It is. Completely different guy, completely different superconductor.

ZickZack,

It's a different paper (e.g. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-022-05294-9) from a different researcher (specifically Ranga Dias). This is not connected to the recent non-peer reviewed https://arxiv.org/abs/2307.12008

elscallr,

That's good to hear. I'm still suspicious of anything that sounds like room temperature superconductivity but it's nice to know the jury's still out and there's maybe hope.

Currently utilizing it in washington state. One of the first. Here's the biggest part: you need to spend one hour everyday doing this. It's basically meditation because you can't have anything interrupt you or do something else. You can split that into two thirty minutes sessions but fuck as a single father Its been impossible to find the time.

Bipta,

You can't even read during treatment? The article doesn't suggest it's meditation-like but I know it surely doesn't cover everything.

Hellsadvocate, (edited )
@Hellsadvocate@kbin.social avatar

You can but you're told not to because you have to focus on the music and the sensation of the electric tingles on your tongue. So no I think it would be hard to read during it. It requires full mindfulness to get the best gain. Additionally, you cannot listen to it before bed, or in bed since it might put you to sleep. It's very soothing. But basically, it's an hour of meditation daily.

jerkface, to science in Human Monogamy Has Deep Roots
@jerkface@lemmy.ca avatar

Humans are not monogamous. A monogamous species would not feel sexual attraction and desire for people who are not their mate or a potential mate. The mere fact that we want to fuck everyone is proof, and insisting that humans monogamous despite the available data showing someone has other partners in a huge portion of all long term relationships is a form of psychological denial.

Human “monogamy” is a common social convention, not a biological feature of humanity. DUH.

KBTR1066,
@KBTR1066@kbin.social avatar

God forbid you should read the paper and discuss the evidence rather than spouting your psycho-babble bullshit.

jerkface,
@jerkface@lemmy.ca avatar

It’s not a paper, it’s a fluffy article in a pop magazine.

I read a lot of it and it wasn’t very interesting. However, the very fucking first thing it tells us is that there are many people on Earth right now WHO DO NOT PRACTICE MONOGAMY. Did YOU read that part?

Y’know why it says that? Because humans are not monogamous! Not in the sense that we mean when talking about other animals. We can choose to have monogamous relationships (though many of them fail even when they want to for reasons those people largely do not even understand) but that doesn’t make us a monogamous species.

I don’t know why you are pissed off at me, but I hope you are having fun doing it.

assbutt, (edited )
@assbutt@kbin.social avatar

I don’t know why you are pissed off at me

Probably because you came into a science forum, made some asinine claim with zero supporting evidence, and now that you've been challenged, you're acting like a victim. Without evidence there is no argument, no discussion, no anything. Evidence is the only truth that we have. If you do not have evidence, your claim is inherently bullshit. It's not even worth discussing until you have some factual basis upon which to build that discussion.

"Some humans aren't monogamous, therefore humans are not monogamous." isn't good enough. That doesn't even make sense, I can't believe you fuckin' said that.

You made the claim, you carry the burden of proof. Instead of acting like a fucking child, you could have been looking for papers that support your argument. I just glanced at Google Scholar for all of 3 minutes and scrolled through no less than 5 pages of papers on the topic of human monogamy. What's your excuse? Go find some proof, or shut the fuck up.

TheDudeAbiding,
@TheDudeAbiding@kbin.social avatar

data showing someone has other partners in a huge portion of all long term relationships

That's called cheating. Is that your excuse when you get caught? 'I can't help it, it's just my nature!'

psychological denial

Funny coming from someone who felt compelled to write this dumbshit comment on an anonymous forum justifying their shitty behavior.

The mere fact that we want to fuck everyone is proof

I really like pizza. I want to eat more pizza than is healthy. That is my nature. Fortunately I happen to be a human; humans possess higher cognitive abilities than animals, so they can employ logic rather than defaulting to natural instinct. Animalistic urges are not justification for being a piece of shit human being.

Sushi,

I think though, that OP here is arguing that monogamy is more a product of society and not biological drive. He uses the example that many humans cheat (and as disgusting as that sounds to YOU, it's ALSO a social construct because there are other cultures which are not monogamous). So it doesn't matter what your personal opinion of the matter is, nobody here is arguing that breaking the social code you've agreed to is morally good.

TheDudeAbiding,
@TheDudeAbiding@kbin.social avatar

That's a cool straw man, but I didn't make the argument that you're arguing against. My comment doesn't make any claims or state any "facts" about human nature beyond the self-evident. I don't make claims without supporting evidence, that's kinda the point.

jerkface,
@jerkface@lemmy.ca avatar

You are clearly upset about this and taking it all very personally. I’m sorry I upset you, wasn’t my intention at all. I’ll just say that there are common forms of nonmonogamous relationships where everyone is consenting. You probably even know people practicing them and (apparently) don’t know it.

I’ll also mention that you are projecting a lot of shit on top of me, and that that is very rude. None of the things you are so certain you know about me and apparently hate me for are things you actually know happened, but you’re real mad at me for them anyway. Please get a grip on yourself before you actually hurt someone.

TheDudeAbiding,
@TheDudeAbiding@kbin.social avatar

I genuinely could not give less of a fuck about this emotional outburst. The only thing that matters, the only thing that carries any weight at all is evidence. Do you have evidence to back up your claim, or are you making shit up because you want it to be true?

This is a place for scientific discussion, not guessing and pushing agendas. If you have legitimate data and research supporting your claim, I will be happy to discuss it with you. Do you have fact-based argument to put forth, or are you just going to sit there with your fingers in your ears yelling at me?

Here we go…

Is this gonna be another bunch of morons blaming pet owners and their pet cats instead of the feral colonies?

It’s a stupid, pointless argument.

Only two ways to deal with this, catch-spay-release, or catch-kill.

Nature has a tough time restoring balance because cats can more easily live in developed areas, where their natural predators cannot.

I much prefer Catch-spay-release, but it costs money. So I urge everyone to support their local organizations that use humane methods to control the feral populations.

Edit: Like I said, morons. Y’all just want to pick a fight and feel superior instead of actually addressing the real problem.

Bob Barker is turning over on his grave.

Squizzy,

Pet owmers absolutely do damage too, let’s not pretend they are blameless here.

asdfasdfasdf,

Where do you think feral colonies originate?

Also, I can blame both. Owners need to keep cats indoors, not just for the environment but for the cat’s own health and safety.

atro_city,

But but but... they're so cute!

Cat owners

Kecessa,

Domestic cats are descendants of a specie that was native to the fertile crescent so unless you think that feral colonies appeared by magic then yes, cat owners are 100% the people that should be blamed.

Kbin_space_program,

Let's also ignore that glysophate based pesticides are known to fuck up the ecosystem and make things housecats prey on weaker and easier to catch.

We built a good size catio in my backyard for just a few hundred bucks with 2x4s, chicken wire, screws, staple gun, and brackets. Kitties LOVE it! It's big enough for a kiddie pool pond and a few people to sit, cat stuff, and litter boxes. It had to be done after losing cats and after my cats killed 2 rabbits and many lizards, kangaroo rats, etc. I'm sure my local wildlife is relieved and my cats still get to explore outside a bit!
