pick up new careers before they, well, go broke.
The issue is that in this era of information, this AI technology is developing far too fast for that to happen, and couple that with the ever-increasing greed in today’s capitalism that ensures workers (including artists) are working long hours and are being paid barely enough to survive; they don’t have the time, energy, or funds to learn new trades or adapt to other creative endeavours that haven’t been taken over by AI yet.
We need a return to an era where art is not a method of livelihood, but rather an admired craft, simply for the purposes of art; that also comes with the extra bonus of lowering the worth of AI art. For all that to be possible, artists first need a way to stop worrying about having to make money to be able to afford food and housing.
That’s where UBI comes in. Again, capitalism, the richest 1% hoarding 50% of the world’s wealth, yada yada, just tax those rich fucks and give that money to everyone; boom, UBI. Once artists (and workers in general) no longer have that threat of starvation, 1. they can take all the time they need/want to learn new crafts and careers, 2. they can force corporations to offer workers better treatment and pay, especially when they can afford to quit toxic work environments.
Some of the best gear in ESO come from their paid DLCs and Chapters. Technically locked behind a paywall, but you’ll still have to farm the gear yourself.
The microtransactions themselves only offer cosmetics, consumables (that aren’t more powerful than the craftable options), and utility stuff (race-change tokens, and skipping some of the skillpoint grind).
There is a player market for exchanging Crowns (microtransaction currency) for gold, and another player market for buying raid clears with gold. Raiding (called Trials) offer some of the best PvE gear. You don’t need to buy clears if you’re skilled enough to run those Trials and can find groups to do it with you.
If you just want to enjoy the game without worrying about min-maxing your build, all the base-game and craftable options will do you just fine.
Liftoff - my current app of choice. It’s very fast, supports the gestures I need, and while it lacks a bit in appearance customization, it makes up for it in speed and features.
Connect - I originally wrote it off due to the inability to disable swipe gestures, though I tried to switch back to it after that feature was added. It’s now a very pleasant experience, with a lot of customization! The only downside is that it is still slower than Liftoff at the moment.
Jerboa - decent, but buggy.
Lemmotif - no features, no logins, no customization, no posting, no nothing; just pure, blazingly fast, Lemmy doomscrolling.
