Draghetta,

Isn’t “protecting content” on a public platform kinda moot?

Draghetta,

Infinite how? Both countries have millions of military aged men, before either country actually runs out of manpower there would have to be a hundred Stalingrad battles. Clearly the population amount is not the bottleneck here. For either of them to use manpower as a “weapon” they’d have to throw naked men at machine guns hoping that bullets can’t be resupplied faster than they can draft.

Russia like any other nation has a very limited amount of manpower that they can leverage before consequences start to hit. So far they have avoided another mobilisation, but if the numbers dwindle enough they’ll have to do it and that is going to be very unpopular. They can’t afford to grind their men the way they’re doing but they’re doing it anyway, probably because they want to project the image of “endless manpower Russia” - if they can keep the farce long enough then maybe Ukraine’s allies will give up.

By believing this tankie nonsense you’re helping them. Don’t.

Draghetta,

Bruh the current government has been staunchly anti Russian since its election and was actually pushing for stronger aid to Ukraine even before, while other parties wanted to only give them “defensive weapons” whatever that meant.

Hate on Meloni all you want but do it for the right reasons. Sucking Russian dick ain’t one of them. You’re thinking of salvini.

Draghetta,

I agree football is great but don’t the yanks call it “soccer”?

Draghetta,

jifts for Christmas

Yes, the time when you eat gingerbread and drink ginormous amounts of gin, if you get the gist

Let’s hang everybody who claims that gif is pronounced jiff, but not because (as you seem to imply) that’s not how “gi” is read in English because nothing is read always like anything ever in English

Draghetta,

All words that start with “gif” have a hard g because there is only one: gift. If “gift” had a soft g, then all the words that start with “gif-“ would have a soft g. If it only has one case of application it’s an accident, not a rule.

And again, saying this as somebody who agrees on “gif” having a hard g despite the delirious claims of its inventor.

Draghetta,

When they are actually in Kralovec

Draghetta, (edited )

I mean you’re not wrong, but discovery is quite objectively garbage. It lacks good writing, good characters and anything that makes it a Star Trek other than using the IP. No philosophy, no exploration, no character arcs. Jason Isaacs is pretty much the only redeeming quality.

Unlike tng, I don’t expect discovery to be a fan loved classic any time in the next century.

Edit: changed “STD” to “discovery” as apparently we’re in middle school

Draghetta,

Sorry for having come off that way, I’m just a regular guy that doesn’t really like the show for the reasons I said.

STD is Star Trek discovery and I never meant anything with it, didn’t know it was insulting. Don’t know how it “doesn’t make sense”, it’s literally the acronym of the series.

But eh.

Draghetta,

Or maybe I just have different opinions from you on multiple things and you just told a regular guy like you to fuck off because of that. But ok, feel free to disengage.

Draghetta,

I’ll be honest here, the whole std thing feels rather immature. Yeah of course I thought of the other meaning for the acronym, didn’t think people would be so childish as to consider that. Let’s be real, every acronym in the world is probably also an acronym for something nasty - but you can’t take that burden on yourself every time you type. If you have a hard time believing i was honest then don’t believe it, but the fact that I’m being accused of something so trivial speaks more of the accuser than it does of me.

I didn’t mean to make a pun at stds, it’s baffling that people would interpret it that way. That show is crappy enough to insult itself, why would anyone bother calling it names. It doesn’t need any help being ridicule.

As for your “other acronyms” point: other series are made of multiple words. TOS, TNG, DS9, they’re all acronyms. Discovery is only one word, how are you supposed to call it? D? DSC is not an acronym, if I were to randomly select letters from the name just to save space I’d just call it by its full name.

I realised STD could mean both and decided to go through with it anyway because I thought we were talking between adults but clearly you made up your mind about me long before giving a damn about who I was.

Draghetta,

I don’t need to be constructive because I’m not talking to the show writers or anybody who is responsible for it. I’m in a community of fans, I thought we could just speak our minds about stuff here and say it sucks when it sucks.

Yes I wrote “objectively” because i didn’t just dislike the show out of personal taste, but because the writing is atrocious (ask anybody who knows anything about writing, it’s trite and shallow) and the Star Trek element just is not there. Call the first one subjective, but you can’t argue with the latter.

There are plenty of things about the show I dislike subjectively, and if you want I can write an essay on it - but that was not the point of my comment. The show has traits that are arguably bad regardless of taste. You may personally like to hear the ramblings of a drunk junkie and find plenty of amusement in doing so, and if that is the case then more power to you. But it doesn’t make it good material.

Draghetta,

May be that way for a native English speaker I guess. I have never used it or seen it used as a moniker.

Draghetta,

👏👏👏👏👏

Draghetta,

Missing sprinkles of pentiti, too basic

Draghetta,

Meanwhile in Italy we buy Dutch tomatoes

Draghetta,

Least self centered American over here, thinking the whole world is about their “shitface #1 vs shitface #2” pseudodemocracy

Draghetta,

If you really don’t get the “least/most adjective category” meme, I will explain - and therefore ruin - the joke:

Let’s imagine a category of people, an eminent trait of said category, and an element exhibiting it. For example the Italians are known to be fanatical about food orthodoxy, and you spot online an Italian guy raging about the wrong shape of pasta being used for carbonara.

You comment: [this guy here is the] “least fanatic Italian”, implying that as fanatical as this guy is, the others are worse.

What have you achieved? With only three words you have insulted his category (Italians are a bunch of fanatics) and the guy himself, by reducing him to a stereotype. Two offenses in three words, an excellent ratio. Just to be clear though, most of the time these are not used to mean the insult in a really insulting manner - it’s more of a banter.

It’s a pretty common way to insult people online, I’m surprised you haven’t encountered it much. Hope I helped.

Draghetta,

That comment may have been in poor taste but that ain’t antisemitism friend.

Jews normally have a strong sense of belonging and identity, and while a lot of Jews are opposed to the Israel government it’s not at all out of place for somebody with a clearly Jewish name to be biased towards the Jewish side of a conflict. You could be forgiven for thinking that.

Change the context a little bit - this is now a story about the Falklands war and somebody named “Barry Bugglesworth” is strongly on the British side. Are you surprised?

Now I’m not saying the guy was right. Generalising is inappropriate and generally not a sign of great intelligence, but it’s not antisemitism just because it’s targeted towards a Jewish person.

Antisemitism is a powerful word, let’s not wear it out.

Draghetta,

It looks like the comment thread disappeared so this will probably be a private answer. Whatever. No, accusing a Jew of supporting Israel is not a NEGATIVE generalisation unless you think supporting Israel is a universally negative feature. So no, still not antisemitism.

Draghetta,

In the context of the Italian political system, that would mean that whoever gets a relative majority - as low as it may be - forms a powerful government that cannot be removed from power for the whole of the term, during which it can do as it pleases as opposition is functionally useless.

Now that may not be a dictionary definition of fascism, but surely it’s a shiv in the neck of democracy and a pretty big step towards dictatorship.

The good thing is that it requires citizens to vote for it in a referendum.

The bad thing is that all it requires is to swindle people, which seems to be pretty easy nowadays considering that all referendums in Italy have had the worst possible result for the last 20 years or so.

Draghetta,

Society doesn’t work on edge cases. But for the sake of argument:

If that’s all the animal products you eat, these chickens are not selected through the common practice of grinding male chicks, the hens are going to die of old age, etc etc etc - for what I’m concerned you’re vegan.

Veganism is about ethics, not diet. Diet is a mere consequence. Lab grown meat is more vegan than coconut gathered by enslaved monkeys (yes it’s a thing).

So if you fine one such farm where animals are never killed or otherwise exploited then by all means, eat those eggs and call yourself a vegan. But something tells me you won’t find it.

Draghetta,

A lot of places where all chickens die of old age and males don’t get killed as chicks. Really. Go to one of those places then, check the hen/rooster ratio (should be 50/50) and ask them what happens when hens no longer lay down eggs. Do let me know please.

Draghetta,

I feel you (or your family). Call me whatever you want but I really like the algorithm, I get exposed to so much stuff I wouldn’t otherwise. 90% of my subs are channels I found through YouTube suggestions.

The missing recommendations for me is the main reason why I’m still using youtube instead of freetube, that and watched videos being synchronised across devices.

In the time before ubo fixed the popup I would browse yt on the browser, get recommendations and copypaste urls into ft.

Draghetta,

Sure but then the recommendations would be based on a snapshot of my watch history and would not evolve further, which kind of defeats the purpose

Draghetta,

So stupid I saw it used a lot of times and I used it myself before I even knew the guy… it conveys the meaning so well

Draghetta,

TBH I’d give money to a charity that brings fridges to the North Pole before giving them to Google, so well done billy

Draghetta,

IDK chief. It seems like one of those things that are hard to do in theory as you said, but relatively easy in practice.

I mean just about any human who has played a bit with ChatGPT nowadays is able to identify ChatGPT generated paragraphs within a few words. I don’t suppose it would be much harder for a machine.

Draghetta,

Oh yes, I’ve been told by Russians how the Czech are ungrateful towards the ever so gentle Soviets who gave them freedom from nazis and treated them so well. They only hate Russians because they are brainwashed by western propaganda.

They unironically believe this shit. Běš domu, Ivané

Draghetta,

Communism tried hard to save the world plenty of times, but every time those pesky capitalists in the Supreme Soviet, in the CCP and in all the other communist governments had to ruin it for the poor people 😤
