AlteredStateBlob,

Can cast fairly well from the phone app or even the browser. Chrome cast is funky though.

AlteredStateBlob,

If anyone thinks that Russia does not have plans to invade Europe at large, they are sorely mistaken. I bet Ukrainians do find such plans fairly often.

Question is when they will attempt to act on them. I agree, it would be fairly insane to open a second front. Then again, I thought it was fairly insane to open the first one.

AlteredStateBlob,

Exactly.

AlteredStateBlob,

This might fully go over my head in the moment. I have met so many mega weird men, that I would just assume the other person must have met a similar selection and take it as a compliment and worry a bit about who they socialize with, if I am a good example of a man to them.

AlteredStateBlob,

Gifs work if you add them from your PC rather than from an URL. Download it, pull it into chat, gift works. It's not as easy as it should be, but at least it has a workaround

AlteredStateBlob,

These scam centers are active around the clock. Why wouldn't they be? It's billions they are pulling as an industry.

I've been watching his channel for years and never once had the impression anything he does is faked.

The scammers he talks to would have to be amazing actors to have emotional outbursts like they do after being comparatively friendly and tame for so long.

Not only that, but there is rarely a repeat of the people he talks to, if any, unless it is the same scammer for days.

I don't are anything that would suggest this one or any of his videos are fake.

AlteredStateBlob,

Imperor - mostly long videos playing and teaching Paradox games (currently mainly Crusader Kings 3), but the guy has that kind of voice I like to have just running in the background for comfort, so that works out. Recently started to do some interesting DND/TTRPG stuff as well like little guides for DMs and even quests to put into games. Also looks at smaller games from time to time during steam next fests and such.

AlteredStateBlob,

I also remeber the plague of malvertising with drive by viruses and Trojans. I haven't had a single positive virus on my systems in over a decade thanks to adblockers.

It's insane, because the internet looked entirely different as well. Not these monolithic sites but scattered around.

AlteredStateBlob,

It wouldn't. They already run around solutions like this by using proxies, so they are never the official owner of assets they wish to hide from the tax man.

I am all to reform, but this can only ever successfully happen if you target these oligarchs directly and dedicate extraordinary amounts of resources on taking them down and whacking every single loop hole until you finally got them cornered.

This is a never ending cycle.

AlteredStateBlob,

Unless it isn't in his name, but someone who looks like a working Joe, then it doesn't really matter.

AlteredStateBlob,

Tax evasion with existing laws works predominantly because the agencies are underfunded and not equipped to track and follow the tax evasion schemes of the ultra rich, while they simultaneously lobby for that to stay that way or become even worse.

No matter the change of code, these issues will not go away, because there's always some way to hide what you have, no matter the laws. While the current state of tax laws (no matter where) is very sub-optimal and heavily favors the rich, there is no way that a mere change in law would change that status whatsoever.

Since I personally do not evade taxes, I couldn't tell you all the loop holes some high powered, high paid professional would find in your proposed scheme, so my assumptions are pretty low level.

Your proposal hinges on even knowing what they own. That's already heavily obfuscated beyond some prestige projects they like to flaunt. I don't think that it would be feasible to enforce finding and knowing what they own, because it's already hidden in layers and layers of proxies, including non-profits, charities, etc.

AlteredStateBlob,

How about instead of calling me ignorant you take the opportunity to share your insights? Share some sources for the claims you just made and teach, rather than attack me for not knowing better.

My point is that laws are nearly irrelevant at a certain point of wealth unless they're aggressively enforced specifically against that class of wealthy individuals and companies that are the main culprits in not only evading but also continually eroding tax laws and enforcement. Laws alone do (nearly) nothing to stop any of this.

AlteredStateBlob,

I sure hope the courts toss that thing. It would be the single worst violation of peoples privacy since the internet became a thing. It's incredible that lobbyists and police unions have this much impact on policy creation.

AlteredStateBlob,

Ne, die gibts und diverse Regierungsstellen sind dort auch aktiv, z. B. das BSI:

https://social.bund.de/explore

AlteredStateBlob,

AlteredStateBlob,

More and more I am considering taking a vacation with the specific goal of migrating to Linux. I've got decades old workflows linked to certain programs and tools that I know for sure only exist in Windows, so I'll likely have to still run it in a VM for those, but my system setup is just kinda the place I call home the most, yet my patience for all this nonsense is rapidly declining.

AlteredStateBlob,

I mean, I'd like to. But some of my work requires me to use stuff like Adobe products and I find it massively easier to keep up to date with what these tools can do, if I can just muck around in my private projects (I actually care about) and then transfer the knowledge to my work stuff. I'll mull the idea some more time. Not really interested in dual booting at all, though that might be a solid solution, but windows simply deciding to kill everything else, even if its on a different disk entirely is not a prospect I relish.

AlteredStateBlob,

Thanks for the long response. I was thinking Mint maybe, had some experience with it a few years ago. But it'd replace both my private and work stuff over, so some gaming, too (mainly through steam). Stability is key to me. My current Windows install hasn't needed anything for 4 years or so, so I'm absolutely not going for Arch. I need this stuff daily, I cannot waste time trying to troubleshoot for hours or relying on backups, etc.

AlteredStateBlob,

I think we're both German. My ID doesn't have that yet, I dread the day where I can't renew it without all that nonsense.

AlteredStateBlob,

Germany introduced some digital ID functionality so you can do certain things online rather than having to go talk to someone in person, but that means that your ID isn't just a card anymore but has some digital elements to it as well. And apparently the apps to use that stuff are Windows based.

AlteredStateBlob,

It's the very state in which the Nazis came to power the last time around as well.

Not to be too gloomy here, but Germany regressing into this shit despite decades of very clear and open education on the atrocities committed by the third reich should be world news.

This is a very bad situation and there are no solutions on the horizon.

AlteredStateBlob,

While all these address certain problems, the majority of voters for the AfD don't see these as their core issues for what they're voting. I do not see a solution as to how to get blatantly racist and often one issue voters back on the ballot for less extreme parties.

I'm not saying the changes you're proposing wouldn't help and wouldn't dent their numbers, but I'm very, very weary of the fact that being an open Nazi has become acceptable in large swathes of the population again. Not just that, it actively increases attractiveness of certain politicians in the polls.

COVID and Trump-Era Republicans (as in the CxU and AfD taking their playbook and finding plenty of success with it, didn't they even meet with DeSantis to pick his brain?) did an absolute kickflip with rationality by marrying far right ideology with anti-covid, anti-science, conspiracy theory rhetoric and opening up a huge new voter base.

It's a super complex issue ranging from our Cum-Ex chancellor to Otto Normalo feeling disenfranchised by foreigners, who we desperately need if we want to plug the holes in our economy and keep at replacement level (for all the good it'll do us) and not being able to afford families, homes, or anything beyond basic subsistence.

I fear a large group of their current voter base will not be convinced by any measure taken by any government that isn't the one THEY voted for. And they won't vote for anything except extreme anymore. Used to be primarily boomers, but I see it in plenty Gen X and Millennials as well already in my close and expanded social/work circles.

AlteredStateBlob,

Which will only serve to harden the resolve of their voter base. You can ban the AfD, just like the NPD was banned. But these people don't simply go away and stop existing, just because the party they're currently voting for vanished. Instead, in the current climate of conspiracy theories and outright coup attempts by these groups, they'll take it as proof of them being oppressed and will radicalize further.

I don't think appeasement is the way, I simply don't see an easy or simple solution to the political mess we're in. Just like the AfD has zero solutions to the complex problems they pretend to be able to solve with "simple" solutions, none of the other parties have any functional approaches to dealing with the rise of the far right without alienating all those people that are supporting them.

AlteredStateBlob,

Well, I remembered that wrong. But I don't believe that banning the AfD will solve anything short, mid- or longterm. Times are quite different today than there were 70 years ago, so that's not a great comparison.

I really wish there was an easy and complete solution to getting rid of the AfD and their ideology once and for all, or at least to a degree, where these kinds of parties don't spring up again just a few years later to gain popularity once more.

The resulting radicalization of their voter base would cause quite a bit of damage, I am sure.

AlteredStateBlob,

Maybe, but at least short to mid term you'd have newly and further radicalized far right actors who are now further disenfranchised and see their conspiracy theories confirmed.

Either way, it'll take the whole village to deal with this issue.

AlteredStateBlob,

Sure, but it could also lead to other members putting more pressure on Turkey to get it done.

AlteredStateBlob,

I had this discussion when chatgpt first blew up. The amount of this kind of stuff will increase, but it has always been there and I strongly doubt it will convince anyone who wasn't already convinced.

But with the larger amount they can manage, they will reach a wider willing audience. Russian propaganda has been incredibly effective and if the bottleneck was humans, that was removed or is being removed.

Like we don't already have enough issues.

AlteredStateBlob,

Ja, aber die ist eine von den guten /s

AlteredStateBlob,

Not sure about the transphobia, but it is definitely on the sexist side. The whole premise starts out with dumb hot girl being hounded by smart inept nerd and friends. This of course continues in various ways and lets not forget Howard.

I do wonder though, this was pretty much the point of the comedy. Shining a light on stuff like that.

Most older shows don't perform well with more current ideals in mind. Media should be viewed in the context of its time and people were generally less aware of how harmful certain portrayals could be.

AlteredStateBlob,

Having watched a lot of Louis rossmann videos on NY, you need those displayed at your business to be allowed to operate it. If you do not have them, they will shut you down and fine you.

Whether or not they will enforce it here is another question, but NY seems to not fuck around with that, since corporate taxes and fines are a large contributor to their state income.

AlteredStateBlob,

Excuse me, why is this an 12 hour video?

AlteredStateBlob,

Good summary, only one point: it is not legal under the GDPR to use data you get from one reason (DDoS protection) for another reason (ad tracking) without also specifying that that is happening and allowing that to stop.

I don't say that isn't happening, but it is not legal, if it is.

AlteredStateBlob,

It does already come with some limitations, though they're also a matter of interpretation. For example "legitimate interests" cannot be applied to personal data of special categories and may thus not outweigh the rights and interests of the affected persons. This generally requires an assessment to be performed to ensure that is the case.

It's not a get out of jail free card (despite a lot of companies seemingly thinking it is).

AlteredStateBlob,

Someone straight up told me its because the elites only want those they can respect to survive.

It's a wierd form of hating them but desperately wanting their approval. I think they all just have daddy issues that aren't the kinky fun kind.

AlteredStateBlob,

I think he is working on putting posts like that to accompany the videos (or vice versa). At least he recently created a homepage. I mean, it's just some guy sharing thoughts on his hobby for free in a way he enjoys doing it?

You really don't have to watch the video (or any video).

But you can bet that there's people who prefer videos. I do, for example.

AlteredStateBlob,

If he posts a blog post for that, I'll link it. The gist of the video is that he suggests to turn the items and equipment the players already have into magic items over time. In addition to other ways of acquiring them of course. Additionally he says it's sensible to tell the players what the items do as they get them and allow their character to play out how they discover it and then give the party some options to use the items as well as maybe add some NPCs coming for these items, because they heard about them.

This addresses several issues like players not getting the items that were intended for them, players getting overwhelmed with the amount of things they need to keep track of and a lack of emotional connection with the items.

AlteredStateBlob,

One thing that will come into play is far greater target acquisition range and thus operational safety. Their current planes need to get far closer to the enemy to identify and engage their targets than an F16 will have to. This of course increases their survivability as well as their utility in various roles.

AlteredStateBlob,

No single weapon system or platform will drastically change this war. While the F-16 is a huge upgrade over what they have, it's no silver bullet. Just as with the Challengers and Leopards, they wil lose some F-16 once they go into service.

The main goal is to reduce those losses and every single crew member saved is a tiny victory in this horrible war. Survivability going up is a worthwhile upgrade for sure.

AlteredStateBlob,

Okay, that got an audible chuckle out of me.

AlteredStateBlob,

That'll buff out, no problem. Just a little scratch.
