I just wish ArenaNet would stop considering a Sledgehammer an appropriate tool for adjusting the game balance and that they would properly test/evaluate changes before releasing them or better even talking about them.
The latter is the main issue here. It is more than obvious by now that only a tiny fraction of ArenaNet employees are actually playing/knowing their game well enough to know/predict how changes will affect their game. And since there are no public test servers, the live servers are pretty much in beta all the time.
Just look at the Scourge Yo-Yo over the last 2 months.
The meta (In my opinion) is over-tuned by quite a bit. It’s fun melting world bosses and easily doing content with PUGs, but maybe we dial it back just a bit.
I am curious which of the relics will be nerfed/fixed/buffed as well, as I’m sure they are contributing quite a bit to the power-creep.
@Winged_Hussar I just want them to leave hammer mechanist alone, I'm having entirely too much fun. And I just got into fractals. I don't wanna have to restart everything because what I have is no longer good. :AngeryCat:
That’s the issue here. That was always the issue. I had fun with Defense Field on Scrapper, which spawned around my box and allowed me to protect people from variety of nasty stuff - and suddenly it was “fixed” with a ground marker.
If you’re having too much fun - you gonna cry soon how they “fix” your profession.
Is there a way to collapse comment threads on it I’m missing? I’ve been loving some of its other features (like being the only one I’ve found that stretches when I turn my iPad lengthwise).
After Anet nerfed my Temporal Curtain’s range because after ten years it suddenly has shown to be OP, I expect them to nerf my ability to walk to get it more in line with my ability to keep Quickness up on myself in any circumstance other than where I can cast Illusions.
I don’t get it. This poll is largely in favor of jacks. I love my Bluetooth buds so much more. No more with I have to deal with broken wires. No more do I have to deal with moving my hand and accidentally snagging the cord, forcing my phone to the floor. No more do I have to deal with the cord creating noise as it rubs against the zipper of my jacket…
if you don’t need noise isolation, I switched to bone induction headphones (which are awesome). I can wear buds, but they suck at the gym and are just annoying
When my headphones run out of battery, I switch to using the aux cord. The jack also allows me to play backing tracks through my guitar amp via the aux cord. I agree that wireless is superior for everyday use, but there are certain situations where I need the headphone jack.
Response is headphone jack is beyond just the use of the bluetooth buds. My work truck doesn’t have a bluetooth adapter, a $2 cord takes care of the problem. My parents Subaru when I’m driving them around when they visit does have Bluetooth, but gets angry if you try to connect another phone, guess what? Same $2 cord in my truck allows me to connect in. When I’m working a 12 hour day, headset batteries don’t last that long, nor does my phone really. But I can hook up my phone to a battery pack, then have it plug into a speaker by aux, by god it just works.
Bluetooth is fantastic if you go to the same place every day, and every piece of equipment is yours and connected in and auto connects. But those of us that travel it’s nice to have a plugin that just works without playing the “Why is it not recognizing?” game.
Solved with a cigarette lighter powered Bluetooth adapter that’s small enough to pack around. Or you can get aux ones too.
I used to do a ton of travelling too. I haven’t used that jack on my phone in over 10 years.
Even at that, if you’re plugging in a cord to your phone what’s wrong with an adapter? Basically the same thing. Additionally I think you can get ones that allow you to use aux and charge at the same time
I recently switched from Voyager to Avelon. Voyager is great and I’m keeping it because it’s always been so reliable, but I just really like Avelon. It has a nice explore tab for finding new communities, and it’s SwiftUI, so it has that clean native iOS look to it. They’re very similar otherwise.
Only things I miss in Avelon at this point are more sorting options for Home feed and a not full black dark mode. Voyager solves both of those for me so that’s where I’ve mostly been.
For me, it runs faster and smoother/more consistantly than the native Android app. I’ve not actually used the iOS one. Also, the updates come in faster.
I’m not suggesting that you ditch your Android tablet for an iPad. Just want to say that Memmy for iPad is fantastically designed, since you mentioned it on iPhone. I use it on both and web on my Mac.
You should give eternity a try. It is using the infinity UI which worked pretty well on my tablet. You have to add a custom repository to f-droid or use obtainium to install it
Looks like it’s already on the Play store. I already have Infinity. I see now that Eternity is a fork of Infinity. The Play store listing of Eternity opens my Infinity app when I tap the Open button in Eternity’s store listing, since Install is not an option for me. I wonder if the app would be different from F-droid…,
It’s tabletty UI is pretty good. Maybe I’ll give it a shot for a while. I do notice right off that tapping many of the links in posts give me errors though.
Not just FF though. I have a few installed via Vivaldi. I imagine other browsers can too right? Not sure why FF specifically gets mentioned regarding this.
I’m using the standard UI on web and Jerboa on mobile, but I’m going to try alternate web UIs like Photon and Alexandrite and find a good one that also works as a PWA so I can use the same client both on my computer and on my phone. I’d much prefer to use the same client across computer, tablet and phone.
My filter for app choice is support for list view. Fortunately there are multiple options: Sync and Connect have list views that work for me. I am curious about other list-view clients that I haven’t tried.
Pretty happy with voyager, it’s a pretty solid choice despite being styled entirely for iOS. I’ll probably look into a more Android designed / focused app going forward.
Memmy has been my favorite, although I wish it would go back to having updates. I understand they’re taking a break though and I just need to be patient
My only problem with lemmy is the lack of a client. Right now, for me, memmy and voyager are the least worst, but they’re pretty bad.
I’m not even asking for an Apollo out of the gate. I’d settle for an Alien Blue. And I have no problem paying for it, either. I was an Apollo ne plus ultra user, or whatever it was called.
From an information architecture perspective, it really seems like reddit and lemmy might be close enough that a middle layer could be written that would make it easier to port user-facing apps from one api to the other. There’s obviously be some differences, but if feasible it might accelerate development of multiple client options at once.
For the record, I’ve tried memmy, voyager, mlem, lemmios, liftoff, and I am presently going to try bean. That’s approximately the order of how useable I’ve found them, but they each have their own annoyances. I don’t own an android device, but I hope the options are better over there.
In any case, I became a heavy reddit user only after Alien Blue came out. I became a very heavy user after Apollo came out. I left reddit the day external clients became unavailable.
I think lemmy has enormous potential, but the UX needs to be made easier if we’re to really make a dent in reddit usership and get the level of posts, comments, and active communities they have there.
I also suspect that the backend is going to need a better approach for handling the negative consequences of a large influx of users. I’m not talking about load - I’m talking about community management. Back in the day (by which I mean the early 90s) there was an email blacklist. Admins of important nodes in the email distribution network had a shared list of domains that had unsecured servers, and would update it based on where they saw the (then relatively recent phenomenon of) spam coming from.
I’m really interested in how the information flow network of the fediverse evolves, if it continues to grow. Are we going to find a network with community structure, with clumps of mutually federated instances that have few if any connections between them? If so, clients will have to have solid account creation and management, and the admin tools will need to be sophisticated.
Yes, try Avelon OP! It’s really good. The UI is so smooth. Scrolling. And it has the ability to hide bars on scroll. It seems I’m the only one who cares about this feature haha but to me it makes content look much better without the navigation bars constantly being on display.
I’m using Memmy too, although the app sometimes repeat post reply 5 times and I had to delete the other 4. I still use Memmy anyway and don’t mind waiting till this gets fixed.

Yeah I really liked Memmy. The lack of updates wouldn’t bother me except there are a couple annoying bugs still. Also when I click on a community it opens in my browser. I’ve tested a bunch to find one that has everything I want. I’ve also settled on Avelon. The only thing it doesn’t have is multiple icon options and that’s not an important factor at all.
