AWistfulNihilist,

You are totally ignorant to how odd and out of place your comments seem to people reading them. You came in with a strange non sequitur that wasn’t really relevant to the discussion at all, then got all weird when people engaged you on it, like your version of whatever was going on here didn’t happen.

You are the odd one out here! It was fun to read tho.

This is not the cheapest, you can get better pricing than this with a Costco business account. Your friend is probably not serving the lowest price bulk bread available, they probably have some self respect.

AWistfulNihilist,

For those of you listening at home, the young constable has just thrown up into his helmet. This is the longest continuous vomit seen on Broadway since John Barrymore puked over Laertes in the second act of Hamlet in 1941.

AWistfulNihilist,

Bringing race or intersectionality into a class debate with the intention of poisoning the well, IS propaganda from the ruling classes. The wealthy elite may look like the monopoly guy in many peoples heads, and that guy is real, don’t get me wrong (especially in the West), and he represents a huge amount of the wealth and power.

But the class struggle exists in parallel, class exists inside race, Indians are suffering under a class system that is being forced on them by other Indians.

If you don’t acknowledge that the oligarchy exists to exploit, you will never address the injustices inside a homogenous culture. If you don’t acknowledge that class alone is plenty of reason to dehuminize, you are not engaging with reality.

That all exists on the race and gender side too. We’re all in this together.

You just have to look at western sensibilities to understand the missing harem trope. The heroes in Western stories have a once in a lifetime romance. If there’s a problem with the romance, it’s part of the evil plot device (Ursula in the little mermaid.)

Western power fantasy tropes come in the form of the white savior or agents above the law tropes. John Carter was written in the early 1900’s, Stranger in a Strange Land by Heinlein in the 60’s.

Octavia Butler takes those classically white and Western tropes and turns them on their head.

Also, collapse of society movies are close to American/English isekai because of our obsession with both apocalypse and saviors. Walking dead is a great example.

AWistfulNihilist,

I’m actually enjoying the result of this, where they are now exploring these partial video game worlds in world.

Berserk of Gluttony is a current example. The isekai genre posits these videogame-esque worlds. So I like that other animes are now exploring them.

AWistfulNihilist,

Maybe you could ask to speak to the memes manager? You know, make sure this complaint really goes somewhere!

AWistfulNihilist, (edited )

No, there’s a reason! You’re just so not fun it’s actually fun to make fun of you!

AWistfulNihilist, (edited )

Money-optimistic technocratic libertarians. When you act is if all problems can be solved by innovation. As if it’s not just a series of pens with clocks in them.

AWistfulNihilist,

Is sound proofing really still this bad in the distant future?

AWistfulNihilist,

Are you suggesting the Cruz vehicle had robo lycanthropy??!!?

AWistfulNihilist,

I wouldn’t say you justified, buuuuuuut, you are literally reducing the punishment of the adults because of some perceived additional damage to the abused child. Which almost totally removes the accountability for the act, the only accountability in this case is separation, which would need to be done either way.

I would say this girl has been so unprotected by her guardians and the rest of the family that separation will be a net positive for her in the future.

You’re characterization of the other person’s totally normal opinion as evil tells me everything I need to know about you tho.

AWistfulNihilist,

The dude who was in the relationship to the 12 year old and either didn’t realize his impact or didn’t care, as well as the mother you mean? I would argue they continue to pose a real danger to the daughter, and that man committed an egregious act of abuse on a child who was at worse coerced and at best a victim of a much older person.

I have no trust he won’t engage in this same behavior again. Unless you think it was just an exceptional 12 year old? Like have you met any 12 year olds so wise and beautiful you forgot about the fact they were 12 and just wanted to fuck a baby into them?

Although I totally agree that the prison system in the US is a sort of torture/slave labor system and many of the people engaged in that system are due to circumstances rather than “crime”.

Absolutely not the case here, this is a pretty easy call to make imo!

AWistfulNihilist,

So let the dude prey on other children? Or spend resources on closely monitoring him for however long his parole is, same with the mom. But as you noted, these “stupid” people are a continuing risk, right? I don’t know, maybe this is the appropriate use of prison, I do wish there were education and rehabilitation programs that weren’t gutted, but in this case prison solves so many problems for the victim!

AWistfulNihilist,

I just want you imagine the type of person who would get into a genuine relationship with a 12 year old. You don’t see it happening again?

I think this child predator would try to get in another “genuine relationship” with another child, frankly.

AWistfulNihilist,

I think that’s actually the crux of our disagreement and I don’t think we’ll come together on it.

I think the fact that he ever engaged in any sort of romantic relationship with a 12 year old makes him more likely to do it again, he’s the kind of person who would get into a relationship with a 12 year old as a 24 year old.

I believe you are taking the face value indication from the word “genuine relationship” and not really interrogating the “with a 12 year old” part. I don’t think anything I say is gonna change that, and I don’t think your opinion is exactly gonna win over hearts and minds on my end, so I guess I’ll end it there!

AWistfulNihilist,

You are a walking strawman factory 🤣

AWistfulNihilist,

Yeah, I’m really feeling that lack of general empathy! No surprises here my man.

AWistfulNihilist,

I’m personally calling you out for visibly having trouble with empathy in this thread, it’s just you and me, don’t have to diffuse it with a we like you and I aren’t people talking.

I mean you might have an opinion so stupid that you just copy pasted 26 times in the thread, so plenty of other people have noticed how weird it seems and commented on it. But like, that’s a you problem yanno?

AWistfulNihilist,

Oh, you think you’re having a conversation by copy and pasting the same shit that makes you seem weird, yeah, that seems like everyone else is the problem!!

AWistfulNihilist,

No, there was a shooting a block away, the police took out their guns and immediately started opening firing on a random vehicle.

No one of the vehicle was killed, despite the vehicle being targeted by a dozen some odd rounds of ammunition.

The cops just killed that little girl and shot 3 other unrelated people. They caught the kids involved in the other shooting and tried to charge them with her murder. Those charges were dropped because obviously that’s ridiculous. The only injuries were from police bullets.

AWistfulNihilist,

Cold running water is actually thermodynamically better at moving the cold out of your food and it doesn’t par cook or put it in the danger zone for as long, it’s 1st world as fuck tho to defrost your shit in a trickle of running cold water tho.

AWistfulNihilist,

Bro it’s a mixed drink, you are supposed to sip and enjoy, this isn’t shots of admiral Nelson rum or old crow. You are supposed to enjoy 2 along with some food and conversation, it’s not well drinks for a dollar.

AWistfulNihilist,

The problem isn’t the amount of liquid, that’s standard. Unless this bar invested in a special ice maker, they’re likely buying these at 4 dollars each block, that’s a huge premium on top of the liquid in the glass.

Seriously, though. How often do you think of the Roman Empire?

I know this is a joke/meme, but I sincerely think of the Roman Empire a surprising amount of times. I find myself obsessing over how Roman citizens were living just as complex lives as we are today, or about Marcus Aurelius’ life and philosophy, or about how the Republic fell and became a totalitarian state.

AWistfulNihilist,

Everyday, memento mori, remember thou art mortal.

AWistfulNihilist,

Shit, when I used to grow the devil’s lettuce (till power got exorbitantly expensive) I was supplying my boss and half my coworkers at no charge.

In my experience, weed brings people together!

AWistfulNihilist,

I’m actually working in it, I only recently discovered them!

AWistfulNihilist,

You don’t have to think! You can just search my name and watch my videos on my old YouTube channel, I haven’t uploaded since I turned off the tents, so it’s a bit of a time capsule.

AWistfulNihilist,

He’s just slowly morphing into a standard opinion tech bro with no light between him, moist, and like a dozen other rich dudes.

Wealthy, incredibly insulated from life, experiencing everything through a screen then discussing what they’ve seen into another screen. Good and bad opinions melt together into a gray mush.

It’s so much like Plato’s Allegory of the Cave that I don’t even want to mention it, it’s so fucking obvious.

AWistfulNihilist,

Like if the light is bothering you, tell them, or tell an usher, why the fuck is it so ok to take creepshots. That’s what creeps do.

Not that this guy isn’t a creep, he could be… The evidence we have is pretty overwhelming, but so is the person behind him taking this picture.

But also… Don’t look at porn in public, even text porn, man I’m really torn up inside on this one.

AWistfulNihilist,

He strikes me as the type of guy who actually listens and asks questions of the on staff subject matter experts they tend to hire on sets.

AWistfulNihilist,

What? They put it on the wrong card when the correct card was provided by the manufacturer. The manufacturer confirmed to them the incompatability. If the premise of the video is “idiots do something wrong and act like it’s the part’s fault because they felt personally slighted and have an ego driven response”.

It wasn’t, if they had the correct and compatible part, it may have been an entirely different experience to them, and that part was provided to them by the manufacturer.

We don’t even know if a lay person with instructions and the right part would have issues, because the original unforced error by LMG was so egregious. No matter what you have to see how this isn’t fair to anyone, especially not the target consumer of this device. It might even paint it in a very negative light through the fault of the people making the video, entirely. The manufacturer did everything they could.

Then when called out they double down on the ego hurt response, twice. Saying nothing would change when they never even tried to use it device appropriately. Then they add insult to injury by never even giving the part back.

FYI - selling the prototype (LMG were aware this was a one of a kind proto) ensures that no other reviewer can have an easier time installing on the right hardware, no one can ever prove Linus wrong because the part is gone and they won’t say to who…

That’s weird right?

AWistfulNihilist,

I would argue the vast majority of people are like this, this is the neutral position. You act in the world as if the implications of all of this are meaningless.

Even if you believe there is no free will, it doesn’t change how you behave in any significant way, because your are the sum total of your parts.

The Dan Dennett’s and Sam Harris’ of the world are having an argument that ultimately means nothing to us because we’ll act the same way regardless of this information.

AWistfulNihilist,

I feel like everyone is not remembering just how miserable their lives were. Yeah he was in a house with a family, but their trips were always either a trick or a horrible mistake, like the radioactive lake. Or the cursed town.

The main running gag of the Bundie’s was that they couldn’t afford to eat and Al’s car was barely living. They weren’t enviable, they were cousin Eddie in the suburbs.

AWistfulNihilist,

Damn, that’s a deep cut type of joke, I love it!

AWistfulNihilist,

I worked with Kronos, had their top tier biometrics in a 1,000+ employee company.

  1. The data is only as good as the person loading the data.
  2. Some people don’t have good fingerprints.

It was bad enough that of you had a person with a bad fingerprint, Kronos would just take ANY input. It would even tell you if a persons fingerprint wasn’t good enough. It happened fucking constantly.

So either it’s so good you can’t escape it, it is so bad you can’t use it to identify anyone uniquely. It’s literally either a threat or an inconvenience.

AWistfulNihilist,

When the power creep of One Piece devil fruit got too much, they just introduced Haki. Anyone who trains hard enough can do it at a base level, they even eventually broke the full mcguffin of sea prism stone eventually with training and determination.

I’m 100% with you. We don’t need mcguffins we need grit! Which are still kinda mcguffins…

AWistfulNihilist,

Thank you for clarifying, as some just happening to stumble upon this and the context!

My friend sold his Video Game Collection, it just made me have a midlife crisis at 29. Is this normal?

My friend and I collect old video games. But all my physical media just sits on my shelves and collects dust. Why do I even collect them? I literally just emulate everything. Is there a purpose to what I do? People ask me why I collect and I never have a real answer because I don’t even know. If I never play my stuff, is it...

AWistfulNihilist,

I don’t know you man, I don’t know what you’re life is about, but I hope you have people in you life you can seriously talk to about feelings like that.

Your hobbies don’t define you, there’s no such thing as wasted time. Shit your entire collection could have been peer pressure or competitive in nature, and you just lost your fizz when you primary foil moved on. That doesn’t mean the time you spent is worth any less, or didn’t contribute to your life in some meaningful way.

Is it normal to have a midlife crisis at 30ish, fucking absolutely! You’ll have many crisises, you’ve probably already had crisis in the past, you’ll continue to have crisis in the future. You would be a terribly uninteresting person if you didn’t.

If selling some or all of your collection would make a positive difference in your life, and you’re questioning why you even have them, then yeah, sell some. You probably won’t regret it, those items will continue to have a life and be valued by someone else. But if the thought of selling hurts too much, then it’s not time yet. That’s ok too.

Just give yourself a break!
