14th_cylon,

Exactly, there isn’t musk mentioned anywhere

14th_cylon, (edited )

I see you don’t “speak plane” as well, because this is a terrible explanation

Obeying red light is like obeying air traffic. controller.

getting TCAS advisory is as if you had a system in your car that would tell you “you are too close to the car In front of you - slow down!”

14th_cylon,

which was a result of the one crew not following the TCAS instruction.

That is serious misinterpretation. that crew followed their TCAS until they got conflicting instructions from the ATC…

en.wikipedia.org/…/2002_Überlingen_mid-air_collis…

14th_cylon,

He is just worried that HIS “actually” wouldn’t stand out as nicely if someone added second one…

14th_cylon,

If you need an explanation, that means you don’t understand the issue well enough to be qualified to decide whether that explanation is good… It’s not and the article is not shitty journalism.

14th_cylon,

no i am not and no, the point definitely does not remain.

first, phrasing it like “they didn’t follow TCAS” make them sound like some reckless cowboys, which is simply not the case. they did exactly what they were told by tcas and when they got contradicting order from ATC the did exactly what they were told by him.

second, the statatement “was a result of the one crew not following the TCAS instruction” is simply not true. the accident was a result of ATC (as in the organization, not the specific people having the shift that night) fucked up". reading that linked wiki article may be good place to start to learn about the accident.

14th_cylon, (edited )

for the smartasses who once heard about tcas, so everything is, obviously, made up bullshit.

from the nyt article that gizmodo refers to:

“I saw the nose of the jet with his lights illuminated at a close range. It looked like a cover photo from Flying Magazine,” a commercial airline pilot wrote in March, after coming within 200 feet of crashing into another aircraft in the skies around Jacksonville, Fla. “This conflict was too close to risk any single life we had on board, much less the 198 souls traveling collectively on us.”

In another report this year, a pilot narrated nearly colliding with two separate passenger planes after landing in Tampa on a foggy morning.

“I noticed a dark silhouette of an aircraft that appeared to be moving directly at us. It was extremely difficult to see, but I yelled ‘STOP’ to the captain, ‘The aircraft is going to hit us,’” the pilot wrote. “The other aircraft never slowed down, and if we would have noticed it a second later we would have collided. There was a second aircraft following the first, and it did not slow down either, and it passed our wingtips within ft.”

Just after 5 p.m. on Aug. 7, a controller at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport cleared American Flight 1388 for takeoff to New York. The controller instructed it to turn right after departing the airport, but the American pilot incorrectly repeated the directions back to the controller, according to F.A.A. safety reports. The controller didn’t catch the mistake.

After the plane took off, it banked left instead of right, directly into the path of a Southwest flight en route to Austin.

A different air traffic controller realized the planes were on a collision course. He radioed in urgent tones to the American pilot that the other flight was just to its left — “a Boeing 737 sitting right there.”

The two planes came within a third of a mile horizontally and 300 feet vertically of each other before pulling apart.

A midair catastrophe had been averted by seconds.

14th_cylon,

good think we have you, a laymen who fixed the problem by watching youtube videos! 😂

14th_cylon,

And basis for this deep insight of yours is you have seen some YouTube videos… Got it. That definitely wins over some pilots describing their experience in that NYT article.

14th_cylon, (edited )

and had all the pilots overslept that day the incident might not have happen as well and in spite of that, we don’t list them getting out of the bed in the morning as a reason of the accident.

them obeying the atc command was reasonable and expected course of action.

14th_cylon,

that’s not a bad course of action. average iq on earth will rise as a result.

14th_cylon,

But would you decapitate a policeman, steal his helmet, shit into it and send it to his widow? That’s the real question.

Best way to mass delete reddit content?

I’ve decided that I want to delete my reddit account. I want to remove all of my posts and comments first. What is the best way to do this? I’ve had the account for several years so it would be too tedious to delete everything individually. So far I’ve tried the Redact android app, which did not work when I signed in. I...

14th_cylon,

what do we say to the god of software bugs ruining our space exploration? not today!

one of these days we will finally say it, but… not today 😆

14th_cylon,

i can see doing one burn that is kind of rough, then evaluating the situation and applying some correction?

14th_cylon,

ok, it seems to be working 😆

they are are extremely obnoxious mix of tankies and some other leftists who might have been slightly less obnoxious if they were on their own, but being in the group with said tankies, you don’t want them any more than the former

i apologize for grammar structure of my sentence and hope it makes some sense

if you have few days of time to kill you can check this thread where lemm.ee admin is asking lemm.ee users about their opinion on defederating them. they brigade the thread in such a way they make more than 77% of the 2k comments in the thread (not exaggerating - the thread has 1920 comments when viewed from lemm.ee and 425 when viewed from lemmy.world which blocks them) and explain their philosophy in the process. so you will understand stuff like “who absolutely needs to be murdered for the crime of having more money than you in order to make world more just place & other tankies’ wisdom”.

you have to acknowledge that they did really good job of introducing themselves, though - i had no idea they even existed the day before that thread and i am firm proponent of “defederate. now.” today 😆

14th_cylon,

www.deepl.com/translator has web interface and standalone application for any system

not open source, but works really well

14th_cylon,

ok, that’s fair point

14th_cylon,

i am not a boomer and i am also pissed when firefox upgrade decides to unilaterally change the installed theme to something that looks like shit and i can’t find the old one. so i kinda do understand aunty ethel.

14th_cylon,

so in the download section of firefox website, there will be notice: “not recommended for use in france”

problem solved 🤣

14th_cylon,

□ I’m okay with Mozilla handling my info as explained in this Privacy Notice.

the privacy notice doesn’t relate to the poll, is as fuzzy as it can be and doesn’t even come close to mentioning there is mandatory e-mail field (not talking about explaining how it is handled). i am afraid that checkbox is not going to be checked from me.

14th_cylon,

i hardly expect mozilla to abandon the people of an entire country

that’s not what i meant. i meant that the notice will be only thing that happens to formally comply with the law and everyone will be able to download the firefox “on their own responsibility”

like when eu banned the classic lightbulbs, there was a discussion in my country because some idiots felt that “the dictatorship of eu is upon them again”

now these lightbulbs are being sold with the notice “for industrial use only, unsuitable for use in personal homes”. every normal person buys led-bulbs and few thousand idiots are happy thinking how they showed them! 😆

14th_cylon,

it says they’ll only use it for things you give them permission to use it for

no, it doesn’t. it only makes very vague claim that can really mean anything.

https://i.imgur.com/aOFm9JD.png

how did you even sign up for lemm.ee when it has almost regulations for your information (“we only share it with third parties that help us and that we like their privacy policy”)? Mozilla does the same.

i expect better job from company of the size of mozilla, than i expect from lemm.ee, as i somehow expect them having few more layers ;)

14th_cylon, (edited )

i suggest you do, and when you are at the school, take a writing class while you are at it.

you didn’t really do good job explaining what you object to. what exactly is mozilla not worried about?

14th_cylon, (edited )

You clearly didn’t read past where you highlighted

i clearly didn’t, do you know why?

because they make the same claim that lemmee does right after that. And

because they don’t make ANY claim after that.

that highlighted part is end of section “product & policy campaigns”. what follows is information about cookies, 3rd party analytics and purchases on mozilla websites.

www.mozilla.org/en-US/privacy/websites/https://i.imgur.com/3HNf0nw.png

look, i understand your longing to deliver some sick burn, fanboy, but before you start lecturing other to learn to read, you should really master that craft yourself.

I’m not trusting some rando with my email address simply because I shouldn’t expect much from them.

well i shouldn’t expect the need for blind trust from mozilla.

14th_cylon,

block websites in the browsers themselves. Its in the first paragraph. So no, a warning wouldn’t suffice. Jfc. Read

so that’s… what they are not worried about? that is like whole purpose of the petition. for person sending other to reading class, you really have a problem with that. you don’t have to reply to that, welcome to my block list.

14th_cylon,

Lemmy not handling errors is just another Thursday…

14th_cylon,

okey, that headline is dumb as fuck as well. i think there is enough evidence for the wildfire even without the falcon 9 photo 🤣

14th_cylon,

try again. you can do it.

14th_cylon,

But I wouldn’t immediately jump to intentional.

occam’s razor says you should ;)

14th_cylon,

Hanlon’s razor says you shouldn’t.

yeah, but that applies to a problem where you don’t have any additional information. if you do have background information of any kind, you would be wise to take them into account.

All right, we got a razor fight!

my razor is ready, bring it on! 😆

that guy is the most succesfull troll in history. he single-handedly created havoc that big that russian trollfarm wouldn’t have to be ashamed for and you continue to give him audience. just ban him and move on.

14th_cylon,

not sure if you are serious, but no, that’s not what i am suggesting.

14th_cylon,

is “not supporting someone” your newspeak for being asshole? because i am pretty sure that any group of people doesn’t give a flying fuck about you or anyone else not “supporting them”, just let them be and they will be happy.

14th_cylon,

don’t take me wrong, i am pretty sure i am not in the same boat with comrade who thinks that “not supporting the latest imperialist adventures” is some clever newspeak, but your comment was first time i have heard about “hexbear” - whatever that is.

14th_cylon, (edited )

you missed my point and you wrote three angry paragraphs about it, good for you! 🤣

https://i.imgur.com/khALVom.png

My experience is that

my experience is that when someone tries to put inequality sign between being an asshole and “not supporting them”, he is trying to make an excuse for being an asshole.

what do you even mean by “supporting them”? do you bring them food and your old clothes every sunday or something? how do you express on the internet that you “don’t support” someone/something?

when i am indifferent to a topic, whatever that topic is, i don’t feel the need to go on the internet and express that indifference. when i talk about something, it is either because i am for or against it. so when you are being called for being an asshole, you weren’t just “not supporting them”, whoever them is in the context, you were probably an asshole and now you are trying to mask it.

(to prevent further confusion - i am aware you are not the person i originally replied to, so any “you” in this text is just a figure of speech)

14th_cylon,

did they give a reason for that?

14th_cylon, (edited )

step 1 - go to reddit

step 2 - ?

step 3 - profit

unfortunately i don’t know the specific answer, but you might find something interesting here:

14th_cylon,

so how many out of these 1,1M total lemmy accounts are yours? 🤣

i mean i am glad it is working for you, but that is the worst “workaround” i have heard about in my life.

14th_cylon,

Isn’t a self driving car just a train?

no, it is not… here is handy image to familiarize you with some basic differences

https://www.topgear.com/sites/default/files/images/gallery-migration/2012-12/BE0A81C4-553A-424A-B4C1-8C4D73542566.jpg

14th_cylon,

well one weighs a lot of watermelons! the other one quite a less watermelons. does this help?

14th_cylon,

Excellent!

14th_cylon,

I am an instance admin of one of the oldest Lemmy instances and have been doing stuff like this for nearly 20 years now. I am not talking theoretically, but based on real examples that I have seen personally happening.

cool. and how many people who weren’t willing to contribute few bucks, but were willing and able to start and maintain their own instance, have you seen? 🤣

14th_cylon,

people who already own their own server are not at all representative sample of general population.

so i am not going to say you are straight up lying, but you are definitely obfuscating a lot ;)

14th_cylon,

which is pretty much a given.

no, it is not given, it is number you just pulled out of your ass. that may be true for people who joined some solar punk or open source instance, but it is absolutely not true for general population. there wouldn’t be 126k people on lemmy world if that were true.

14th_cylon, (edited )

anyone that knows how to use a computer can learn the needed skills in less than a week.

if you really think that, i am happy i am not on your instance 🤣

But I can easily proof

no, you can’t

that as right now there are more than enough small Lemmy instances online to take over all of the Lemmy.world users if each of them had about 1000 members. You can easily look it up yourself.

well thank you for your permission.

there is at this moment 532 instances with open signup - lemmy.fediverse.observer/list

so while your statement is technically true and that would be enough to take in 126k lemmy.world users in your arbitrary ratio, it is not enough to take in the 1,1M total lemmy users. this is quite illustrative to your creative approach to facts.

and all ofthis is not accounting for the fact that if you sort the instances by uptime, the list starts at 65%. are these the people who obtained their admin skills during 1 week crash course?

and to be clear i am not trying to insult anyone for having a toy and learning new skill, but these are simply not instances for public use.

https://i.imgur.com/6KmF3Hg.png

also let me remind you, that even if you somehow managed to prove this nonsense you are trying to prove, it would in no way help you to establish your original claim:

If you want to ensure that the Fediverse stays a healthy, non-corporate and humans-first environment, then being able to run (small) servers out of the admin’s pocket is the only working solution.

you chose weird hill to die on and i wish you good luck with it. you don’t have to reply to this, i don’t think that further debate between us can bring any utility to either one of us.

uninformed users like you
