The federal government is proposing financial incentives for farmers in lieu of cutting enteric methane emissions that are released in the air when cows burp.
Because many companies are making minor, cheap solutions so they can sell carbon tax credits. Many green projects are just another profit generation scheme. Very rarely is any real change being worked on.
Wrongo. Carbon emissions are nowhere near as damaging to our continued life on earth as much as the waste dumping that’s destroying the oceans. So this is a minor issue on the lesser issue of climate change. The only reason anyone cares about carbon emissions is because carbon tax credits are a huge market. No one is discussing how to stop dumping waste.
What? Government incentives drive company decisions all the time. The US highway system, EV, semiconductors, oil, pretty much every major development in modern society is backed by government incentives.
Big farm companies will engage in “burp reduction,” gain carbon tax credits for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, then sell them to fossil fuel companies for a huge profit. Any minor benefit immediately becomes a net negative for the environment overall.
“…beef cattle operations with an opportunity to generate offset credits that they can sell.”
This creates a market for selling beef cattle credits. They have to sell the credits to someone. Do you think a company that is also engaging in these incentives would buy the credits? Or maybe the credits would be purchased by companies that aren’t helping the environment? It’s the second one, btw.
The Soviet Union’s brutality is what won the war. Russia’s current brutality is what will cost them the war. These two countries are not the same and these two historical events are not the same. The Soviet Union had to take desperate measures or be considered by the Nazis. Putin is the aggressor that’s trying to expand his empire and use Ukraine as a proxy war with the West.
I rocked a Samsung Alias 2 for 4 years before I got an iPhone 5. The e-ink keyboard was awesome how it changed when you flipped the screen open to portrait or landscape.
As a player I’m constantly trying to derail the game and take the story in an unforseen direction. As someone that’s looking for surprises and not trying to stay on the rails, I totally appreciate and applaud the idea of using mechanics I’m not familiar with. If I were that barbarian, I’d be very excited to have died like that.
I love I Wanna Be The Guy and I love a DM that plays dirty and blindsides the players. If I die I die and I’ll just make a new character. I’m a good loser.
Back when they built highways, they used them to segregate neighborhoods. Also, the US has dog shit public transit. Buses are terrible and trains are barely existent. The entire country is built around automobiles.
I actually don’t think I’ve used it for anything other than working through code. It wouldn’t take hours to get my code running if chatgpt weren’t such a stubborn moron. It’s like if a 6 year old had all the answers to the universe.
The NLRB just made a new ruling that states if companies are found to have committed illegal acts during unionization election efforts will be forced to immediately bargain with the union rather than just have to run the election again. We’re still not as strong as Europe when it comes to workers rights, but we’re getting better.
Yeah, the whole point is having a legally binding contract that sets wages, hours, and working conditions. Also the “going through your union instead of your manager” is super dumb. It’s like saying, “why talk to your lawyer when you can just confess to the police?”
Maybe I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure UAW is the best paying strike pay in the US. It’s also the 6th biggest union. The point is that the company has a much bigger advantage for surviving a strike than workers do. Getting unemployment would help level the playing field.
Small ones that you don’t hear about. Locals with less than 200 members wind up striking much longer because they’re less threatening. The longest strike in US history was 11 years. Strikes can last longer than you might think. The company just hires scabs. A couple years ago, 200 miners were on strike for 1029 days under the United Steelworkers.
A number that isn’t taken into account is GM spent $3.4 billion in stock buybacks in the last 12 months. They count this as operating expenses even though it only serves to artificially inflate their share prices so they can pay dividends to shareholders. A truly unnecessary expense that could be used for workers.
Like can I just jump in my boat and go? Do I have to alert any authority about my trip? What are the chances the coast guard boards my boat to search it? How do you find a marina in Mexico? Do I have to alert the Mexican government of my trip? I assume I need a passport....
Yeah you need a passport. Just look up any marina and go there. Coast guard might search your boat, but they can do that to anyone. You don’t need to alert either government.
I heard it on a podcast called Writing Excuses. It’s more of a feeling thing. You ever feel like, at the end of a movie, things just feel kind of off? It’s usually because they messed up their order of things. So like, if little Jimmy is solving a murder mystery, then he gets trapped inside a maze, then he encounters some deeply buried emotional trauma; then he has to resolve those issues in that order. He can’t solve the mystery until he leaves the maze, and he can’t leave the maze until he confronts his emotional trauma.
Plot threads are like nesting dolls. You can open as many as you want, but you have to close them in the reverse order. Next time your watching a show or movie, keep track of when they open and close plot threads and you’ll get it. When it’s done right, the audience will feel a good sense of resolution and they won’t even know why.
Capitalism is not “when you have markets.” I totally agree that it’s important to have well regulated markets. But capitalism perverts democracy with bribery and lobbying. Democratic Socialism is when you have a democratic government and a democratic economy.
Oblivion was certainly not the best, but it was a broken mess of a game. It needs a remake because despite all of its bugs and flaws, it was still a very good game.
You’re showing statues of Lenin in countries in which the Dictatorship of the Proletariat failed to cede power to the working class and establish a socialist economic structure.
When Lenin took power, Russia had nothing. It was in the middle of WW1, there were regular famines, almost everyone was illiterate, and it was in no condition to establish a socialist economic plan. So, Lenin created a temporary economic model called The Dictatorship of the Proletariat. This is a centrally planned economy designed to rapidly develop infrastructure and industry in a country that has none. Lenin was already ceding power to the worker’s councils when he died. Stalin decided he liked The Dictatorship of the Proletariat and did not cede power back to the worker’s councils.
Those countries never experienced Communism. They never even experienced socialism. They destroyed those statues because they hated The Dictatorship of the Proletariat. Living in a system designed for a short temporary economic boom for decades is no fun.
Holodomor was caused by the Kulaks burning all the grain and slaughtering all the livestock because collectivization threatened their profits. Stalin didn’t burn all the grain and slaughter all the cattle, the Kulaks did.
