AliasAKA,

I always understood it to be that things exist to be fruitful and multiply. In a sense, a person who does not love, who doesn’t multiply goodness in the world as Jesus modeled, was like the fig tree. Such things could be thought of as cursed, withered and twisted versions of what they could and should be.

I am not a Bible scholar though lol.

AliasAKA, (edited )

I think if they were involved it will backfire on them. The reality is it is now going to be a lot easier, and the military-industrial complex is extremely eager, to put aid for Israel as a joint package in aid with Ukraine. Net result may be that aid is enhanced for both nations.

Edit: that said they do want Iranian drones. I could see them supporting it from that perspective and also happy to run their misinformation campaigns for them to dry and drive a wedge.

AliasAKA,

This is why you also have laws in place to protect the core functioning of an entity. It’s why even with an absolute hack trying to undermine it, the USPS still delivered mail almost completely uninterrupted (despite the losing of sorting machines, which was about all that stooge could do to hinder the USPS).

I’d much rather federal and local municipalities run fiber options. If you’re using a utility pole, you should be subject to utility regulations full stop. And compared to having a locally monopolistic private corporation that has much more unilateral freedom to do super shady shit, I’d really prefer an entity that at least can have government oversight and associated required disclosures.

AliasAKA,

I actually disagree. Despite four years and their best efforts, they couldn’t even dismantle the USPS or ACA or the IRS. I’m actually a bit bullish on our government agencies. Are they under attack? Yes. How can we protect them? More democracy. If we have a healthy democracy, then we have healthy institutions. If we don’t have a healthy democracy, well, we have way bigger problems than whether internet is a government entity or not, because in a fascist state everything is essentially run by an oligarch anyways.

Democracy actually isn’t favorable to Wall Street. It favors labor far too much, and then the pesky issue of taxes. Corporate conglomeration actually wants oligarchy, not democracy. It’s far better for them to have absolute and total control to extort labor and consumers to drive wealth to a select few. Wall Street doesn’t care about democracy, it cares about funneling money to a small amount of people. They can do it in a democracy, but to say that they couldn’t also do it in an oligarchy they participate in is I think opposite what would actually happen.

AliasAKA,

I appreciate the discussion!

I would say I’m actually just as paranoid. I just trust a government body in a democracy more than I trust a private for profit company in a democracy. If we don’t have a functioning democracy, then I don’t think it matters if it’s a private corporation or a government entity, because either way the government will enforce it’s whims on the utility (eg, surveillance and censoring).

So my argument is, while we still have a democracy we should expand public utilities. They’re not perfect, but I think socially more responsible, more auditable, than private companies who are not motivated by even a loose public good mandate. So given the choice between municipalizing or federalizing internet utilities and a private company, I’ll choose a public good utility every single time. I don’t worry about the USPS reading my mail as a standard of operation, but I know for a fact that a private company would try everything it could to open up that mail and take a peak (eg, you have to opt out of “prioritized mail screening” or something, and then you’d get degraded service). I know this, because private ISPs already try to packet sniff everything you do online and throttle select services.

So I guess my argument is, fear of losing democracy isn’t a good reason to oppose public utilities and social programs, because the realized harm of oligarchic fascism will be the same regardless if it’s a private or public entity (in fact, ironically, fascists will make it a “public entity” and then give its assets and control to whoever the oligarch for that “utility” will be). So since while we have a democracy, public utilities serviced by governments are better, and the results are the same regardless under fascism, we should instead try to bolster public utilities all the more while we can.

To the original suggestion in this thread, taking over a utility like space provided internet, which uses the public owned goods of spectrum and orbit paths, is actually a better benefit to consumers in this case, and honestly one we should support. What’s the alternative? Letting a fascist man baby run it how he sees fit? We already have that. If it’s a government service and our government is taken over by fascists, we’d still have that. But while we have a democracy, let us use it.

AliasAKA,

Yes, and he’ll do the old “force austerity to temporarily drive up profit margins for a quarter or two, then once it’s clear the next quarter will be crap, sell all of the stock that was awarded (auspiciously with a very short vesting window, if not just given outright)”

Typical bs, probably worth shorting this stock over the next year or so

ender 2 pro stepper motor for e-axis

Hi, I am trying to replace the extruder with a better quality one than what comes stock with the printer. The issue I’m running into is that the stepper motor shaft does not have a flat side, it’s just round with the gear built on it. I guess this is not the case will all ender 2 pros? When trying to look for a new stepper...

AliasAKA,

For what it’s worth when I purchased an extruder upgrade I had to get a new motor. The motor on my Ender 3 pro had a press fit gear on the motor arm and it was too short to fit the dual gear extruder (I did manage to get the press fit off only to realize the arm was too short).

If you’re able to order from Amazon, or a similar store with a decent return or exchange policy, I’d just get what you think you will need and return or exchange as necessary.

AliasAKA,

Also, I am planning on purchasing some more hyper PLA to see if I can observe the same buzzing with that filament. I can’t imagine the filament type would cause the buzzing, but strange things do happen. Will report back here with any findings on that, but if anyone else has any thoughts in the meantime on this buzzing, I’m very keen to hear them!

AliasAKA,

Oh that’s interesting. I wonder if it’s a resonance thing / something a little loose. Maybe I’ll try retensioning the belts and see if that helps. If anything works I’ll mention it, just in case it’s related to your buzzing too!

AliasAKA,

It seems to be coming predominantly from the hot end / extruder assembly. I have seen that various folks have resonance issues on this printer, so I’ll see if I can track down any more of those fixes. I did try the side panels off, loosen one of the screws, move the head around, retighten the screw thing, but that doesn’t seem to have made any difference. So I guess the gantry is square but something is causing resonance in the print head.

I can’t believe it would be the extruder, but I am a little curious about it since it also seems to have some odd extrusion effects (essentially like what I’d imagine it would look like when you “skip” over a surface by dragging something along; little splots, then thin, then little splots, but almost imperceptible due to the very high frequency of the micro stutters — first layers look almost flawless too so not really sure what the deal is).

Creality K1 Tramming -- Loosen Z Screw and Tune?

My Creality K1 bed is actually in pretty good shape (max deviation of 0.7mm left to right, 0.1mm back to front), but I recognize that many folks might have beds that are off as much as 1.5 or more mm. The K1 has 3 lead screws, but not proper 3 point leveling (maybe someone will create a daughter board and a 3 point conversion...

AliasAKA,

Ah I see, thanks very much for replying with this info! That actually makes a fair bit of sense. Little bit unfortunate, as I think the bottom plate with adjustments is quite cumbersome but more importantly difficult to get correct. I may just get some foil tape to shim for now, but will keep thinking of other solutions also.

Thanks again for the response!

AliasAKA,

Ah this sounds interesting. If I ever get around to taking the bottom plate off, I’m definitely going to check that out. The only other idea I had was to get metal shim washers and put them below the stand-off mounts for the bed, but I was worried it would befuddle the strain gauges somehow.

AliasAKA,

I think this would result in some pretty intense ghosting and other undesirable artifacts.

AliasAKA,

That’s a good point, I don’t remember much ghosting on those. I guess it might depend on the phosphor used. If it was tuned to only fluoresce for that imperceptible off time and no longer it would probably work.

I guess it’s a similar idea to quantum dots, but if those quantum dots fluoresced for just a bit longer.
