FluffyPotato,

Funnily enough here the prices of fast food chains have risen so sharply that the fancy hipster burger places are now priced the same or even cheaper. Like a double cheeseburger at a McDonalds is 5.50 euros but a local burger joint with burgers twice as big, filling and so much tastier are 6 euros, it’s a pretty simple choice.

FluffyPotato,

Meanwhile France is doing a police state and Italy elected fascists…

FluffyPotato,

This sounds like Australian spider propaganda

FluffyPotato,

This was the case when I checked out crunchyroll years ago, there were so many shows that didn’t have season 1 in my country and well the selection was abysmal to begin with.

FluffyPotato,

Oh yea, streaming services have never had much of a selection in my country so the high seas are the only option and Plex combined with sickchill and couchpotato are a better user experience too.

FluffyPotato,

Why smell good if not for smelling?

FluffyPotato,

I just made a new account and deleted the old one when I needed to change the name. It’s stupid but it worked.

FluffyPotato,

GoG doesn’t even have a Linux version so yea, there is no competition. Some games on GoG that are natively available in Linux have an installer for manual install but that’s it.

FluffyPotato,

Didn’t this already get canceled?

FluffyPotato,

Pretty much anything containing some form bread, like pastries, pizza and well bread, is commonly made with yeast which is also a fungus just like mold.

FluffyPotato,

Is this the US libertarian which means ancap or the rest of the world libertarian which is a socialist?

FluffyPotato,

Mostly on the left actually, libertarian only refers to ancaps in the US where it was co-opted from its original meaning for socialist with anti state leanings. Ancaps basically don’t exist outside the US except for rare and lone individuals so it’s still has its original meaning in the rest of the world.

Who's winning the war in Ukraine?

The media won’t give me great answers to this question and I think this I trust this community more, thus I want to know from you. Also, I have heard reports that Russia was winning the war, if that’s true, did the west miscalculate the situation by allowing diplomacy to take a backseat and allowing Ukraine to a large...

FluffyPotato,

Britain has the geopolitical relevance of the North Sentinel island and Boris can’t even control his hair not to mention a foreign nation. Even if he told Ukraine to not negotiate why would they listen?

FluffyPotato,

But why? The US has plenty of people to deliver a message like that that would actually be believable, like if Boris told another country that the US wants this or that it just would sound like he’s lying. This whole thing sounds too convoluted and ridiculous to be true.

FluffyPotato,

Huh weird, I had the exact same issue on Windows and I solved it by switching to Linux. It was triggered by using too much bandwidth on local network so transferring stuff between my fileserver was impossible.

FluffyPotato,

Nah, it’s just American politics imported. Estonian far right party tried it with gay people but it got them ridiculed instead because same sex marriage wasn’t even legan then but they made it into a hot enough of an issue that after losing our government signed a law that does legalise it starting next year.

I’m guessing Estonia will get the “save the children” narrative for our next national election, I’m hoping that will end up making stuff better for trans people instead.

FluffyPotato,

Wow, this definitely is the most insane claim I have seen in the last 3 months at least.

Younger users of Lemmy: Did you ever love a game that you just really sucked at?

So I was watching a few youtubes and remembered how the vast majority (of like the ten) nes games me and my sister had were hard as all hell. I loved to play Little Nemo and Street Fighter 2010 but I am pretty sure I never made it past the third level of either. Let alone infamously hard games like The Lion King....

FluffyPotato,

I wasn’t expecting to call myself young but I guess I never did experience any games that were just brutal though I did get into gaming a bit later in life. The earliest game I played was Warcraft 3 and the main campaign was easy enough, some custom maps were harder but nothing really hard so 20 years ago games weren’t really harder. The hardest thing in any game I have experienced in about 20 years of gaming was Midir with a magic build in dark souls 3 which I never did beat.

FluffyPotato,

Nah, Outer Worlds was pretty good. Writing and freedom of choice were stellar, RPG aspects were also really well done, the game was just short and felt small. Starfield doesn’t have any aspects that were actually good, everything is average at best.

FluffyPotato,

Hair and skincare, especially since it’s not even more expensive if I buy from a local store that sells those products in bulk.

I usually actually prefer the local knockoffs, it’s usually better and uses locally sourced ingredients. Like soft drinks from the US taste sickeningly sweet and I really don’t like them but there are plenty of locally made soft drinks that are great.

FluffyPotato,

Libertarian still means anarchist pretty much everywhere, the US is the only place I know where it doesn’t. Ancaps don’t really exist outside of the US too at least not in any numbers to be relevant.

FluffyPotato,

Every time I see news about the US I’m more glad I don’t live there. How the hell are your only choices a fascist cult leader and a genocide supporter? How is the most armed country so compliant?

FluffyPotato,

That’s a common misconception. Nazi scientists were surprisingly incompetent, like they didn’t document shit, no control or even reason for doing what they did. Most of it seemed to exist just to torture people and the results were just useless. Because of how shit they were as scientists they didn’t even learn about torture.

Oh and another shining example was when Nazies got flat earthers in their rocketry department who did not account for the curvature of the earth thus missing every time at long range. Also any evidence that counteracted their science was called Jewish science and discarded.

FluffyPotato,

Didn’t some distro remove hardware transcoding support for some non-free codecs for AMD hardware? I remember being really pissed at Manjaro for that a while ago when I noticed Plex was devouring my CPU. Maybe something related to that if you got AMD and hardware acceleration is forced?

FluffyPotato,

The previous place I was a sysadmin for was 3 girls in the Linux team (including me) and one guy who was a junior sysadmin and my wife also prefers Linux so I know more girls who use Linux than guys IRL. It’s a different situation online but than again I don’t bother correcting people if they think I’m a guy online.

FluffyPotato,

It could be a difference between Europe and the US. Here in Estonia it’s pretty common for women to be in IT. Like the majority of the first level support at my current job are women. Higher tier teams are pretty evenly split too except the Microsoft team, they only have one woman currently.

Could be how tech gets marketed in Europe since I never felt that it was aimed at boys here but I have seen people in the US mention how it’s basically aimed solely at boys.

FluffyPotato,

Ah, that explains the time when I worked for a company in Denmark and whenever everyone across Europe got together in the same room it was a massive sausage fest. I always though that was weird.

FluffyPotato,

Obviously what Hamas does is terrible but the fact that Israel is doing the same shit as a terrorist organisation while causing magnitudes more death and suffering which will also create more support for Hamas in Palestine is quite telling.

FluffyPotato,

As a European who doesn’t know much about the states: This is pretty accurate. I would exchange gators for florida man and I don’t know what the cars and crime one is but otherwise it’s spot on.

FluffyPotato,

Ah, I have heard of Detroit from probably some movie but I didn’t know it was associated with cars or crime.

FluffyPotato,

Not a surprise considering China has been pissing off its neighbors by stealing territory around the south China Sea and they pretty much moved to the coast of the Philippines with that.

Honest question: what was Hamas' long-game with respect to kidnapping Israelis? Did they think Israel would just negotiate rather than retaliate?

It just seems crazy to me given the power imbalance. A cynical part of me suspects that things are playing out exactly as some evil strategists hoped they would, which, given all the children dying, is super-depressing....

FluffyPotato,

I’m guessing they though they could use hostages to prevent Israel from just bombing everything and everyone in Gaza as revenge and possibly also trade for something. Too bad Israel gave no shit about hostages and are just bombing everyone anyways, hostages or not.

FluffyPotato,

Does Google even give results that aren’t AI generated? I can only get results I want if I use my native language or add site:reddit.com in the end.

FluffyPotato,

Throw in an extra 60k and you get a 3 room apartment in the center of Tallinn with a balcony and a view across the whole city.

FluffyPotato,

Looks like the 3 room one was bought and prices went up a bit but here’s a 2 room one: kv.ee/muua-2toaline-korter-2018-aastal-valminud-s…

FluffyPotato,

Tallinn is the capital so that’s where the prices are highest here.

FluffyPotato,

Fuck that stereotype. I’m in a lesbian relationship and getting ready for either of us is putting on pants and possibly a jacket.

FluffyPotato,

Oh yea, in like the 15 years online when people assume I’m a guy I don’t bother to correct anyone anymore. The default assumption is that everyone is a dude, no matter how pink your profile pic is.

The only exception is voice chat for obvious reasons but if you play online games with voice chat you only make the mistake of speaking a few times until you learn.

FluffyPotato,

All tankies seem to want is a strongman dictator and to hate the US. I don’t care about the US but I’m definitely opposed to having a strongman dictator. Like if there was a group that wanted 90% of what I did but also wants to form an ethnostate, I would not work with that group.

FluffyPotato,

The USSR was better for Russia than what came before, for all the satellite states they annexed and stole resources from they were worse.

If the US is disappearing people into forced labor camps and working them either close to death or to death now doesn’t make it a good thing when the USSR did it.

FluffyPotato,

The baltics are probably the best example of states harmed by USSR imperialism.

The USSR was unbelievably oppressive, especially to the annexed satellite states, the US being the same seems rather irrelevant, also as I pointed out it mostly benefitted the Russian people, not the annexed states they controlled.

Also I definitely need a source for the majority of people currently in ex soviet satellite states saying life was better under the USSR. Saying stuff like that here will most likely get you punched because pretty much anyone older than 40 either lost someone personally to the USSR occupation or knows someone who did.

FluffyPotato,

The dissolution of the soviet union caused quite a lot of economic issues in countries more integrated into it’s economy so a poll that says a country was harmed by the dissolution isn’t saying much. I’m pretty sure quite a few German citizens would say they were harmed by the fall of the Nazi regime when it fell, that has no bearing on which was better or even which people prefer. Also in the poll for that source it seems the most anti USSR countries were skipped for some reason.

Also the living standards of 2011 Lithuania and Ukraine must have been pretty bad, I’m assuming that would also be the case for countries like Moldova too but that study only covers the 3. Lithuania is a bit of a surprise though but I doubt the numbers are anything close to that now as quality of life in the baltics has improved massively since the USSR.

FluffyPotato,

Rimworld is Linux native so you got nothing to worry about when it comes to Proton. Someone could make malware that specifically targets Linux though and distribute it with the Linux version but I doubt they would bother.

Gamers who have gamed for a long time

do you find it difficult to get into games? I’ve got Epic Games and Steam Games libraries chock-full of classic top-tier games along with many other newer games like Stray or 2077, and a bunch of indie titles. I just can’t be bothered to download and install them, much less try to get into the characters and storylines. Used...

FluffyPotato,

Most of my friends don’t play video games anymore but I love em more than when I was a kid. Like in school I had no time to play but now I can work from home and I can automate lots of it so plenty of time for hobbies.

The only issue is my tastes are rather niche, I think I finished every story and choice focused RPG where you make your own character. I do like games like Stardew Valley or Minecraft and I play those while a new RPG comes along.

FluffyPotato, (edited )

Yea, I was banned for rule 2 for saying hexbear and lemmygrad ban you for disagreeing in reply to someone saying lemmy.world wants an ecochamber.

Also a comment got removed where I said that both hamas and Israel are bad for killing civilians. Apparently that violated rule 1 of no bigotry.

Some sussy stuff is going on in their mod team for sure.

FluffyPotato,

Yea, I once got banned for saying hexbear and lemmygrad will ban you for disagreeing. Lemmy.ml is a weird place.

FluffyPotato,

If you want manual updates then windows 8 is the only option. You can turn off auto updates on Windows 10 pro with a GPO but it’s still install all or nothing then. You could also try running it as a virtual machine if you just need it for one program.
