Nurse from Canada who reported to police that she was being stalked and harassed by someone she didn't know. She made a bunch of reports over 7 years but police never found any evidence of stalking. She then disappeared in 1989 and was found dead two weeks later tied up and choked. Cause of death was found to be a drug overdose.
Police suspected she staged the disappearance and being tied up/choked and actually committed suicide, since she had a history of depression and prior police investigations into a stalker always turned up dry.
There is some evidence suggesting she was murdered like the fact the blood in her body settled in the opposite side of the one she was found laying on, indicating she was relocated after she died.
We still don't know the exact circumstances leading up to her death.
According to investigators she injected herself with a massive dose of a fast acting drug then threw the injector away, did something with her shoes (no explanation as to what, she was barefoot and her feet were clean so must have been wearing some if she walked there herself and her shoes were not found at the scene), and then tied herself up in a painful and awkward position in the seconds it would take for the drug to affect her movements and render her unconscious.
Those investigators were working hard to deny that she had been being stalked for years while they had blamed and accused her. They didn't even notice when they passed the point of incredulity.
Interesting, I thought it was just an abbreviation of the original Polish site, karab.in (which would also explain why 'subreddits' are called magazines, karabin = rifle). Either way, that's pretty seamless inspiration.
/r/politics, /r/blackpeopletwitter, /r/whitepeopletwitter, /r/til, /r/tifu, /r/aita, /r/askreddit and all sorts of trans/terf/whatever activism should stay on reddit.
It might not seem necessary, but Reddit was extremely hostile to minorities when those subs were created. There are parts of Reddit that remained hostile until the very end. If it turns out that it's necessary here, then it's necessary here, but a lot of those hostile elements are hopefully going to go off to voat or whatever.
I'm not a pre-migration keebinetter, but wanted to point out that kbin was published as a very early version of itself about a month ago by the user /u/ernest, Might not find many pre-migration keebinetters.
AFAIK /kbin is pretty new, even more so than Lemmy, I've been here for some days and the explosion of users is honestly insane, but also pretty exciting to see.
Also the users that have migrated so far have been "high quality" and really friendly, in my opinion users like you, like us, are pretty much the base of what /kbin will be.
We have to keep in mind that this site is not Reddit and probably never will be, but that's what I like the most about it.
Yeah, more or less. I've been on the fediverse for a little bit, but about a month ago it was mainly just the dev Ernest posting to himself. The fact that this is still in prototype phase and working as well as it does is frankly amazing. Timing wasn't great with reddit imploding now, since it's a bit trial by fire, but I'm really excited about where we're going.
I spent like an hour going back and forth about whether to keep the original spelling, number, and multiple underscores in my old name because that was just how my main always was and I haven't had a non-numeric handle in decades.
Suddenly realized the sheer specificity of it meant googling my user could easily find the most ancient stuff, got creeped out, dropped it immediately. Now all anyone who tries to find me is getting is Victorian era poetry and pictures of plants.
My continued transition. I started feminizing HRT in March of last year. The first year was amazing and I'm really hoping for continued amazing changes from it. <3
I'm an amateur stand-up comedian, so people ask me to tell my jokes all the time.
These people ignore the fact that a comedy set is all about the context in which you tell the joke
You can mouse over the poster's name and it shows their instance. I think that should be more visible than it is, maybe another option to display it or hide it for those who want minimal space used.
Hmm, can’t mouse over it on mobile. ;_; I’m considering switching to a different instance because the more I try to use kbin, the more confusing and less user friendly it seems.
You have to find what works best for you. Lemmy has a few apps that people are liking, so once the latest version comes out you can try them and see if they work better for a mobile situation. No reason you can't have accounts in both places or more, just to find the best "final" home. We're all still figuring out stuff. :) Just make sure the Lemmy home(s) are connected to places you may want to see, some have been defederated and so don't get the full potential feeds (which could be good or bad for you).
I am intrigued about this whole UAP whistleblower guy named David Grusch.
Is it Psyops, confused officials, a business model (to sell books, speak on conferences)?
I'm not sure. In Australia there seems to be a lot of irrational hatred of cyclists. I'm wondering if perhaps there's a cross over due to bright colours or skin tight clothing triggering some alpha male aggression or something. Though it's probably more to do with people being irrationally impatient with slow traffic on the road.
I can only speak on my experience as both a previously passionate cyclist and passionate car driver in central Europe. There are very real issues with cyclists here but they are mostly centered around large cities where for reasons no one understands, cyclists both seem to believe that they are the untouchable on the roads and that there is no need for taking care of themselves and others. You can see the most insane behavior on European roads performed by cyclists. The famous switching to the sidewalk to skip a red light while then getting both pedestrians and cars in serious danger.
Here on the European country side especially in a mountainous place like where I am, there are mainly two problems, road cyclists that ignore the perfectly prepared tarred cycle roads and mountain bike people who shoot out of dirt roads right onto streets without any care.
I strongly advocate for mandatory license plates for any bicycle on the road, it would finally give the public a possibility to get the bad actors of their bicycles and keep the roads save.
If the situation in Down under is similar, I can fully understand the rage and it has nothing to do with our cyclist cloths.
Initially? Nothing. Unless my identity has been publicly tied to this amount of money, in which case a plane ticket to somewhere I'm not known, probably.
