Earthwormjim91,

You think the people that scream about credit scores have ever looked at and analyzed their credit report lol

Earthwormjim91,

Literally nobody is making you apply for lines of credit outside your income levels… that’s entirely on you.

There’s no game to play. You take out credit, you pay it back. You have revolving credit, you pay the balance every month and don’t carry debt. It’s literally that simple.

I have never had to apply for an increase in credit limits, pay your bills and banks/credit card companies will just do it automatically.

It’s really not hard in the least.

Earthwormjim91,

Yes, I have indeed lol. I had a year where our hvac went out and our son second child’s birth bill which racked up thousands that we had to pay out of pocket. We had tens of thousands in unexpected bills that year.

We had to drain most of our savings and take out a large loan to cover it all. Guess what I did. Paid the damn loan back.

Earthwormjim91,

Lmao dude I was born to white trash drug addicts and never lived in one place for more than 9 months because they could never afford rent and kept getting kicked out. I have lived on my own since I was 15

Born on third base my ASS. I have worked my ass off since I was a teenager. I’ve lived in friends storm cellars, couches, and my truck at times to get where I’m at now.

I made saving a priority since my first job working at fuckin Burger King in high school.

Earthwormjim91,

I can guarantee you can get a pretty nice hotel for less than that without bullshit fees. Anyone still using Airbnb or any of the other short term rentals deserve what they get.

Earthwormjim91,

I have never had a hotel charge bullshit fees. Rental rate and tax are all I have ever paid.

Earthwormjim91,

Sure, but this is 2 guests unless they’re planning on lying about it. In which case, double whammy when they get hit with another fee for extra people.

Earthwormjim91,

It’s probably just one of the flavor enhancers like Mio given he is reusing a Fiji bottle, which is just plain water.

Earthwormjim91,

That doesn’t answer the question….

Earthwormjim91,

They haven’t made it in two years now. They stopped with the 13.

Earthwormjim91,

They never officially discontinued the mini line in the first place. They just didn’t release new models after the 13. The announcement that they discontinued it was that they were discontinuing production of the 13 mini, which they had kept making alongside the regular 13 after the 14 lineup was released. Up until the release of the 15s, you could still buy the 13 mini new from Apple. Discontinuing the 13 mini killed off any way to buy one new.

There’s still strong rumors that they might use the mini frame for the next SE model. It has pretty close to the same external dimensions as the 3rd gen SE, but would bring more screen real estate in the same package since it would be edge to edge instead of have the bezels. And it would also fit the rumored “release a mini every few years” strategy since they only release an SE every couple of years anyway.

The SE cannibalized mini sales because, for the most part, people that wanted the smaller size cared more about price than features, and the SE was the same size and quite a bit cheaper. Replacing the old iPhone 8 based SE with an iPhone mini based SE would kill two birds with one stone. It would let them use up a bunch of the excess stock they have laying around due to the poor sales, would bring the mini to a lower price point which would make it more popular, and would remove the competition between the SE and the mini.

Earthwormjim91,

The base galaxy s is the same size as a base iPhone. 6.1 inch screen.

There’s nothing mini about it in the least. The iPhone mini had a 5.4 inch screen.

Earthwormjim91,

Lemmygrad and lemmy.ml we’re both started by the Lemmy devs themselves.

Samsung joins Google in RCS shaming Apple (www.theverge.com)

Samsung has released a new video in support of Google’s #GetTheMessage campaign which calls for Apple to adopt RCS or “Rich Communication Services,” the cross-platform protocol pitched as a successor to SMS that adopts many of the features found in modern messaging apps… like Apple’s own iMessage.

Earthwormjim91,

Samsung has 0 credibility here because they just use Google messages and Google’s Jibe implementation of RCS.

If Google drops Jibe for something else, it means Samsung is as well.

RCS isn’t really a standard anymore either. Once Google put out their own proprietary Jibe implementation, everyone just adopted that instead of putting in the work to implement it themselves. All the carriers in the US use Jibe as their RCS backend, and Samsung moved to using Google Messages as their default messenger. And all RCS messages go through Google servers.

If Google decides to do something else and drop Jibe, like they have with every other messaging service they have had, that’s it for RCS.

Earthwormjim91,

Yeah that whole 6 month difference in release between the two.

Earthwormjim91,

New Jewish country? It was a Jewish nation first and Jews have lived there FAR longer than Arabs.

This is more like if the US lost WWII and the axis decided to give the Native Americans back their territories.

Earthwormjim91,

It gets really into the weeds.

As an ethnic group, Arabs trace back to Abraham through his first son Ishmael from his concubine Hagar.

Jews trace back to Abraham through his son Isaac and grandson Jacob, who was renamed Israel.

Earthwormjim91,

According to the Abrahamic tradition, Arabs are descendants of Abraham through his son Ishmael.[73] Islamic sources state that Abraham brought Hagar and Ishmael to Mecca.[74] The 14th century Arab historian Ibn Kathir mention that the pre-Islamic Arabs considered Ishmael as their patriarch.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arabs

Tracing their lineage to Abraham and Ishmael is literally the common element that ties them together as an ethnic group.

Earthwormjim91,

Which isn’t really relevant because that fairy tale is the common thing that ties them together. That’s what a fucking ethnic group is. It’s not a race or anything.

An ethnicity or ethnic group is a grouping of people who identify with each other on the basis of perceived shared attributes that distinguish them from other groups. Those attributes can include a common nation of origin, or common sets of ancestry, traditions, language, history, society, religion, or social treatment.

Religion, ancestry, and tradition are the big things that join Arabs together as an ethnic group.

Earthwormjim91,

Palestine was never a country…

The entire levant was part of the Ottoman Empire.

Earthwormjim91,

Well it was WWI in the first place, and the levant was part of the Ottoman Empire which was part of the central powers and did take part in the war.

Earthwormjim91,

There is no such thing as “their land” in that portion of the world. The little chunk of land has changed hands, extremely violently, hundreds of times. And Palestine was never a country to begin with. It was part of the Ottoman Empire for a few hundred years before the Brits took it after WWI and ruled it under mandate from the League of Nations.

The ottomans took it from the Mamluk Sultanate, who took it from the Ayyubid Dynasty, who took it from the Kingdom of Jerusalem, who took it from the Arabs in the first crusade, who took it from the Byzantine empire in the Muslim conquest, who took it from the Roman Empire, who took it from the Greeks, who took it from the Macedonians and Alexander the Great, who took it from the Persian Empire, who took it from the Babylonians, who took it from the Jews under the Kingdom of Judah, who was ruled by the Assyrians as a vassal state. With about 1000 different wars in between those where it changed hands.

The entire Levant has been conquered, divided up, split apart, conquered again, been part of empires where the entire levant was one region, and changed hands over and over and over again violently. Israel and Palestine have been part of Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, and Arabia over the years.

There’s no such thing as “giving them back their land”. Because there’s never really been an independent state there to begin with. Everyone that’s ever lived there took it by killing the people that lived there before them.

Earthwormjim91,

Where do private schools come in to this?

It was a PUBLIC high school that pulled her scholarship. Learn to read you fuckin troglodyte.

Earthwormjim91,

It’s not uncommon in midwestern states that border Canada. I used to get it in Michigan all the time. I’ve also got a burger place by me in Colorado that does a great poutine.

But really we just don’t have the right kind of cheese in large enough quantity to be nationwide.

Earthwormjim91,

5280 burger bar. They have a place in Denver and one in Westminster.

Earthwormjim91,

Simone may be the greatest athlete in general of all time.

Earthwormjim91,

It’s not an eagle though. It’s a thunderbird, a Native American symbol.

Earthwormjim91,

How shocking. The furry defining pedophilia and cartoons of people fucking kids.

Earthwormjim91,

Nor is ozone pollution related to the hole in the ozone layer.

No idea why that’s actually thrown in at all.

Earthwormjim91,

It’s actually usually the opposite. Women get custody more because men are less likely to fight for custody. When men do fight they tend to get custody more often.

Earthwormjim91,

You can’t really price gouge goods with elastic demand though, where demand rises and falls with the price. Luxury goods like streaming services even doubly so because they are in no way, shape, or form necessary things. If people pay the price for a luxury good that they don’t need, then by definition it’s a fair price.

Netflix isnt a necessity. Don’t like the price, don’t buy the service. It really is that simple.

Also, price gouging is only illegal in the US for necessities in declared civil emergencies.

Earthwormjim91,

Except for the ones with accent marks on them…

Determine Charging Speed

Now that the 15 has USB-C, I’d like to see if it correctly supports USB-PD. Is there any way to tell the charging speed when you plug in your phone to charge? With my Android it would say “Charging Slowly”, “Charging” and “Charging Rapidly” or I could use some apps. I haven’t found anything with my iPhone though.

Earthwormjim91,

No it doesn’t. Both the regular and pro lines support 20W max charging.

Earthwormjim91, (edited )

CR also said the iPhone 6 Plus passed too, and Apple ended up admitting that they knew it would bend.

Earthwormjim91,

There’s a lot more capability with USB-C audio though. Even entirely discounting Bluetooth, there are plenty of high quality USB-C headphones out there that blow the pants off of what you could do with a 3.5mm jack.

Earthwormjim91,

Except you’re not limited to the phones hardware and space constraints with USB. You can put the DAC, you know the thing that does that conversion, in the headphone end now, whereas you couldn’t with 3.5mm because you can push power over USB. Meaning you have the ability to get headphones with a much better DAC, which will provide better audio quality.

It also frees up space in the phone for more battery, different radios, and other things.

Earthwormjim91,

Uh, since Apple removed it they’ve added the mmWave antenna, the ultrawideband chip, the satellite antenna, and a thread radio.

Earthwormjim91,

Looks great, but I’ll never understand pre-slicing a steak you cook yourself.

It’s good for presentation in a restaurant, but it gets so cold so quick once you slice it unless you have plates stored in a warmer like a restaurant.

Earthwormjim91,

Because they launch these alongside paying customer payloads.

Starlink is FAR from the only thing they launch. A customer pays for a payload, and any volume or mass left over in the launch is filled with small starkink sats.

They have basically $0 on launch costs because of this. They just toss them in when they have someone else paying for the rocket.

Earthwormjim91,

Also, most of their starlink launches are done when someone else is paying for a launch too. Rarely do they have a launch that doesn’t have mass or volume left over, and they just shove starlink sats into that as a secondary payload.

Elon is dumb as fuck with a lot of decisions, but Gwen shotwell knows what the fuck she’s doing.

Earthwormjim91,

Not from low earth orbit…

That’s kinda the whole point of these. They’re designed to deorbit and fall back, not stay in orbit. They would need far fewer GEO sats but they have much higher latency and don’t fall back when they die.

Earthwormjim91,

Unless the coasters are glued together, yes.

Earthwormjim91,

Yeah this is one where I don’t think you should ever get out. Ain’t worth it.

If it’s dependent on him being compliant with meds and doesn’t have someone constantly ensuring he’s on them, it isn’t gonna end well. What happens when he just decides he’s fine and doesn’t need them anymore?

Earthwormjim91,

He ended someone’s life. That alone should remove him from society forever.

Now his entire release hinges on him being compliant with his meds to not end someone else’s life.

Earthwormjim91,

And you might have an argument if there weren’t a couple dozen different phone manufacturers.

Nobody is forced to buy an iPhone and participate in the Apple ecosystem. They’re far from the only option.

Earthwormjim91,

Windows largely does actually have a monopoly though. They make up 70% of the desktop OS market. Apple makes up less than 30% of the smartphone OS market share with Android making up over 70% across those dozens of Android OEMs.

Again, nobody is forcing anyone to buy an iPhone. There’s a plethora of competition for phones and Apple is a minority player in the market. Real hard to have an anti trust/monopoly case against a player that doesn’t even hold a majority market share.

Earthwormjim91,

Windows had a grater than 95% market share during their biggest anti trust suit.

That’s a legitimate monopoly.

Apple is nowhere near a monopoly. There’s a plethora of competition.
